I know that you need a min. of 5 hrs. between meals. I'm curious as to the why? My husband asked me this question and I didn't know. I've been getting up at 5:30 am to get my breakfast in the required timeframe. I'm a teacher and have a scheduled lunch that can't be moved.

Also...Do you need to eat all of your fruit at one time? What I mean is I know that you get 3 fruits, but could I split my apple in half and each some lunch and then eat the other half later. So I would eat 3 fruits a day but over 4 different times.

Hi Amylynn

The reasons for the 5 hours difference is that proteins are not get mixed. As you noticed, each meal has multiple choices of proteins and by keeping the 5 hours gap, they are not mixed.

Fruit and crackers are optional. If your diet has 3 fruits on it, it means that you may eat up to three fruits a day. You may eat these with your meals or in between meals, but no more than one fruit at a time. You can also split your apple the way you described.

Hope this helped. Please read through the forum as it already has lots of useful information, replies and recipes.

Thank you for the information. Sorry to show my ignorance...but what does mixing proteins do to your weight loss?

Hi Amylynn

Seperating proteins is one of rules of this diet. Your program is made of three meals which contains multiple meal choices. Each of those with different proteins. You can eat the meals in any order you want 1-2-3, 3-2-1, 1-3-2, etc. However, you need to keep a minimum of 5 hours between the meals.

Seperation of the proteins is one of rules. These rules were the results of Dr Cohen's research and work, as explained on the website.

Thanks...I know that it was one of the rules which I have been following. I was just curious about the "science" behind it. I just think it is easier to follow the rules when you know the benefit behind them.... Like drinking the water helps flush away all the toxins in the body. I don't mind drinking and running to the bathroom when I think of it in terms of how it is benefiting me.

Hi Amylynn! I completely agree that understanding the WHY behind the rules makes the diet much more easy to do!

Well done on figuring out a way to work with your scheduled lunch. I also had to do that (often up and eating by 5 am!!), but I found that I also had to GO TO BED EARLIER to get enough sleep.

I found out that after I lost about 70 of my 112 pounds that my weight loss SLOWED DOWN MEASURABLY when I didn't get enough sleep...so make sure you allow yourself at least 8 hours of real sleep every night on worknights!

VERY WELL DONE and KEEP GOING! Believe me, it's ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT to feel great and look great and MOST ESPECIALLY TO BE HEALTHY!:applause:
