Hey, I need some input.... I'm so frustrated

My Husband finally decided to go for it and do the diet but he was refused!!!
He took 2 blood tests on the same day, the person at direct labs couldn't get but 1cm of blood out of him (he has thick skin) and the other lab (15 min later) had no problem. They got 3 tubes out.
Well, he got a call from the Nurse saying he has to come in to see the Dr. on Tuesday, something about his blood sugar. AND he got a refusal from Dr. Cohen. He wrote them back asking what he could do, get a dr's note or what but they wrote him back a rude letter just repeating that he's been refused, thank you and good bye. So he wrote back asking for the reason (thinking he could improve things and then try again) but he hasn't gotten an answer back. I'm thinking it's the blood sugar thing but the two friends whom I heard about 1PD from had diabetes and they lost a ton of weight and now are off their meds. So why would they refuse him with no explanation when this could be the thing that changes his health around????

This is frustrating. So we don't know if he should keep trying or if he should try to do it on his own. I just don't know what the approximate amounts should be for a man... He's about where Pumbza started.....

Anyway, thanks for reading all this... I've written it twice now since my first post got lost in cyberspace. If the other one shows up, forgive me! If you have any advice I'd appreciate it!

Thanks
Nicole

The Dr Cohen team can't tell you anything because I am sure they can not diagnose your husband because he is not a patient. I would have him go see his DR to find out what is going on. I am sorry this is so frustrating and I hope everything works out.

Hi Nicole,

I'm sorry to hear about your husband being rejected from 1PD! I agree with Rachel, take the results to his regular physician and see if any of the results were abnormal. It may not only be the blood sugar, but perhaps liver enzymes?

Good luck to you!

Wow, whatever happended there!

I was trying to reply. My mom wanted to start at the same time as me. She was also turned down, and told to go to her regular doctor and get an approval and then she could do the diet.

They told her that her fasting sugar was pre-diabetic, and she had a liver problem. This she knows, she has a fatty liver, thyroid issues, and cholesterol problems, so it was no surprise when her blood results came back bad. She went to the doctor, he put her through a whole other battery of tests, started her back on her blood pressure and thyroid meds, and then approved her for the diet. She is thinking about the first of the year, get through the holidays and then be in full force.

So, I would push the issue and find out why they are refusing him and yes, go to your own doctor and find out what is up and then go from there. Maybe with a note from your personal dr.,Cohen will agree to do the diet.

Good luck,
Cindy

Thanks for your quick replies! I appreciate you all so much!

I just wanted to say that I know that Dr. Cohen can't diagnose my husband but they do know why they refused him..... He just wanted to know from them if he could get a note from the doctor to go on it but they won't answer that. They just repeat the fact that he was refused and good bye. Not, "oh, sure, if you get a note from the Dr. then maybe you can have a chance...". He has an appointment on Tuesday and thought that he could get a note then.... his Dr. WANTS him to go on a diet. Has been telling him for years. THe note wouldn't be a prob. But they won't say whether a note would help..... They won't address that. Just send him a generic type note... Should he get a note from the DR anyway to email to them even if they didn't say that would be ok? How do you get a dr. note sent to them anyway.......

Sorry if I sound curt and frustrated. I'm trying not to be. It's just that I had hope in sight and got it dashed along with the fact that I am so worried about my husband. I'm scared that when he goes in, it's going to be something much worse.... Anyway, I'll let you know what happens.

Have a good day!

Nicole

I agree with everyone... Push the issue and follow up with his personal physician. After doing that I would reapply to 1stPD and see what the outcome is. Good luck

Hey! That's a thought! CAN you reapply to the Diet??? I thought once you got rejected they would have your name in a "no-no" file and then it would pop up if you applied again, with sirens blaring and a big voice saying "intruder alert!"

Ok, maybe that's a little overboard. But does anybody know if you can apply again later and how long do you have to wait??
(Maybe we have a little hope, here).

Thanks,
Nicole

PS. I'm really sad that I put that angry face on my thread. I'm really not an angry person and I'm really not angry, just frustrated. I wonder if I can change that.... Just for that, I'll put a happy face on this one....

Ok, I changed it. The little sad faced guy tells it better!

(now I'm laughing at myself....) :)

I know of several people that have been denied the program. I think Dr. Cohen is just being careful because he doesn't want anything to happen to your husband. It does not excuse that the consultants are not giving you an answer of exactly why he was denied. I do find it upsetting that on the occassional question that I have for them the responses back do not seem as personable as they should be. Alot of times they tell me to reread the guide which I find annoying because that is what I have already done. I am just asking for clarification to make sure I get it right.
I would have your husbands doctor start a program for your husband that would take some of his weight off and maybe get him ready for this program. Maybe there is something he can eat like we do with the three meals with fruit/crackers snacks in between so you two feel as though you are in sync. I am not sure if this made sense but hopefully it helped!!
