{hi} there Mrs Peel...
We saw a movie last night (date night ) and I thought of you...
The movie was called The Bucket List...
Really nice - a bit sad in the end, but really nice. It's about 2 strangers who have to share a hospital room and then as they go through the hardships of treaments they become freinds. They are both diagnosed terminally ill and have 6 months to a year to live...
One day one of them starts off with a list he calls The Bucket List (things he would like to do before he kicks the bucket). This leads to the two of them having amaising adventures before the end comes...
It was really inspiring. I know everyone will act different in the face of challenges, but these guys were amazing, they chose to experience life to the full and enjoy the good.
Now, from our little talks I know you're not 21 anymore... more like 23 or 24 :flirt: but I was thinking how great it is that you are making your dream come true! To fit into your wedding dress again... to look good and feel GREAT...
I'm not saying you have a Bucket List, (please do not get me wrong) but to me the beautiful focus is on how you are making your dreams come true right here and right now.
It's really a nice move to watch this movie if you can... :)

Shasha - I'm sure some tears were shed, I'm such a sap when it comes to movies like that, but still like watching them. I'll have to look for it, my husband likes watching movies like that too - the more inspiring the better.
When I feel the "urge to splurge" so to speak or even just think about other foods, I get on here to read everyone's post and inspiring stories, etc. It really does help.

{hi} Inger
From what you say, I'm sure you & hubby will both enjoy this movie! Hubby and me were really touched and inspired...
It's an amazing concept to have a Bucket List... I think I should get one... Look at the date, it's already, February, 1st 2008... whatever happened to January?
The days go by so quickly, turning into weeks and months and before we know it, another year will be done...
I find I need a Bucket List or something similar to keep focus of what I actually want to achieve in life... each day brings it's own work and if you don't plan to make time for what is important to you it always seems to get squashed out of the way.
It's also good to have a list to look back and see which of your dreams your have already fulfilled... :clapping:
Hang in there... this is for a little while only - your slimming time is NOW... all the goodies will still be there to enjoy in moderation when you get to your goal weight and after doing the Refeeding Program...
The way time flies, it won't be long!!! {cheerleader}

Did anyone watch a movie this weekend???
MrsPeel
02-04-2008, 03:12 PM
. . . we are working our way through the A&E miniseries Horatio Hornblower, with Ioan Gruffudd. It was so well-made and the stories are thrilling - we are really enjoying it.
Not to mention, Season 2 of Torchwood just started on BBC America - :clapping:

Oooh, That sounds really nice - nothing like looking forward to your favourite programs... Did you ever see Navy NCIS? I really loved that!
Over the weekend, Hubby and I watched: National Treasure - book of secrets... quiet fascinating...
Did you see it? The way they made those desks was so special... everything coded with intrigue...
Next I want to watch 27 Dresses...
Please come share with us in LIFE BEYOND FOOD, if you have a bit of time... the girls really love your pearls of wisdom
Hope you're having a SUPER WONDERFUL DAY :bighug: Mrs Peel

I saw Alvin and the Chipmunks with the kids and I really enjoyed it. Alvin, who cared for the little chipmunks, made them go to bed at the right time and eat sensibly (well, sort of) while the bad guy gave them no rules and stuffed them with junk food and coffee (to keep them awake). The movie was great and everyone around us was munching buttery popcorn out of bucket size bags and drinking barrels of coke .. lol

Hello to all the dieters and graduates who like to go to the movies.
Standing in line to the concession stand, you look at what the theatre has to offer: giant tubs of buttery popcorn, barrel sized soda cups, candies galore (king sized, of course), oh yes, and let's not forget the nachos and hot-dogs! And they wonder why our nation is so fat.... I mean, ya, it's quite a sport watching the actors run and jump around while you stuff your face with butter and sugar … lol
As a veteran cohen dieter, I do care about what I eat and the smell of butter makes me … hmmmm … shall we say … uncomfortable.
In order to enjoy my movie I bring with me a bag of fat free popcorn that I popped at home and buy a bottle of water. Now ladies, there's nothing wrong with bringing your own popcorn. Just tell yourself that it's not about being cheap, it's because the theatre doesn't provide you with healthy choices! When the lights go out, whip out your bag and enjoy! Not only the movie but also the fact that you didn't just gain 10lbs like everyone else around you.
If you are still on the diet, you could also bring a Ry Krisp cracker (the new cracker added to the crackers page of the 1PD).

{hi} there Sammy & Wilma
I see on your little ticker that you've lost 92 pounds and have 3 to go... but you've completed your Refeeding so that means that you lost a total of 95 pounds??? ???? ?????? YEAAAAH HA!!! WWWWOOOOOWWW GIRL! That's something to be proud of!!! Tell us more - PLEASE!!!! :praying: PLEASE!!!!
You know what, a girl's gotto do what a girl's gotto do and I agree whole heartedly with you, I normally try to block my nose or chew gum... I'm afraid even of the smell of movie house popcorn... it's sooooo buttery, you may end up gaining weight through your nostrils!!! {rofl}
Taking your own fat free version is a 100% good idea! {goodjob} I really do not know why they do not do more to promote good health when obesity is affecting so many people... but, they don't care, it's all about making money to them... if they did care, they could at least offer the fat free version for people who do want it!!!
WILMA, you are so right... Joyce Meyer talks about MINDLESS EATING... the phenomenon where people just stuff it in without even thinking about it... popcorn is a typical example, but there are so many others... you notice how bad you are when you first go on diet - before that you would have popped the candy right in without even thinking twice... but now you need to choose to eat WISELY!
The movies are still great and Alvin was still my best one so far this year...

. . . MrPeel and I are going out tonight to see one of my favorite movies of all time, Cabaret, which is screening at the Arclight (wonderful cinemas here in L.A. which cater to film buffs).
I was obsessed with this movie in high school and would go see it every week!! :wacky:
To this day, I still love green nail polish.
Shasha
02-20-2008, 12:32 PM
{hi} there Mrs Peel and Mama
I sooo love chatting to you girls about Moooovies... I haven't seen Atonement and I haven't seen Cabaret (I know, I know...)
BUT, I have written them BOTH DOWN in my diary... Now I got more excuses to go out with my Hubby Honey!!!
I just mentioned the word movie and he's already looked and Atonement is showing... he loves movies so I guess we will be going... Great Hey! Thanks so much for that Mama !!! You are really good at organising dates! :clapping3:
{boing} Green Nail Polish??? Mrs Peel... {rofl} I just knew you were 21!!! (Even if only at heart!!)
I can just imagine my hubby's face if I ever tried wearing that!!! LOL! He had the shock of his life 3 years ago when my nails were really nice and long and I wore Fire Engin Red !!! ... poor man!!!
Anyhow, will you be dressing up a bit?? I do hope so... and maybe you can go for coffee just to chat afterwards...
And, if you don't mind my asking: will you be wearing any Nail Polish?? LOL...
MrsPeel
02-20-2008, 12:46 PM
{i gots green toes right now!}
Hmmm, maybe I should do my fingernails as well before our "date" - nothing shocks MrPeel after 6+ years of marriage!
Shasha
02-21-2008, 03:24 AM
LOL {rofl} GREEN TOES :clapping3: REALLY :party6: Mrs Peel!!!
I've heard of them green fingers before... usually with regards to gardening... :rolling2: Is that green with glitter???
I hope you had a stunning date? Green finger and all LOL!
We did watch Atonement! and I was quiet excited about the seats we got, they were call the Love Nest, which simply means that the two of them didn't have an arm rest inbetween, which makes for bigger seats and nice cuddling while watching the movie.
The movie itself was nice, a bit sad though... but then it's always going to be like that when someone makes a serious mistake and lives become affected forever.
On a happy note: we all know that we cannot go back and change the past, but you can fashion a brand new ending for yourself by becoming more healthy and well and the best way to do this is simply to follow your eating plan 100% 24/7. So, please keep up the good work! (not that I thought you ever would consider anything else, but, this just for encouragement...)
And, oh, Sweeney Todd (LOL) has come to town! do you recon we should go see it?
MrsPeel
02-21-2008, 01:54 PM
<<Is that green with glitter???>>
Actually, kind of a shimmery green - it's my favorite Anna Sui color. Smells like roses, too! :P
<<And, oh, Sweeney Todd (LOL) has come to town! do you recon we should go see it?>>
WELL - that depends entirely on the balance between your love for Johnny Depp and your tolerance for gore . . . it's quite graphic! :scarymovie:
Shasha
02-22-2008, 05:59 AM
So, how did your evening watching Cabaret go?? :flirt:
I kinda pictured it to be a nice shimmery green... nice about the rose smell!! Do you ever do Nail Art? Like sticking on a * or a :love4:
Thanks for the tip about the TODD... we'll have to see what else is showing and then decide :flirt:
MrsPeel
02-22-2008, 01:40 PM
Cabaret was fantastic, as I remembered it. It still amazes me how Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey seem to leap off the screen - in a way, very un-cinematic performances, but so exciting! MrPeel and I got the "snuggle seats" as well (no armrest betwixt).
Somehow, adult life hasn't left me much time for nail art, but when I was younger - YES! Black nail polish with little planets & stars was a cool one . . . :wacky:
Shasha
02-25-2008, 05:37 AM
:love5: Those snuggle seat are the very best ever!!
I also  Liza Minnelli...
And Mrs Peel, clearly you have been places that I haven't been! {rofl} You got me again with the black nail polish :party6: and the little planets & stars... you funky girl!!
Yes, isn't is just funny how time goes faster and faster and faster the older we seem to get?
I was playing with one of my Babies (cats) this morning and thinking to myself where on earth did the 14 years go?!? It is scary!!
MrsPeel
02-25-2008, 10:38 AM
Shasha, it is SO scary! My two oldest kitties turn 18 in April, and I can't believe that they've been with me for so long!
Part of it, for me, is living my adult life in Los Angeles - I grew up in a four seasons climate, and you tend to mark time there by the passing of the seasons. In L.A., where the seasons are so much less clearly defined, time flows by you unnoticed, and then one day - BANG! - you're a lot older! :hypnotic:
Don't be shocked - today is a purple polish sort of day! Some things I haven't grown out of . . .
Shasha
02-26-2008, 07:33 AM
{hi} there Mrs Peel
Yes, the time thing is VERY scary! It's just like you say: BANG! - you're a lot older! That is VERY SCARY!!!
:flirt: With this urgency, there is no time to waste on not following your diet 100%... why waste another year only to decide that next year you will try again... Grab life NOW and go for your goals with both hands outstretched... :flying:
18 years WOW, that is a pretty long time for friendship!!!
I really love my kitties - they all have SUCH DIFFERENT personalities! One will do anything for FOOD, the other loves TICKLES, the more the better and if you pull your hand away too soon, two little paws grab onto your fingers and try to pull you closer... then there is my little private investigator, who wants to know everything about whatever looks interesting and of course the little playful one... who takes decor (monkey balls) right out of the bowl on the table and plays it to pieces on the floor... Kitties give out such unconditional love... it's amazing what a big role they play in making our home HOME! I wish I could make them live to be 80 or more years old!
{rofl} at the PURPLE NAIL POLISH - you spunky thing! So, is there a colour that you have not yet tried wearing on your nails yet? Perhaps blue?
MrsPeel
02-26-2008, 12:27 PM
Shasha, you thought you had me there, didn't you?? :P I went to an awards show in 1998 in a deep blue velvet gown and had fingers & toes done in Chanel midnight blue polish with silver twinkles!
Just can't get into YELLOW polish, though . . .
Megsy
02-26-2008, 12:27 PM
Awwww.. reading your posts about kitties is just so adorable and I loved reading the cute little things they do. :love4: The other thing it's done is realise how much I miss my gorgeous Charlie whom we left back in Australia with my in-laws. :crying: He's a lilac burmese, 8 years old and lord of the manor! He couldn't share his home with anyone else, he ruled! Such a character that's for sure. He moved with us around Australia and made friends with all the neighbours, but the move to the states was urgent and I felt might have been too traumatic for him (it was traumatic enough for us!!).
Thanks for the tales.. :rolling2:
Shasha
02-27-2008, 04:12 AM
{rofl} Mrs Peel yes, I thought I had you... But, I was thinking in terms of cobolt blue or sky blue - Chanel midnight blue polish with silver twinkles! never came to mind {bangdesk} - I do believe this with your deep blue velvet gown would have looked STUNNING! :applause:
So, I just want you to know that when you and Mr Peel send in your AFTER photo's, I'll be looking with a magnifying glass to see the colour :rolling2:
I would NEVER wear YELLOW nail polish either... It would make me feel tooo much that I've turned my hands into MAIDEN FINGERS (name given to a bunch of little banana's). LOL
Shasha
02-27-2008, 04:33 AM
{hi} there Megsie
I'm so sorry to hear that you had to leave Charlie back in Australia :comfort: that must have been shattering!
I would be devistated if I had to leave my Kiddies behind... :crying: in fact, I would probably rather wave my hubby goodbye than my Kitties... thankfully he feels the same about them as I do and they get called the Kids in our home...
At least you know your little Charlie is in good hands! :comfort:

Well, MrPeel and I sat in the snuggle seats and took in Vantage Point last night. Overall, we enjoyed it - but felt the ending was both over the top and a bit weak, story-wise. Performances and production value were very good but the script starts out very promising and doesn't pay off properly.
But always fun to see a show!!

I'll bet Mrs Peel, especially in them snuggle seats!!! :love5:
Thanks for the review... I have no idea what we'll be watching next... but you've reminded me, it's time to book a date! No point in being so busy that you don't get time for the good stuff!!!
I'm longing to watch a good comedy that will make us both laugh :couchpotato: will have to go and see what's showing...

I just wanted to know if you've seen the movie 10 000 BC? What did you think of it?

Hi there,
We saw a movie (at home) last night which I thought was really funny and thought I'd mention it. A British movie called Death at a Funeral. Can only recall one actors name: Matthew MacFayden. He also starred opposite Keira Knightley in the recent rendition of Pride and Prejudice.
And speaking of Keira Knightley saw her in Atonement with James McAvoy a couple of weeks back. Really enjoyed that movie too.
And they are the only 2 new movies I've seen so far this year... sad but true as I do love movies!!
Hope to see some more soon - or some more recommendations?!

Megsy, WE LOVE Death at a Funeral!!!! I can't believe you saw it - no one we know saw it, even though we kept recommending it. I'm a huge fan of Matthew MacFadyen - he was one of the original leads of MI-5 (Spooks in the UK). And he and Keeley Hawes, who plays his wife in Death and was his co-star on MI-5 are married.
We didn't make it to the movies this weekend, but soon!

It's very NB to make time in that busy schedule of yours for you and Mr Peel to snuggle up in some comfy seats... :love5: so, I hope you painted your toe nails this weekend and went!
Megsy: I haven't seen Death at a Funeral, but did also enjoy Atonement :flirt: will look out for Death at a Funeral seeing as it is so highly recommended!!!
We watched Waterhorse about the Loch Ness Monster... SCARY STUFF - just joking!!! cute movie just to watch and enjoy and make you smile...
LOL - my hubby wants to watch Dr Seuss Horton Who Hears - yup, my grown man loves cartoons!! I don't mind because I believe they keep us young at heart and so off we will go... LOL... Somehow we really enjoy the little escape away and a cup of coffee afterwards...
Let me know what other movies are good... {rofl} I won't go into details, but, I won a bet today (with my hubby of course) and so it's my turn to choose what we go and watch next!

Watched a few at home that's been out awhile:
1) Hitman - awesome movie if you like action movies and don't mind a little blood.
2) I Am Legend - we really liked this movie and felt like it was a completely new twist on the Apocolypse.
3) Doomsday: 2012 - we weren't too impressed with this one. It was okay, but nothing spectacular.
4) Awake - okay, now this was just wierd and too way out there for our taste.
5) Death Sentence (w/Kevin Bacon) - this actually turned out to be a really good movie, but somewhat on the violent side. The storyline was touching though.
I don't usually watch all that much television, but we definitely logged our hours in front of it this weekend. :)

Yep… that’s quiet a bit of movies…. but it’s good to take a break sometimes :couchpotato: thanks for all the reviews!!
We also watched The Nanny Diaries… and enjoyed that too! Did you see it?

04-26-2008, 04:32 PM
I LOVE Horton Hears a Who! I saw it twice in one week, the first time because for some reason I really wanted to go (I've never read the book so I can't explain why), the second time I dragged my family with me so I could have someone to talk to about it.
And Nanny Diaries was pretty good, but my sister loved it so much that she watched it every single day until we had to take it back to Blockbuster, so now I'm kind of sick of it. It was still well-done, though!
You were all talking about Pride & Prejudice. Are there any Sense and Sensibility fans here? I just watched that for the first time last weekend (the version with Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson) and I absolutely love it! We've had it for years it was just never appealing enough for me to actually watch!

Just watched The Bucket List a couple of nights ago, starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, two of my favorite actors. Basically, it is the story of two guys who have cancer and have been given less than a year to live. The Bucket List is a list of things you never did in your life but always wanted to. So, these two set off to complete their list. Great story line and a potential for some serious comedic moments. Wasn't disappointed in the story line, but the comedy was lacking -- there just could have been so much more in this department with these two actors and the plot. But overall, thought it was a touching and decent little movie.

Watched this last night with my daughter and we both agreed that while it was good, it was not as good as the first one. The first one had alot more clues and action then this one. But as sequels go, it was definitely okay. They brought back all of the original cast, which I think always makes it better.

Hi Folks,
I saw Made of Honor last week.:love1: It was super cute! Of course it was totally perdictable, but if you just want a feel good fun movie, I highly reccomend it. And, if you like McDreamy, that's an added bonus. He's not really my type, but he's not hard to look at, that's for sure!:P

My husband and I just watched In the Valley of Elah and Troubled Waters. In the Valley of Elah is based on factual events. The story involves a son who goes missing just after returning from Iraq. His father, played by Tommy Lee Jones, investigates his disappearance and won't give up until he finds the truth. His wife is played by Susan Sarandon, another great actor. My husband and I are both huge fans of Tommy Lee Jones and he did an oustanding job in this movie, as usual. In Troubled Waters, an older movie, Jennifer Beals does a great job as an FBI agent who has special insight to crime scenes and solves the mystery of a kidnapping. Both movies were really good.

Hi Everyone, :hii:
My family and I go to the movies alot. Raiders of the lost ark was entertaining and exciting, a bit phony but hay, it's the raiders of the lost ark!
*** in the city - I loved the series on HBO and I loved the movie except one thing, it's kind of a tear jerker. So bring some tissue.
Don't mess with the Zohan - beyond stupid, but had some laugh out loud moments and I do love to laugh out loud.{lol}
Take care everyone,

P.S. Great tip I learned from the forum - for the movie take a sliced apple sprinkled with stevia and cinnamon. It's perfect, it's a fun food!

We watched Kong Fu Panda this weekend and I just so loved the bit where the Po get’s to open the Dragon Scroll to find The Secret to Success…

...and the secret is …

BLANK!
...the page is left open and in fact it’s a bit reflective so Po sees himself, meaning that:

Oooh - I'm going to love this thread! I am a bit of a movie fanatic.
As I don't have kids I can't really give any children's recommendations (although if you are looking for something children and adults can enjoy I suggest you check out the Creature Comforts series by Aardman).
Hands down the best movie I have seen this year - or possibly ever in my life - was a German film called Das Leben der Anderen (aka The Lives of Others) which is set in East Germany in 1984 and is about a Stasi surveillance officer and the couple he is assiigned to watch. I cannot recommend it highly enough; in fact, I just ordered a copy for myself online.
Warning: have tissues handy!

Hi, Austen!
Good recommendation - I have been wanting to see that film for a while, so it's a good reminder to rent it!
I work in film, so I'm a bit of a fanatic, too - but seeing movies is often a busman's holiday for us, so we aren't as current as we'd like to be.

Hi All I am no movie buff and I am a bit behind but my daughter brought to my attention a Movie released in 2007 it is amazing musical with the soundtracks coming from the Beatles and it goes back from the 60's to the 70's it was a wonderful DVD!It caused quite a stir with a lot of discussion about how good and how bad it is but a majority of people thought it was outstanding!I come from that time period so I loved every moment of the DVD so much so that I think I will be buying a copy for MYSELF for further reruns being a Beetle Fan and ALL!Have a good Movie watching!:innocent3:

I know it's not a movie, it's a television series, but have any of you watched that show Dexter? I had never tried to catch it on television, because it just didn't seem like my cup of tea, because I hate movies about serial killers -- all that blood, guts and gore. Yuck!!! But, I was bored one day and found the entire first season online, and decided to give it a try. It's basically a series about a forensics blood splatter specialist who also happens to be a serial killer -- how wierd yet funny is that? The main character is played by the same guy who played David on Six Feet Under. I definitely like him better as a straight guy and he does such a great job playing Dexter. You actually find yourself liking this guy -- it's sort of wierd. If you've never watched it, give it a try, you just might get hooked like I did. I have now watched both seasons 1 and 2 online and can't wait for season 3 to start this fall. Happy watching!!!!

My husband and I watched two movies last night. The first one was Vantage Point... very different and interesting. I thought the movie was well done, but it is definitely one of those you have to watch without interruptions and play close attention to. Nice ending. The second movie is a lesser known movie called Resurrecting the Champ, starring Samuel Jackson and Josh Hartnett. An excellent movie with a great storyline. I am not a fan of boxing, but this movie was more about the writer's story than the boxer's story. A really great movie.

Hi,
My family and I went to see Journey to the center of the earth last night and we made the mistake of not seeing it at a theater playing it in 3D. It was terrible, at least in 3D the effects would probably be great. We had to give it a thumbs down. Waste of our money and time.:( So far Iron Man is our favorite summer movie yet. :party1:

Hey everyone... hope you all had a wonderful Sunday. My husband and I just finished watching The Other Boleyn Girl and it was a really great movie. It was an excellent portrayal of the madness that went on during King Henry's reign regarding all of his wives and mistresses. I never did like history in school, but if we had been allowed to watch it through wonderful movies like this, I probably would have enjoyed it so much more. Well, gonna go relax a little more before bedtime. Goodnight all and see you in the threads tomorrow.

I accidently became a fan of this show... I was channel surfing and got hooked... I personally was very bummed when they took Journeyman off television..

Saw the new movie version of Mama Mia with Meryl Streep this weekend and loved it. Its a very light movie, kinda campy, but a load of fun, and it makes you just feel GOOD (like you wanna get up and dance around the theater. Like the movie HAIRSPRAY, another of my favorites because its so much fun).
Also watched on DVD College Road trip with Martin Lawrence and Donny Osmond (okay I admit I was in love with Donny Osmond in elementary school and he does comedy quite well in this) and both of them were very funny. Lighthearted comedy and okay for all the family, another fun movie.
P.S. To Sasha: I saw your old post about P.S. I Love You and have to say I absolutely loved this movie, saw it 3 times at the theater (with a different person each time of course). Made me want to pack my bags and head to Ireland. Of course watching and listening to Gerard Butler :love4: is nice anytime dont you think?

I totally agree with you on WAKING NED DEVINE. A former supervisor of mine turned me onto that one (her parents are Irish and she about fell in the aisle rolling with laughter). Very cute and funny funny movie, I almost bust a gut laughing at the part with the "teeth" (you know what Im talking about, so I wont spoil it for anyone thats gonna watch it). Great pick, love Cinderella Man, The Notebook and gonna have to watch now A Death At A Funeral as Ive read a few people on this blog say it was good.
Rachel
I couldnt tell from your post, but did you mean you loved P.S. I Love You??? If so, I agree. Im not sure what it was exactly about the movie (great cast loved them all), cause it was also sad. Maybe because I know someone that lost her spouse last year at a very very young age and newly married to boot. Touching move no doubt.
Ah last but not least, PUMBZA
Thrilled to hear you loved HAIRSPRAY and the musical category, me too (Ah ha, is that your Metromale side coming out (what the heck is Metromale, is that the term???) anyway. You will have to see WAKING NED DEVINE as I suspect with your personality and fabulous sense of humor you will appreciate the humor. A friend gave me a copy of ACROSS THE UNIVERSE as she and her hubby loved it, but Ive yet to watch, sounds like you enjoyed it too, so Ill have to check it out soon. Since you were speaking of your homeland, can I also just say that one of my all time favorite movies is OUT OF AFRICA. Love it, love it, love it. Do you wear the safari clothes complete with rifle like Redford ( Ha Ha Ha) If so your gonna have to post some pics soon. :plane::elmer: (Thats Redford and Streep in the airplane)

I promised myself a pedicure when meeting my first goal of a loss of 20lbs, and I took part of the day off from work yesterday and went AND GOT IT! You know that 45lbs loss of yours means you deserve a special treat too, maybe a nice manicure, pedicure or facial????? Are you brave enough?? Did you set yourself a 1st goal reward??? Try it, its was fun.

I haven't read this thread yet so I don't know if anyone has mentioned this film yet, but I just HAD to share with you. I saw Man on Wire last night, and I HIGHLY recommend it to EVERYONE. It was especially moving because today is the anniversary (for us here in the States) of 9/11. It's about a high wire walker who broke into the World Trade Center and rigged his high wire between the buildings and walked his tight rope there for 45 minutes! It's AMAZING and quite a beautiful tribute to those buildings as well. Between the artistry, the music, and the wonderful character that this tightrope walker is, this is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen, and I truly hope it gets and Academy Award. Just had to share! :) There is a review of it (though not as gushing as I would have been had I wrote it) on our web magazine: Buzzine (you can search for the film once you're in our site). Being careful not to post a link here. :)

We watched a really good movie the other night....The Great Debaters. It's a Denzel Washington directed movie and he stars in it, also. It's based on a true story of a black college debate team and their rise to the top! Very well acted and eye opening. I can sort of understand why people in the 30's acted so racist..it was from ignorance. But why people TODAY still harbor hatred for someone purely because of the color of their skin is way beyond my thinking!!
It was a good movie.
Phyllis
