Hi everyone! I thought I'd share a "secret" that has helped me stay on track these past 6 weeks ...

Knitting.

It keeps my hands busy in the evening, so I don't snack (I've been a late night snacker in the past). I'm a self-taught knitter, and really love it! I just wish there were more time to knit sometimes :)

So ... this thread is for all 1PD knitters. Feel free to show off your FO's (Finished Objects) or WIP's (Works in Progress). I'd love to have knitters at all stages - from beginners to guild members! I'm going to start another thread for a knit-along, so we can all start working on an identical project!

Let's get knitting!

[P.S. Shasha - if you feel there is a better "spot" for this thread, please feel free to move it!]

Joy,
My daughter found a knitting scholarship to enter. She is self taught also and has taught 15 of her friends, it is sooooo funny to see them all sitting around, talking, laughing and knitting!!! I get such a kick out of it.

Do you have a unique item to knit? Has to made with wool yarn for the scholarship, we need some suggestions.
Thanks, I keep my hands busy with sewing, I am making quilt squares out of all the old fabric squares I have. I just found a pattern and fabric for a summer dress, I was so excited. I may have to get a new pattern for the summer, since I will be soooo much smaller then. I still love the fabric, just have to wait a couple months to make it now.

Hi Mama Lake! I've always wanted to start quilting too, but I have too many "obsessions" as it is. I'll start looking for some fun patterns for your daughter - when is the due date? Knitty dot com has some really cool patterns!

Mandy - yes you may latch-hook!! Or you can learn to knit too! Go to knitting help dot com - that's where I learned to knit, they have videos and everything!

Here are a few of my completed projects ...

Harry Potter Dark Mark Scarf

Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets Gryffindor Scarf (modeled by my little witch)

Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone Gryffindor Scarf (modeled by my handsome wizard)

The Meri Scarf - handknit and designed by ME! Modeled by my friend Meri (she's also in the photo I posted in Pumbza's 18 Years & Older photo post).

As you can see, I'm a bit of a HP fan!

LOL - Oh my God, the "Latch Hook" comment cracked me up! Do they still make those?? When I was in middle school (11-12 yrs old I think) I did a latch hook "Oscar the Grouch" for my cousin Steven who at the time was so into Oscar.

Joy, the HP scarves are great! You could sell some of those ... as a Potter fan myself, I'm a little disappointed that the next movie was pushed back, but I can't wait to see the last book in a two-part movie series. And you know I"ll be eating the fully buttered and salted movie-popcorn when that one comes out! (I'll just do a small and not a large) :)

{hi} there Joy

Wow!! Those scarves are really cool!! :applause: Must agree with Shawn, your could make money with scarves like those!

I got so excited when I read about your knit along thread that I wanted to post some pictures, but I’m such an amateur I normally choose a fancy multi-colored wool so I don't have to change colors and all… oh dear! Never-the-less, I feel like an inspired amateur again!!! {boing}

I do believe we should move the knitting threads into the Coffee Clutch Section rather than having them in the support… so, I’ll make work of that… before finding my needles again :nerd:

I've been wantiing to learn to knit forever. I want to quilt, too. I have all the stuff but just don't have the patience to get it right. I always drop a stitch or it's loose then too tight etc....

Thank you everyone for your compliments on my knits! I love love love Harry Potter - although I'm now a "Twilight" fanatic. I've been searching for Twilight-themed knits, but there probably won't be any until the movie is released next month.

I'm now knitting another scarf - it's my first knit project that I'm actually making for ME and not for someone else! I picked out a nice merino wool in an olive green color. I'm doing a basic stockinette stitch, and am going to attempt to add a decorative border when I'm done.

I found a cute pattern for Converse baby booties that I want to knit too - I have two friends that are due next month, so I may take a break from my scarf to get those knit in time for their blessed days.

Nicole - there's no time like the present to start knitting! Just google learn to knit videos and get started :) That's how I learned! It's a fairly cheap hobby to start (but then gets expensive if you become a yarn harlot like me!) Let me know if you need any help!

I'm a HUGE HP fan too..

In fact I was "Host Wtch Fawkes" as a moderator on the official Harry Potter boards for nearly 3 years!

I LOVE that Death Mark scarf! I personally identify with "Gryffindor" but my Slytherine bestfriend would LOVE to have that scarf! He would just go nutty!

How long did that take to make?

Speaking of knitting.

I started today after my walk. I picked up all the supplies and came home and started and it took me way too long to admit to understand the whole "cast on" but finally got it.. and then I must have kitted and pulled apart about 100 stitches, until I finally decided to just do one and let it be! It can be my first, just really ugly scarf. Ha!

I did pick up two things of yarn, one for my "learn how" and another for a scarf that I actually want to make for New York!

How long does it usually take to make a scarf? I can tell you it did take a ton of time of my day today, which was great. It actually might be just the thing I need to keep me busy. I'm trying to be echo freindly and start taking the bus to work, but it takes nearly an hour each way and I need something to keep me busy and I get tired of always being on my computer. This might be just the ticket!
