Hi dee and welcome !!!!!!

All squash types must be cooked first, and then you need to scoop out the content and weigh the quantity you are going to eat.

SQUASH

Yellow / Crookneck Squash (with long curved neck)

Yellow Spaghetti Squash (watermelon shaped)

Hubbard Squash

(cook in shell, then scoop out content and weigh)

Following are the photos of the squash team: From top left - Crooknecks, spaghetti, hubbard, cooked spaghetti, spaghetti with chives, and roasted hubbard.

I looked up Hubbard Squash and I wonder if Acorn Squash can be used in place of Hubbard Squash. After all, it is in the same family and it looks very similar. Can anyone help me with this?

No...acorn squash is NOT allowed. I already checked that one out a few months ago! Nice try, though! And, for the record, pumpkin is not allowed either!

Thanks for your answer. My consultant told me the same thing. Bummer. I don't even think we can have hubbard squash here.

I only found hubbard for a short time in the winter months, it is a winter squash. I can still find spaghetti squash. If you have not tried it, give it a try. It is very versatile and mild in flavor. I use it with shrimp and garlic, and also as a base for like spahgetti dishes, and mix you own sauce from the veggie allowance.

{hi} there Everyone

I thought I’d copy in Secretary’s post from the VEGETABLE IDEAS re: which squash may be eaten…

Due to the date of the post, it keeps moving itself to the top of the thread… nice pictures, nevertheless..

Hope this helps anyone who is still not sure...

Hi Jim,
Welcome to my world! In NZ we don't get it either, but it can be found in those organic farmer's markets. I missed the season in NZ they only come in Jan/Feb (end of summer). So, you might be lucky if you look for them in the UK.

Jim,

When in season Waitrose sell the spaghetti squash. If you have one near you it might be worth calling them to ask if they stock it.
