View Full Version : I miss "full"

I miss "FULL" Is that pathetic? I can't help it. It's only day 11 for me so I'd like to know...does it ever go away? I haven't strayed from the diet at all nor do I want to but when I go out on the lunch hour to run an errand and all around me is food food food. I don't want the food but I miss the feeling of being full. The meals are fine. I'm just not hungry after I eat them but I'm in no way full. I'm fine on my intervals but by the start of the 4th hour I find I'm still starving. I drink a lot of water at that point to try to curb it but it doesn't always help. I don't know if it's psychological or not. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it go away? Do I get more used to the 5 hour intervals? I save my crackers and fruit for in between. Do I ever get to the point where these meals satisfy rather than just curb my "starving"? Does that come with the weight loss? I've been very good. I've had many opportunities to be bad but I just don't want to. I know this can work for me and I"m determined to make it work and to stick to it (key!) I just wanted to know if anyone else had these feelings and if they subside after a while. thanks

Hi, flwrgrlie!
To answer your question, no, I don't have that problem. I feel pleasantly satisfied at the end of each meal and appropriately hungry by the time the next one rolls around - but I should explain that in my line of work, we have meal breaks at six hour intervals, so the diet actually lets me eat more closely-spaced meals than I am used to! :)
I would think that this will pass for you as you get deeper into the dieting weeks - maybe someone else can confirm that? In the meantime, congratulations on sticking to the plan despite feelings of starvation!!! :flower:

Hi there Flwrgrlie!
YES!!!! I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND!
I certainly DID have those "need to feel full NOW" cravings; water was always what I did first (you're doing that EXACTLY RIGHT!!)
If I wanted something more, I'd have a cup of coffee or tea (earl grey or black). Coffee seemed to handle it the quickest for me, especially freshly ground, freshly brewed coffee -- just going through the motions of grinding and brewing helped, and I ALWAYS treated a fresh cup of coffee as an EVENT!
(My fruit and crackers continue to be an event -- every single bite of every single one!)
Days 11-20 were those where I discovered the "weight" vs "volume" thing when I weighed my portions...just because I LIKED tomatoes didn't mean that having a slice of tomato as part of my lunchtime veg was SMART -- it did not provide enough VOLUME to fill me up as it took up up so much of my veg portion and yet was not a lot of food!
You could try something lighter (in volume) to fulfill your veg requirement -- like a big baby spinach salad with a bit of vinegar. My favorite "NEVER HUNGRY" lunch was 90g of fresh baby spinach with 100 g of broiled lean steak sliced up on it, topped with a spritz of vinegar. I would vary the HERBS & seasonings on the steak, but once you see how much food 90g of baby spinach actually IS, you'll probably think that you'll never be hungry again...
I continue eat a salad like that almost every single day for lunch...even after 6 months OFF of the diet. It fills me up completely!
I will say that chicken and turkey do NOT fill me up as well as beef does (that continues to be true for me now). Again, remember I can't eat fish or dairy because of allergy problems, so yes, I eat a LOT of lean steak. I'm sure every single body is different. Mine likes beef.
That said, though, there are hundreds of ways to make a steak!
SO, yes, I did indeed have these feelings, and yes, absolutely you SHOULD DRINK WATER FIRST! Other choices are or a diet soda, coffee or tea if you'd like when you get them. Another (and my "go to" choice): is experimenting with foods with greater volumes to fill your food weight requirements can give you MORE to eat if you'd like :-)
Keep it up! You're doing great!

hey, flwrgrlie!!!!
i'm with u a 1000%, sista!
everything u say applies 2 me, 2!!!
and as i'm through with my 4th week on tuesday, i get a little frustrated, as i am still hungry...
and "funny" hahaha :eyebrow: enough, i havent been eating that very much b4 diet 2 justify that state of mine.
what came 2 mind just 2 hours ago is that shasha allowed brans and thaz what i'm gonna take next! 4 1) 2 get my digestion back on track and 2ndly) 2 finally feel "full" and less starving every once in a while!!
mayb we should try this one!?
shasha, r u here?!?!?!?

flwrglie, r u also on the :clover: vegetarian version? i think i experience that, cause exept 4 fish (which i force myself 2 eat) and egg (only once a day allowed) nothing fills me up, really...
the cheese and tofu (esp. in those portions) r nor really able 2 quite fill the tummy!
but if u eat meat, i agree 2 what gail says: rather take beef! :cow:
and a big bravo :clapping: 2 b determined whatever stumbling blocks u come across!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who responded. You all gave me really great tips and just knowing other people are going through this same thing helps a lot. Guess what?!? Today is day 12 for me and today for the first time in almost 11 years I need a belt!!! OH MY GOSH!!! I could not believe it! I don't feel like I'm much thinner but I must be losing because my pants keep sliding down. They aren't falling off but they are not skin tight anymore and are sliding down my hips! (I have hips?!?) It makes any feeling of missing full or being a little hungry worth it!
Gailstout - I read your tip on the spinach a few days ago and put it on my grocery list. I think it's a really great idea! I'll try the steak tip, too. I've been sticking to mostly chicken but I'll definetly try the steak more often.
Cyberella - So glad to know you are feeling it too. Together, we will get through this!! I'll definetly look into the bran thing. Good tip. I'll do a search for it.
Mrs Peel - Thanks for the support. I've been following your story and it sounds like you're doing great!
Thank you all for your support. This forum has gotten me through my tough times and is really awesome! YOU ALL ROCK!:rolling2:{grouphug1}
Hey, who put the smiley eating ice cream in there?!?

and another thing that amazed me is that my request was taken care of in only one day!! :flying:

{hi} Everyone
Special :bighug: to the hungry ones... who are hold on tight!!!
Well done!!!
Digetive bran is the outside fibre of wheat... it helps to keep you feeling full and it keeps you regular.
I love the baby spinach tip... and the meat is a great idea.
For now, :flower:grlie please don't eat the yogurt or cheese meals as these are the least filling meals.
My recommendation would be to make soup... please see the Recipe section for Sooooups...
By having warm food with added hot liquid you are bound to feel fuller for longer...
Cyberella, I'm never far away, but sometimes I also need to do my :laundry:

Shasa - What form of bran is digestive bran? I've never heard of it. Is it a cracker or a powder? Any suggestions on what to do with it?

{hi} Everyone
Digestive bran is only the outside fibre (or husks) of wheat... it helps to keep you feeling full and it keeps you regular. (Please do not confuse this with oat bran which is NOT ALLOWED.)
You can use one or two teaspoons per day.
The fibre can be mixed into scrambled egg, or goes well in soup especially if you are going to blend the soup. {pot}
Some people put it into yogurt with a bit of coffee powder and some sweetener.
:reading: It is recommended that you increase your water intake a bit ie: an extra glass or so when you are adding extra fibre into your diet.

hi, shasha..
we r still the only ones online...:party1:
about the bran- only with a meal? or can i have it inbetween with my cracker?
2 what gail posted long ago in this thread i had discovered that oyster mushrooms and lamb's lettuce :love6: (field lettuce) have waaaay more volume than their more common "colleagues"- ;)
try it out! i even use lambs lettuce instead of spinach sometimes-
it keeps the "body" also by heating it up ie in an omelette.
i like that! :clover:

{hi} Cyberella
I'm worried that you may have the wrong thing there.
Digestive bran - as said earlier is only the fibre. It is very dry and tasteless little flakes. Nothing that you could make a porridge with - please note this is not oat bran. I don't see how you could eat this between meals with a cracker...
Are we talking about the same stuff ie: light brown in colour? Dry little flakes?
PS: thanks for the tip on lambs lettuce - I don't believe I have heard of it before...

 Make sure that the "language barrier" isn't going on here...sometimes I'd get information on foods about which I'd never heard...but were simply Australian or South African English vs. American English i.e. "biscuit" vs "cookie" or "pizza" vs "pitza" --

{hi} there Cyberella
Below is what digestive / wheat bran looks like...
As you can see, it is just tiny little fibres.
Hope this helps?

hi, shasha-sweetie! :love7:
thank u 4 the picture but no worries- we used 2 have those in our home since i was a child!!
i just wanted 2 know how often and how much i could take, as i dont seem 2 have any digestion..
and "yes" u could take it inbetween b4 or after the cracker or on iz own- put it on a spoon, b carefull so they dont "fly off", put in mouth and drink a glass of water 2 flush it down--
hated it, but my mom had 2 do something if one of the six kiz was constipated... yak!

lambs lettuce r little "bunches" of dark green leaves in the shape of tiny spoons- mayb i can manage 2 take a pic and transfer it 2 my laptop (consuls said iz ok 2 use it).
oh, btw: if i may ask shasha and gail: r u from s.a., australia or the us? - just out of interest..

{hi} there Cyberella
Just for info, please read this: always remember that bowel movement twice a week is sufficient while you are on the Eating Plan ~ this is because you have reduced your intake (particularly starch). Please do not assume that a change in bowel movement indicates constipation.
You may take a fibre supplement such as Duphalac, Linseed or Psyllium Husks while being on the program.
You may also take up to 2 tablespoons of digestive bran every day. But it would be too horrible to think of to have it just like that!!!
I suggest you add it into your meals ie: yogurt, coffee, sweetener + bran is fine. So is working it into your egg dishes ie: scrambled egg, or you can put a teaspoon into the hash brown mix. If you make the chicken soup recipe, it totally disappears when blending... You can also use it in mushroom sauce...
So please don't have it just like that, with water - the very thought of it makes me want to choke!
:gurney:
I recommend that you start by adding just one teaspoon and then, remember that you need to increase your WATER intake by a couple of glasses per day... :bighug:
