This weekend was so hard. It wasn't as if I was hungry but more bored and wanted to eat. It drove me crazy I had to go to sleep early to help me. (I DIDN'T CHEAT) Last night I dreamed I was shopping and eating corn pop, chips, cookies while i was walking through the isles. I woke up wanting to eat and still feel hungry.

I still have the urge to eat!

Hi Barbie,
Breaking the habit of eating is hard. I'm only on the diet 6.5 weeks but when I first started I would read the posts just to pass time and give me ideas about what to cook for myself. It made me realize how much I use to pick on cookies, chips etc. I had the eating dreams- good old Oreo's :).
Remember this diet is not forever.
Goodluck

Stay strong Barbie, and congrats to you for not cheating! I've only been on the diet for about 5 weeks, but it does get a little easier. Being on this diet has made me realize that I used to just eat when I was bored as well. Eating was really like a hobby of mine, and at first I almost didn't know what to do with my time! But after a while I began to break the "habit" of boredom eating, and feels more natural now to not snack while I'm watching tv, on the computer, etc. I mean, whenever I see a damn Taco Bell commercial, I still want some frickin' nachos! But as long as it's not in front of my face, I don't really think about it.

Badcaps - you are SO RIGHT! Food has been a hobby. I would think about it when I wasn't eating it; that next meal or what I'd serve at some future dinner party. Needless to say, I enjoy cooking and feeding people. But when other people weren't around I'd cook way too much and eat it. I'm surprised at how little it actually takes to satisfy my appetite... I have been feeding something else instead of hunger.

Key, you hit it on the head for me too. I'd just eat, munch, always have something and NEVER thought about HUNGER! I was never HUNGRY so I did experience those things when I started this diet because it was a mental and physical and emotional change all at the same time.

NOW, I don't think about food all the time and I'm NOT hungry and have stopped dreaming about food, etc. Hang on, you are changing habits and OLD HABITS DIE HARD!

I had a similar issue - only for me, I didn't dream about food - I craved it. well, I thought I was craving it but I was determined to stick to the diet so whenever the cravings would happen, I would drink water then get up and walk away from my desk. If that didn't fix it or if the craving was particularly strong I'd pop a piece of SF peppermint gum. It amazed me how that would cure my craving EVERYTIME. I finally realized, it wasn't food i was craving but an activity or the act of chewing (sad, I know). That saved me many times.

So far I haven't had a single dream of deviating or eating. But I have started to feel hungry around 4 and 5 in the afternoons. It could be that I'm on autumn break and out of work routine. So, I make sure that I have my bottle of water with me or a piece of gum to chew on.

Barbie, this period should pass and it will be history soon!

Hi Barbie,
I haven't looked at the forum for a long time. Should have been all along. Glad to be reminded that everyone deals with the same issues at one time or another. I'm into my
5th week. I just realized in the last couple days that I have quit thinking so much about my next meal. I would go to sleep thinking about meal planning and weight loss, and wake up thinking the same. It was like I was obsessed with food. It has finally become part of my life style. Someone mentioned taking their food to a restuarant. Really? I went to dinner with family on Easter. I drank iced tea while they feasted, then ate my dinner later. I was very proud of myself! They even had chocolate desserts. Oh my! I do have a luncheon to attend this week, paid for in advance. (Women's club monthly meeting.) I'm going to call the club manager and ask if she will prepare my allowance on the side. And take my scales to weigh out the green salad that is always offered. Thanks, everyone, for such wonderful support.

I routinely take my food along to restaurants. I have never been received with anything other than curiousity and when I explain my diet and my success the waitperson is extremely helpful and ready to get me whatever I need. I ALWAYS make sure I order a diet soda so I don't feel like a total leech and my hubby is usually along and he orders off the menu. I have become a very cheap date!!! LOL
