Hi -- It's been nearly six months since I finished the 1st Personal Diet, and have kept my weight within the prescribed range (144-150 lbs) from a high of 257 pounds.
I was on the diet for nearly 27 weeks due to the amount of weight loss I required to reach this goal plus the refeeding time.
The diet helped me find a hidden dairy allergy, and because of my tendency to obesity, I'm not supposed to eat much fruit. And, now, six months later, I still have great difficulty without my "3 fruit 6 cracker" snacks which were allowed while I was ON the diet.
My problem: coming up with a sweet-ish snack (not fruit, not dairy) that replaces fruit and crackers? I can't think of anything that isn't CARBS. Have you any suggestions, please?
Thanks!
Gail Ferguson Stout
still 145 pounds after almost six months! :-)

GAIL!!! WOW ... Congrats !!! You did great and managed to keep the weight off for nearly six months. You are the queen :flag:
{king}
I think that the real test of a good diet is the ability to keep the new weight for a long time and this is why this diet is so graet. Granted, you need to manage yourself :) but at least this is working.
I do not eat sweet snacks but you can try and find a cracker that you like. There is a new cracker on the 1PD crackers list and I just LOVE it.

{hi} there Gail
{congrats} on having lost so much weight and on keeping it off for almost 6 months...
WELL DONE!!! :bighug:
You may still snack on your crackers (no more than 2 at a time) between your meals.
Ideal snack would be a cracker with a slice of low lactose cheese on it. You could have Deli sliced low-fat turkey breast with or without a cracker as well :-)
As you mention feeling like fruit, please note the following:
You have 4 groups of fruit...
1) Diet fruits (allowed while on diet)
2) Good fruits (pineapple, litchi's, papaya etc.)
3) Bad fruits (watermelon, strawberries, banana etc.)
4) The unmentionables (grapes etc.)
Section 1 has less sugar, followed by 2 having more, 3 having much more and 4 having the most. If during the diet you became use to having an apple each morning at 11 am and now you feel like having a fruit in the morning or the afternoon, please choose a fruit from your diet list as these have the least sugar and will trigger the least insulin.
Try this for a day or two and see what happens - if you do not suddenly feel hungry and hour later, then you know that you are fine to eat diet fruit as a snack in the morning, if on the other hand you suddenly find that you are now hungry after having the fruit, then please avoid the fruit.
Also remember that you can cook your apple in a bit of diet cola flavoured soda - this makes a delicious sweet treat.
You should keep fruits in sections 2, 3 and 4 for deserts as these contain more sugar and will trigger insulin. (Regarding grapes which are very high in sugar, I recommend that you freeze them - they come out like a type of sorbet... this way you will eat less of them.)
Another snack option would be to have a plain yogurt flavoured with cinnamon and sweetener.
Please try the above and let us know how they work for you...
ONCE AGAIN WELL DONE!!! {cheerleader} You're my hero!!!

THANK YOU! I'm quite pleased to be healthy (as I lost weight, I lost medical conditions) -- and I went from 12 medications a day to just one thyroid supplement.
Please remember that I can eat NO DAIRY -- that means no cheese, no yogurt, no MOUSSE, no CHEESECAKE etc. Because the diet rules limit me, I may not eat FRUIT (cuz the diet says I'm obese) -- so that means NO FRUIT.
So I'm right back where I was -- Is there anything out there that can be dessert or snack like for people like me that ISN'T DAIRY, FRUIT, & CARBS? (as in "can only eat during the carb meal")?

{hi} there Gail
Your diet is quiet restrictive...
I really do recommend that your try the apple tip above. Remember apples are diet fruit and so should be fine in the morning - best would be to try just one day and see how your body reacts to this...
You could also try making diet cookies.
Mix powder sweetener with cinnamon or nutmeg powder in a shaker. Sprinkle over your diet crackers to make diet cookies. These may even be baked in the oven to give an even more crispy cookies...
Hope this helps :bighug:

This does help, thanks.
I wonder, though -- does that mean that I can only eat the apple/diet cookie/whatever AT the "Carb meal"? What would happen if I had protein for a snack (NOT at a mealtime); like having sliced turkey or sliced beef or whatever just in the middle of the afternoon? I can't quite figure out from the re-feeding guide if that's okay or not.
What do you think?

{hi} GailStout
During the Maintenance ie: Life after Refeeding, you are allowed to have a snack between your meals.
Having a proteins is 100% perfect as said in the post above:
You may still snack on your crackers (no more than 2 at a time) between your meals... You could have Deli sliced low-fat turkey breast with or without a cracker as well.
So, YES, you may have: ''sliced turkey or sliced beef or whatever just in the middle of the afternoon?''... try to go with low fat options that do not contain all sorts of additives.
You may also make your diet cookies and you may have a diet fruit such as apple - just monitor how you feel with the fruit. If they do not trigger hunger for you, then that is 100% fine and you may have a diet fruit between your meals...
Hope this helps... :bighug:

Thank you!! That's perfectly wonderful for me. One further question (just so I'm completely certain I have this correctly!) -- does the protein in the snack have to be included in my daily "normal portion" size, or is it additional?
I tried the "diet cookie" today, and it worked like a charm -- a little cinnamon and sugar substitute on a cracker and heated up in the toaster over! :-) Perfect!

{hi} there Gail-Super-Star-Stout
Remember that you last day of your Refeeding Program is a good indication of how much protein and vegetables, fruit, starch etc you need each day.
Most clients complain that the food becomes TOO MUCH... You may simply use some of the protein that you feel is too much and have a slice or two of this. We want you to have enough good food so that you are not getting hungry. If you feel major hungry, go ahead and add some veggies to your snack.
Eating enough good food is a good way to prevent you from later snacking on 'junk food'.
Just a thought:
If you do feel hungry often between meals you could be making a mistake in that some of the food you are eating could be triggering hunger (foods or drinks containing fruit flavouring etc) or, it can be that you are not eating enough food during meal times.
I'm so glad that you have enjoyed the diet biscuits! Way to go! Keep on following healthy eating patterns and your are bound to keep looking lovely!
...Now, I have one for you...
{praying}We have a special section called MY PROGRESS and another section called My PICTURES. A lot of clients visit these two area's and find they get very motivated by reading up on other peoples success.
I would like to ask if you would please share your success by opening your own New Thread - you can call it Gailstout's Success Story. If you like you can put a before and after picture in... otherwise, simply share what you shared with Jaclyn on 31 January in Flu or the Diet by cutting and pasting the relevant details...
I'm so hoping you will say YES {praying}
If you are happy to do this, but not sure how to make your Own New Thread, just let me know if you want to use My Progress or My Pictures and I will be glad to open the thread just for you...
Don't forget if you have any questions, just ask, we are right here... {bighug}

{hi} there Gail
Sorry, I could not resist the above!!!
Simply let people how a bit about you and also how much weight you lost in how long... which sizes you've dropped, how you are looking and feeling... how your life has changed...
You don't have to write a whole long post in one go, or you can if you like... I am willing to bet you will have quiet a few Dieters swarming to ask you about your success etc... everyone wants' to meet a SUPER STAR WINNER!!!
How you do it will depend on your own special touch... you could call it: Gailstout's Success Story or the Memoirs of Gailstout... or Diet Diary of Gailstout... if you want to post once off and let other dieters write to you and then write back to them that is fine... In your journal or your space you could tell us about different aspects of your road to success...
Little secrets along the way... what worked for you... your favourite recipe! What did you use to do when eating out...
You've come a long road and you've done very well... :bighug:
Girl, you are one of our online hero's... {goodjob} being new, the Forum does not yet have many members who have completed the program... you can look under pictures at I DID IT by Allison... who also did very very well... to me the only sad thing is that we don't have more HERO's... I'm talking about those who have finished and... YOU HAVE! AND YOU HAVE KEPT YOUR WEIGHT DOWN FOR 6 MONTHS - SO FAR...
Allison is suggested to look at as just an idea to see what someone else did... let your own inspiration rise up within you... you are unique and you are you and that is who we want to see... chat style is fine... just like now...
Don't be scared, we're all in this thing together!!! I'll be right here... it will be okay :bighug:
Come on girl, we can hardly wait to discover more about you and to see some photo's...

Okay -- how do I do this? I have a "before" and an "after" photo (might be a bit scary for young children, however ;-). I have some blog-ish stuff. How do I post it to wherever it's supposed to be posted?

{hi} there GailStout
Yaaay... that sounds WONDERFUL!!!
(Maybe print this page so you can have it next to you when you work...)
So now all you need to do is go into 1st Personal Diet Forum, then go to MY PICTURES, click on that, then you click on NEW THREAD... Type the tile ie: Gail's Road to Success and then why not add in a little icon - to do this just look at the box below where you are typing and then click in the circle next to the picture that you like eg: on this post I'm put the green smilie face cos he looks very happy...
Then type your message and insert your picture by using the paper clip at the top...
Remember you can change the colour of your typing after typing by highlighting your text ie: use control A to highlight all your test or your mouse to highlight a certain part and then click on the down arrow on the right hand side of the A with the black colour line underneath - this will allow you to choose nice colour for your text. It will then say [COLOR="Red".] on both sides of your typing...[/COLOR.] This is just the programming language and will not show in your actual post.
You can click on preview to see what your text will look like prior to submitting it, then just scroll down to make changes and push submit to post your text.
If you want to add a smilie, just click on the box next to where you are typing and select more, a new box will open, maximise this by clicking on the blue box at the very top right hand corner (the red one will close the smilies) then select a smilie ie: {cheerleader} - to do this you highlight the name of the smilie ie: cheerleader together with the {}. To copy push and keep down the control key and push C then go to your test where you want to insert the picture and push and keep down the control key and push V - this will then copy and paste the pictures into your text... a maximum of 4 smilies are allowed per post, but they really help to show expression and create mood...
To paste a photo is a little more tricky, but don't worry, ONLY 1st Personal Diet clients who have registered can see your photo's - to the rest of the world it will just be the image name ie: Before Photo or whatever you have called it.
Attachments such as photo's have size limits. When you click on the paperclip it will show you the size limits depending on your File type - there is a Max File size, Max Width, Max Height etc. You may need to edit your particular file type to make it a bit smaller. You may only post the following types of files: bmp, gif, jpeg, jpg, png or psd.
To post, select the paperclip, then a screen will open, on this click on the browse button. Then simply select the file from the folder where you have saved it on your computer ie: my pictures. Select the file and click on open. Then click on the UPLOAD button next to the browse button - this will upload the file from your computer. You can then look in the current attachment upload box to see if your file is there. Following this please click on CLOSE THIS WINDOW to close the screen.
Then go back to your post, go to the spot where you want your picture to be. Click on the paperclip again and select your file.
Your pic's should then be uploaded...
Hoping to SEE you SOON!!! {boing}
