I went to a party like that--where everyone just got a prepared plate. The first course was pasta. I just declined to take a plate. (Ignore the weird looks and comments you'll get from the other guests.) Then they brought a salad, which I ate some of and saved the rest to find out what KINDS of vegetables would come with the main course. I think it was green beans, broccoli & carrots, so I had to eat the rest of the salad as my veggies. Luckily there was oil & vinegar (separately) on the table, so I just put a little balsamic, salt & pepper on the salad, which was lettuce, tomato & cucumber--perfect! When I ordered my plate, I asked for no sauces or marinades on the chicken and I just eyeballed the portion size. You'll get through it. Just be really careful and I'm sure they'll try to accommodate you.

Hi there!

My advice - just bring your own food. I'm too nervous about taking a chance and guessing how the food is prepared or how much it weighs. I've now survived eating out in restaurants twice by bringing my own food, as well as a 3 day campout and overnight girls weekend in Chicago. I too have a wedding (and rehearsal dinner) coming up next week, and will bring my own food. Fortunately, the bride is a close friend and she's very supportive. It was kinda cute because her fiance couldn't decide what choice he wanted for the rehearsal dinner, so he and I each picked one, and he'll have some from my plate (since I won't touch it). Good luck!

Another idea would be to talk to the bride's mom (or whoever is hosting the reception) and explain that you're on a medically prescribed diet and the food that you are allowed to eat. See if she will contact the caterer to see if they can meet your needs...if not, they could save the money on your plate if you bring your own food... Some of these receptions can be $50/person and it would be nice to save them some money if you bring your own food. You can have water and diet soda!!! And stay away from the wedding cake!!!:D

Oh yes - my friend is not counting me for the caterer at the wedding reception to save money!
