4MAMA - my guide book only says "small" mango. I don't eat mango, so I don't know how much that is. But if you can have 160g of kiwi and 180g melon, I don't see why you couldn't have that much mango.

Email your consultant.

I know the medium apple is 240g or something like that. Its in the FAQ food thread.

Let us know what they say!

{hi} there 4MAMA

:thinking: If you have two much fruit it will show up in your blood test results as a deviation and having too much fruit will slow your progress down and I don't want that to happen {noway}

For this reason I recommend that you please limit your mango to 100 – 120 grams per fruit portion (excluding pip and peel)...

All the best with your weight loss {wave}

{hi} there 4MAMA

NO!!! 100 – 120 grams is for MANGO only - not your other fruit.

Other fruit don’t need to be weighed – simply select a medium size fruit ie: apple etc.

Only weigh the ones where Dr Cohen says to weigh. The mango weight is just to make sure that you don’t have too much.

About your veggies:

Remember, you have a personal limit from Dr Cohen for your veggies with each meal ie:

Meal 1
1 egg and 85 grams of veggies

Veggies are not free – you only have the amount of veggies next to the protein you are having… does that make sense?

4MAMA - your talk of mango made me take a chance and buy a mango today.

For some reason I had decided that I didn't like mango - I don't know why. I took a nibble this afternoon and it tastes pretty good.

Thanks 4MAMA!

Do you all know how to cut a mango??? Start with a fully ripe mango...Stand it on end with the stem end facing up....with a sharp knife make a vertical cut about an inch right of and then left of the center going pretty much straight down...moving outwards to go around the pit. You'll have 2 nice pieces of mango. Then you can turn the fruit and trim the fruit from the pit on the other two sides, too....these will be much smaller in size.
To remove the mango from the skin hold the oval piece of fruit, skin side down, in the palm of your hand. With a sharp knife make slices into the fruit, but don't go all the way through the skin. (you can then turn the fruit 90 degrees and slice again for cubes). THEN....turn the fruit "inside out", basically and then cut the slices (or cubes) away from the skin.....
There are videos of this process online.....just Google "how to cut a mango"! It's actually kind of fun. A couple of weeks ago I had a lunch at our house for a few friends of mine and I served mango slices as a garnish with a chicken salad. My friends didn't know how to cut a mango so I demonstrated for them...they were impressed!!! :)
See...not only are we losing weight, but we learn SO much along the way, too!!!

ohh! im so happy for you! mango IS delicious! i love apples, too but sometimes switching it up a bit is fun, too. i made talapia the other day and it was terrific. just spray a baking sheet wuth o/oil spray, layer with fish, sprinkle herbal seasoning (try something with a little kick to it) then bake covered with foil in 350, for 20 minutes or until internal temp reaches 160. it was so delicious and filling and tastes great cold the next day over spinach.
i've never cooked this way for myself-ever! i just wish they would list the conversion weights for cooked protein. trying to weigh everything is a real pain, and sometimes i find myself wasting food just trying to get it perfect on the scale. oh well, it's working though. im feeling in control for the first time in a very LONG time!!!!

so happy for you, too Suzanne! we WILL do this, what do we have to lose BUT WEIGHT!!!

thank you Phyllis! you are an unbelievable source of knowledge!! i cant wait to try cutting a mango on my own. Trader Joes sells it sliced, but this seems more economical.

thanks again for all of your input and advice.

have a blessed day!

{hi} there Phyllis

Thank you for that wonderful detailed description…

To add a picture in the minds of our Diet Buddies, when you turn the fruit inside out, it looks like this:

That Tilapia sounds good 4MAMA - I had Tilapia the other day. I took a suggestion from the fish recipes section and made my own salsa with onion, green pepper, tomato and cilantro. Put it on the Tilapia and baked it. Mmmmmm!

I'll have to try it wrapped in foil.

I confess I'm getting a little tired of cooking for myself. My husband usually does all the cooking. Last night I was pretty peeved when he asked me to make (a very easy) baked Rigatoni because he "didn't know how." Whatever. It stinks to make food you can't have. I groused about how unfair it was. Hopefully he took notes. I'm not making it again until I can have some.

This week 2 has been a challenge.

i am with you... my husband and i use to always share a glass of wine or two with or after dinner, and it's been getting increasingly harder to watch him relax with out me!!! i asked him if he wouldn't mind giving up the vino at home until we can celebrate together. he's agreed. only when we go out is when i look the other way. My hub has the metabolism that one week free of carbs and he's down a size. unfair genes, I guess!!!

it's way too soon it seems for you to be around favorite foods you cant share with your family. just explain to your husband to bare with you for a little while longer until it really doesn't matter to you. "bare with me" seems to be my mantra these days.

keep up the challenging work. remember, you WILL do this. learn to live not on bread alone. keep your mind busy, get out of the kitchen. start delegating meal responsibilities, etc. tell yourself, "why waste the best years of your life, unfit?" you're just as deserving as the next person!" soul search for what's "really" causing you to reach for food, and NOT a higher power? (sugar/bad carbs are destructive,at least for my blood!), WE WILL DO IT!!!!

Thanks again for your support!

4Mama - I worry the closer I get to being really trim for the first time in 20 years, my loving husband will begin to sabotage my diet. He's a tad insecure.

Mr. Ed and Bigpun - my HEROES!!

Hubby is a great guy...really! When he met me I was 148 and he thought I was "it." Most of our marriage, however, I've been overweight.

It will be a big adjustment for both of us when I drop this weight once and for all. I'm not sure I'll know how to act, so I can understand that it means a big change for him, too.

I look forward to the change and he'll learn I'm not going anywhere.

Phyllis, you mentioned a chicken salad. Any recipe you can share?
That would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I made it "normal" for my friends...with a dressing of half Ranch dressing and half Miracle Whip. The salad had cooked chicken breast cut in bite-size cubes, grapes cut in half lengthwise, chopped celery, chopped onion. Then you put it on a lettuce leaf and top it with a sprinkling of pecans.
I made an adjusted version for me.....actually cheated just a little and added about 2 tsp. of Miracle Whip to my little bit of salad.
I did not make my friends eat 1PD chicken salad....tee hee. HOWEVER, one of them today gave me a gift....a mango cutter!! AND....she wants to go on 1PD!!! YEA!

I have never tried a plain mango....had it in salsa, jelly, etc, but never just cut, peel and eat and I LOVE THEM!!! Can't wait to try them in smoothies this summer (right now it's 30 degrees and I'm freezing!). Thanks for all the tips!!!

Way to go Phyllis... not many people know the EASY way to cut a mango!! I love mango. Back home in Northern Oz we use to have huge mango trees in our back yard... I die every time I have to pay for one now but everyone needs a vice... mine is tropical fruit.

For those of you that have a local Trader Joes store, they carry in their frozen food section precut mango. It is delicious and easy to pop into the blender if you want to use your fruit portion and a bit of Sprite Zero to make a smoothie/sorbet.

Awesome! Thank you for responding, too! I frequent TJ's often and never thought to buy frozen mango. I always opt for the pre-sliced version. Im definitely going to make a mango sorbet!!

best wishes for success!
