I know this has been talked about and talked about...however, I do have some concerns. Before Cohen, I had a trainer 3 days a week and did cardio for 45 minutes up to 6 days a week. It took me 3 months to lose 6 pounds on a low calorie diet included. BLAH!:weights2:
Now that I am on plan, I am just working out with the trainer 2 days a week(she has made it less strenuous as I told her about the diet) and doing light cardio(i.e.walking, instead of elliptical and running) 3 days a week for 30 minutes.
Here is my question; am I just slowing my weight loss?? I really would like to not lose all my muscle strength and cardiovascular endurance, but lose all the fat surrounding the leg muscles, arm and ab muscles. I also love to exercise; don't know a time when I wasn't. It seems that maybe the best idea is not to work out since everyone has such great success without it. My consultant says it is fine as long as I don't get hungry and they also said that if I feel dizzy or lightheaded one day, to eat an extra apple; which I needed yesterday!
Anyway, I am so sorry for the long post! Any feedback would be appreciated:party1:
Hi there Alabama,
I would take the advice of your consultant above all others. I have heard from other posts that if you have been exercising prior to Dr Cohen that is is fine to contine as long as it doesn't make you tired or hungry.
As for it slowing your weight loss, I am afraid I don't know. I have been advised not to exercise because I wasn't prior to Dr Cohen and I just recently started, also I am so close to goal now, that my consultant thought that it would slow down my progress (I think that has more to do with the fact that I haven't been exercising throughout Dr Cohen.)
I hope this is helpful, but trust your consultants advice.

Ala,
I exercised before, and only played tennis once a week during. I would burn btwn 600 and 800 calories playing and wipe myself out for days. I had very little energy for my family--four kids and a hubby. But it is individual. Try it, if you feel way too tired, wait for a while or don't do so much. My regret now is that the time that used to be devoted to exercise has been swalled up by other things.
blessings,
Mary

I think moderate exercise will not slow down your weight loss on the plan and will be safe and healthy. I am still recovering from back surgery so my typical workout is 30-45 min. on the elliptical 5-6 days a weeks and light strength training 3-4 days a week. Saturday I did my usual elliptical routine but after 36 minutes I got VERY light headed. I had to cut my workout short and go home to lay down. That has never happened to me before in the 20 or so years that I have been exercising regularly. Don't feel bad cutting your workout short or less often for now. It is temporary and will ensure your safety.

Thank you for all the feedback everyone! I have seriously cut back and over the weekends, instead of working out, I kind of lay around and don't do much. I feel SO lazy doing that! It's just not my typical weekend. I truly feel whiped out after working out 4 days a week, so maybe I need the rest. I will try not to feel guilty about it! That is very hard for me.
I feel like the days I workout I have more energy but then suffer on the others. Weird! Yesterday was tough. I was feeling very weak and wanted to eat SO bad...just to eat something, you know?? My roomie made potato soup and for some reason (don't even typically like that!), it was killing me not to eat it with a ton of ritz. I really almost cheated! I am so glad I didn't, but it makes me worried for the times I will be able to cheat. I pray for strength as this is hard! I am inspired by all you people who have succeeded and are still going strong after so long. Today marks just three weeks. I have not weighed, but will tomorrow at the doctor...I was discouraged yesterday and still felt huge, so I think that's maybe why I wanted to eat.:sadeyes: Today is better though. I can wear some pants that I have not been able to wear for a long time!
Anyway, just wanted to vent as most people don't understand this. And I also wanted to know if anyone would like to add what they do when they are feeling this way... I do like praying:praying: and saying Scriptures, and a lot of times I forget to do that when a temptation strikes. Anyone else had this problem of wanting to sabotage it all??
Thanks for reading all of this if you made it this far.

I totally forgot about this old trick till this weekend, but knitting... I learned how to right when I first started this diet... as I realized I snacked wanted to eat when I was bored. I got to a point where I didn't need to knit any more.. but since I was a crazy cheater last week and wanted to get back to 100% I started knitting again this weekend...
It helped a TON!
Today is better though. I can wear some pants that I have not been able to wear for a long time!
Thats worth not cheating.......Grats!!!!
And I actually started eliptical 3 days a week, but wondered if my body would still lose the weight as fast as it has. Not sure.

{hi} there Sweet Alabama
I really think that you need to listen to WHAT YOUR BODY IS SAYING because I think that you are for sure pushing yourself TOO HARD at this time.
Your Consultant gave you great advise – now you need to follow it! {cheerleader}

Yesterday was tough. I was feeling very weak and wanted to eat SO bad...just to eat something, you know?? …. I really almost cheated! I am so glad I didn't, but it makes me worried for the times I will be able to cheat.
The point is that you are getting too hungry!! and so, I recommend that you STOP exercising – maybe walk instead for the next week and see HOW YOU FEEL.
Remember the old saying: “Jack of all trades… Master of none…”
How about for now you focus on following your eating plan 100% correctly instead of trying to push your body TOO HARD and then ending up falling off the bus – which is NOT what you PAID to do.
For the next few days I recommend that you take a second vitamin each day at lunchtime – just to give you some extra ooommph, and again, PLEASE DO NOT EXERCISE right now, it’s not worth pushing yourself too hard when your body just cannot.
Rather focus and do one thing at a time WELL and so I recommend that you take the rest of your 12 weeks to focus on losing fat.
Hope the extra vitamin helps {wave}

Thank you so much everyone! Good idea on the knitting, AZ. That sounds really fun....and like Phyllis, a great way to make gifts and whatnot:)Maybe I could learn to do that or paint or something to stay busy WITHOUT always turning to exercise.
Sasha- you are the BEST! I appreciate your comments on the exercise....The first two or so weeks were amazing! I had tons of energy, not hungry, etc and was still walking/running and lifting weights. HOwever the last week and a half or so, I have been so lathargic by the end of the day that all I want to do is lay down and watch tv. I have a problem with tuning in to true hunger or boredom or other emotional issues. There was a point when I struggled with anorexia because I turned all that off! Just shut it down completely. anyway, I believe you are right about the exercise and I will cut back to walking next week. I feel better mentally when I do work out and feel it helps with energy.
yay! I hope to be on track as I have a wedding to travel to for a few days about one week from the finish. I don't know what I am going to do about that!!!??? :hypnotic:Then a little less than three weeks after I am supposed to finish, I will be traveling again for work:(

{hi} there Alabama
I hear what you are saying about exercising… but maybe your body is getting enough hard work on a cellular level simply by burning off fat and the added exercise is just too much so, for now, pleaes no more exercising and please + 1 vitamin at lunchtime, then, lets see how you feel after a few days of doing so.

I see that you are wanting to lose 42 pounds. How fast you lose this will depend on your own personal body – remember, you are unique and there is no way to say how fast you will lose the excess weight that you are hoping to lose. Remember, the 1st Personal Diet Program is a 12 week program – if you reach your goal within your first 12 weeks, great, simply request your Re-feeding Program when you are 5 pounds away from your goal weight, if you need more time, you may renew your program by a further 12 weeks.
{wave}
The most important thing is therefore to help your body to give you the best results it can and the only way to do this is by following your eating plan 100%. If you need to travel or go for a wedding you are welcome to use the travel tips below:
Please remember that your personal diet program is made out of the precise food items and weights you need to take. When travelling or eating out etc, the best would be to have a kitchen in which you can prepare your food just like at home. Unfortunately, this is not always practical and you may need to eat the available foods en-route. Therefore, a setback of your diet is unavoidable but you can try and minimize the setback by eating smart.
Try to find food items that are allowed on your diet (plain yogurt, hardboiled egg, vegetables, canned tuna and the likes). Eating these foods – even with no scale to weigh the foods – is better than eating a sandwich or a hamburger.
Eating out while you on a personal diet program where all your food intake is calculated carefully, might be a challenge. Some brave Diet Buddies take their kitchen scale with them to the restaurant and order just a green salad. Others go out but just drink coffee / water. Eating out while on the program will set your progress back and we strongly recommend trying and avoiding this. If you have to go, just order a small green salad with a low-fat dressing on the side. This will help in having a smaller setback.
Hopefully, by eating smart the setback will not be as bad - some Diet Buddies even report loosing weight while being away and following these guidelines, so here's wishing you much success on your weight loss, remember YOU CAN DO IT! {cheerleader}

Sasha-
Thank you, thank you!!! The encouragement keeps me going. I will try the walking next week and listening to my body! That's kinda hard to do since I have not been able to trust it, you know?:(
As far as the traveling comes, I will just have to cross that bridge when I get there. Thank the Lord the traveling season for work is not right now when I needed time to adjust to the diet and make MANY mistakes along the way! I have had to bring food on a trip before (I did the hcg diet..PLEASE nobody do it! that's why I am here and my thyroid is crazy messed up!) It was a hassle but totally worth it, since you really have NO idea what they are putting in your food when you go out. It is kinda gross to think about:munchies:
I LOVE to hear everyone's story. It's inspirational!
Anyways, thanks for all your help and I would love to hear your story sometime...how you got here? Where you are from? How you stay thin...etc??
Have a fantastic day:innocent4:
