1 day!!!!!
The first day was a lot better that I expected. I started the day out with and egg and and half a tomato. (6:30 am)
For a snack 1 I had melon and a cracker
Lunch--Chicken and the other half of tomato (12:00pm)
Apple and 1 cracker for snack 2
Dinner--Chicken and cauliflower 2 crackers (6:00pm)
Snack 3 melon and 2 crackers
I am challenging myself to stick to the not weighting but once a month. I am a scale addict so this will be hard for me, but I want to do it for several reasons.
In the past:
I cheat when I get frustrated with the scale
I cheat to reward having a good scale day....
oh...I guess I am not going to cheat either and not weigh myself everyday!!

Hey Pun,
Welcome. No cheating! Be strong. Looks like you are off to a good start. If you like the look of more food on your plate, I suggest spinach or some other lettuce. That way, you get a lot of variety. I love cauliflower, and tomatoes, but they are so heavy!
good luck!

Welcome, Big Pun! (Love that name!) Congratulations on making it through your first day! That's just the first step to the rest of your healthy life! Good for you! I'm glad you recognize your scale habits and are going to break those habits and follow the diet as suggested without weighing but once a month. I think you will find that it's easier to not obsess about the numbers when you don't know what they are! Anyway, nice to meet you!

Hello Pun,
I agree with Mary, try and split up the veggies for some variety. I have my favorites also, like cauliflower, but I try to use about a 1/3 to 1/2 of my favorite and then the rest of something else for variety. I have been using 3 or 4 veggies with my meats in a mock stir fry for a while, nice variety, the flavors blend and makes a good deal of food.
Great to meet you, keep up on the posts, they are a lot of help.

2 Day now....
Second day started out great! I woke up with a sense of accomplisment. I finishe dmy first day and was ready to take on the 2nd.
I started my day with Yogurt. I added a little splenda and cinn. and it was great. (6:30am)
I had an orange for snack 1.
Lunch:
I had Tuna and Tomato and 2 serv. of crackers. (12:00pm)
Snack 2--apple and 1 ser of cracker
Dinner: Beef (God it was hard having a filet not wrapped in bacon.) and asparagus(I know I did not spell that right.)
Snack 3 Canalope and 2 serv. of crackers.
Today was easy until I took my dog for a walk. When I got back I was starving. I had my 3rd snack and drank a ton of water...and I am still hungary....was it the mile walk????
I can't wait to wake up and start day 3.

Hey Pun,
First of all, you spelled asparagus right. :) Also, I think you said before that you don't really exercise. If you haven't been exercising before the diet, you shouldn't start now because your body needs all the calories you can get. These first few days (especially for a big guy like you), you'll probably feel some hunger. That's what Pumbza calls the feeling of fat burning off, so you're supposed to smile. Your body will get used to these tiny portions, but maybe just for this week at least, lay off the walking. That might help. And if you are going to walk, you need to take an extra vitamin that day and try to have an apple either before or after you walk. I did that and it seemed to help. I'd have an apple an hour before I exercised, then a cracker portion as soon as I'd get back. I always hear carbs after you exercise are important...to refuel in a way, I guess. Anyway, keep up the good work! It's going to get easier!

Welcome on board BP! Glad things are going well for you as you start this journey. If you find you're hungry after eating yogurt for breakfast --- switch to an egg and your veggie allowance. The yogurt isn't very filling. The egg, however, when combined with vegetables and a tall glass of water seemed to work for me! I saved the yogurt for refeed and ate it as though it were a dessert. :)

Thanks or the advise Shawn.....I did not get a chance to update how Day 3 went so here it is:
I felt "Weird" all day, or maybe different is a better term. I never figured out if it was a good or bad feeling but I just felt different.
I really can't remember exactly or when exactly I ate yesterday but I did get all three meals and my 3 fruits in. I did have the absolute best dinner of Buffalo Steak and mushrooms and bell peppers. If you have been reading my journal you know I have been keeping pretty vanilla the past 2 days. I was just getting by on what I had in the kitchen so I actually went schopping yesterday so now I can spice things up a little.
By the way did have to go do a wellness survey for work which included being weighed. I have lost 9 POUNDS since Monday!!!!!! I was not expecting that much and I did weigh on my scale from home before I went to the doctor and both said the same thing.
I am so excited and motivated....but I think this did not help my scale addiction!!!!!

Great job Big Pun on the 9lb loss! Now put the scale away until your 4 week weigh-in :)
When I first started 1PD, I didn't even attempt yogurt for breakfast because I was afraid of getting hungry. I'm now at the point where I'm not hungry at all in the mornings, and have been having my yogurt for breakfast. It's almost as if the egg and veggies are too much for me. I still save my fruit and cracker allowance for separate snacks instead of combining them with a meal, they're kind of like my lifeline, as long as I know I have a fruit or cracker left, I know I can get through the day. Kinda silly, but it works for me!
Shawn - Lauren and Rachel took the words right out of my mouth. :)

4 Days now...
After the fasting for the test today...I was able to stay on track with no problem....just set my schedule back about 4 hours!!!
A couple of funny things today......
1st....When I went to the doctor's office today I did not get to see my normal doctor (who knows I am on the diet and thinks it's great), but I saw one of his partners. Of course the first words out of his mouth are "I'm a little concerned about you weight." I threw out the I am on a new program and I have already lost 9 pounds this week. Tried to tell him about 1pd but I knew he was not listening because he goes through the whole checklist of diets I have already tried and tells me how a lot of his patients have had some sucess on these. After about the 3rd time me telling him how the 1pd works I finally gave up talking to him because I started getting pissed. I just said gee I will have to try a new diet plan and went on......when he left his nurse came back in the room and asked me for the information for 1pd because she wants to lose about 45 pounds and this sounded like it was for her......
Second...My weekness has always been eating late and even though it has been only 4 days it just killed me to eat even a little late tonight. I was not hungary but I new I had to. So the late naight cravings at this point have subsided.
Once again thanks for all your guys support and willingness to help...I plan on helping anybody I can.....

Hi Big Pun,
I am on day 5 today, too. Have you noticed that you are extra hungry at all? I am so surprised that I am not starving. I feel like I am doing something wrong!
I have noticed that at meal times I do get hunger pangs, but when I eat they just go away. I know this sounds like a no brainer, but I was thinking that I have never really let myself get to a point each day where I really feel hungry. It is a new feeling for me. I guess I just ate when I felt it was the right time of day and I was not listening to my body.
Now, I can hear it talking to me. Wow! It is so liberating.
I never really realized what that meant, to "listen to your body" about needing food. Sorry to be so deep, but I think I just had a breakthrough!!!
What do you think?
Jen
Big Pun
09-26-2008, 11:05 AM
I agree completly with you. I never let my body ever get hungary I always told my body it was time to eat instead of the other way around!
Good luck and let's both make this challenge a success!!!!

Hi Big Pun and Jenni - don't forget to take your vitamin, and take a 2nd one at lunch if needed to help curb hunger. It honestly works and has helped me get over some tough spots in the beginning! Keep up the great work you two!

Pun--I love your story at the doctor's office. Wait 'til he sees you next! hahaha! Funny how the nurse listened to you better than the doctor did. Good that's not your normal doctor. :)
Jeni--I HAD THE SAME REALIZATION RECENTLY! I've always heard the phrase "listen to your body," but I never really got what it meant. I thought, "with my ears?! I can't hear anything" so I've always ignored whatever my body was trying to tell me. But I feel so much more in touch with my body now--I pay more attention to it and how I FEEL, and that's what they've meant all this time! I kind of knew that, but I ignored it before. You most likely will not be hungry most of the time on this diet. That is the beauty of it. Even when you're craving things (which is all mental), if you ask yourself if you really NEED it or how would your body feel after you ate it...well, you'll know the answer. It's such an amazing diet. I'm so excited to see what else you learn about yourself and your old habits! :)

7 FREAKIN' DAYS!!!!!!
I feel great and this wekend was not the struggle I thought it would be. Friday night we had some friends over for Dinner--Movies and Wii.
They brought salad and since they knew I was on a diet they brought cheese and dressing on the side so you could add your own.
I made them grilled chicken with freshly made salsa with a mexican cheese blend on the top. I grilled their chicken on one side and then I grilled my chicken--A garlic chicken on the other side. I will admit though I did a great job on their chicken it looked great, but I did not even lick my fingers after platting their chicken.
I measured out my salad on the scales and I used a smaller plate so my plate looked just a full as their's did. (Something I have been doing on the diet...using a smaller plate so it looks like my portions are bigger.)
The smell of the roasted potatoes did kind of pull at my hunger heart strings, but I told them since I could not have any of their potatoes...I was not going to share any of my fresh cut melon with them. It was a great time and a great dinner and I did not even come close to cheating....and then we burned some calories playing Wii.
Saturday....college football day. I did get a little break on this as there were no cookouts because all my friends are getting ready for deer season to start on wednesday...but I did go over to a friends house, and I just took my lunch with me....I had my meal 2 cheese allowance (phil fat free cream cheese, celery and my crackers...and I was good to go. Everybody else was dipping chips and I was dipping celery into my cheese. No problems there.
Sunday was a breeze..I think I am getting into a routine!!!!
Can't wait for some deer meat from my buddies!!!\
Tomorrow...I am weighing out the coorect protions for about 5 or 6 meals of chicken breast and the same with turkey breast and throwing them in the smoker. I have never smoked smaller portions like these, but I bet they will turn out great. I have always done full chickens or shoulders or boston butts...but should work out the same with just less time.

Sounds like you're doing great! Planning is the key -- so keep it up! I gotta say, how cool of your friends to be sensitive to the fact that you're on a diet and to come over with foods that you too could eat. My friends put junk food in my face and laugh -- maybe it's a Boston thing. Speaking of Boston, what are Boston butts?
Ladies - thanks for noticing the new avatar -- I have to change it though, I don't like the line on my face. It looks fine when "normal size" but it stands out a lot in avatar size. I'm updating it now, although it'll never go away unless I fatten up.

Shawn...good hearing from you man....
1st a boston butt-- is a cut of pork that comes from the upper part of the shoulder from the front leg and may contain the blade bone
2nd--my friends will be testing me later on...I give them a good 2 or 3 weeks of support then the harrassing starts.
This brings up a thought I was having I would love to hear everybody's opinion.....Do you tell everybody you are on a diet...or do you just keep a small support group. I know at some point people will start asking me....I also hate to think that people are going to hear that I am on a diet and them think....OH ANOTHER ONE.....just some food for thought...

I couldn't help myself, and in the beginning, told everyone about my diet. All were supportive, but I have to admit, 5 weeks into my diet, some are shocked at my resolve and are amazed I haven't cheated at all. Of course, they're also shocked at my results and are even more supportive!

SO MANY PEOPLE notice the weight loss and because it happens so quickly assume that something really bad is going on ... so let them know in advance!

8 days now.....
Everyday seems to be getting easier and easier. Right now I am working out of the house and will have to get back on the road here in a couple of weeks which will be a little more challenging, but I just plan on having my meals prepared the night before and just take them in the morning in a cooler. I will be home most nights, but I do have to visit some clients out of state and will have to fly into some places. I plan on buying me a smaller George Foreman Grill, staying in hotels with fridges, and preparing my meals in the hotel room. I think with a little planning it should be no problem. I can't wait to get out there and start selling...it' what I do best! I already feel like my mind is working better.
By the way the meat smoking yesterday went great. this may become my sunday tradition..smoking my meat for the week ahead. It tasted great. exspecially the chicken breast.

Just finishing up day 9.........Good NEW/Bad NEWS.....
Bad News....I slipped and landed on the scales in the bathroom....(I had my wife hide the scales afterwards)
Good News...I have lost 15.4 pounds in the first nine days.
Tommorrow is a big day for several reasons: 1st it is my wife's and I's 3rd anniversary.
Also as some of you may have read my wife and I both planned on doing the diet together. She has had a delay because when her blood test came back her liver enzymes were high. We called our doctor and he said no alcohol until we came to see him the following week and he took her off all her meds except her blood pressure meds. He said he would take another blood test when we came to see him and he felt like all will be corrected. Well they weren't. Her levels have more than doubled. There are several things that could be wrong...but we are going in tomorrow to have a sonogram of her liver taken. We are waiting for a couple of blood test to come back for some different things also.
I ask that you please keep my wfe and I in your prayers and that everything will come out looking good.

10 Days....WHOOO DOUBLE DIGIT DAYS!!!!!!
100% so far...no cheats!!!!
We also got back a good report from my wife's blood work and liver scan......still not sure why the enzymes are up, but it is nothing major with her liver!!!!! We go in Tuesday to take another blood test to see where her enzymes are, if they are still up, they are going to start looking at her Gallblatter (if that is how it is spelled).
Smoking the meat and having it seperated in each bag has worked out great this week. I just go in grab my bag of meat, throw it in the microwave for 30 seconds...cut up my vegies and I am ready to eat in about 4 minutes. I plann on smoking more chicken and turkey this weekend!
Thank you everybody for your thoughts and prayers. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this and the wife can jo

12 days.....
I am hooked on the Zucchini Hashbrowns...so good. This morning since it is our anniversary weekend I got up and cooked breakfast outside for the wife and I. I just got a new BBQ Grill yesterday that has 2 stove burners on it. I made the HB's and made her an omlet. I got through the week without weighing.
I had the weirdest craving....Coffee...glad we can have it!!!! I have not drank coffee in over a year! Went and got coffee beans and had fresh coffee this morning. Nothing like being outside cooking breakfast and enjoying a great cup of coffee 1st thing in the morning.
Had the butcher find up turkey breast for me so I enjoyed a Turkey burger for lunch (ground up some of my onion and used it with garlic for the burgers).
Well Football is back on gotta go!!!!

I just found your thread. Nice to meet you! You sound like you're doing great on the diet so far. I pray your wife is ok and finds out the problem so she can join us! My husband's blood tests came out wrong, too, but we're not sure why since the 1PD staff didn't tell us and I have not idea how to read the results. He has an appointment on Tuesday with his own MD, so hopefully we'll find out then.
Anyway, I know it's late, but I just wanted to welcome you and congratuate you on a great start. As you can see, these people on this site are wonderful and full of wisdom. I thank God for them everyday. Can't wait to see you shrink!

I hope the docs get to the bottom of your wife's issue. If it is her gall bladder and it needs to come out, it should be a relatively easy process if they can do it laproscopically. Both my sister-in-law and my mom had theirs out years ago and they felt MUCH better after.

2 Weeks!!!!!!!!
Can't believe it has already been 2 weeks. No cheats on purpose(I may have used too much onion 1 day, and I may have used 2 much vinager also--did not know on the vinegar there was a limit/and forgot there was a limit on onions).
I was at the doctor and the scale monster got me, I have lost 19.6 pounds....Which means I am below the 300 pound mark!!!!
I am starting to notice my clothes fitting different. I have 2 new suits that I was trying to decide if they were too loose or not before I started the diet, tried them on and I have to get them tailored. I know this will be the 1st of several, but I have to wear them when I get back on the road.
I am half way through my 1st 4 weeks....I keep breaking down the time in small segments...it works for me.
Smoked another round of meat this weekend, so I am set for the week on meat. I have not tried too many of the recipes, or anything new besides the Z Browns....I am afraid I will mess something up, like with the onions and vinegar.
Hope everybody else is doing well......

After being at home for about an hour, she said she was going shopping and for me to take a nap while she was gone. I went and took about a 30 minute power nap, and when I woke up, I felt a lot better.
And my wife is so sweet, she went shopping for all the fresh ingredients to make me salad dressing. When I woke up I woke up to the smell of Garlic roasting, she used basil thyme, fresh garlic and fresh rosemary and Balsamic Vinegar, and made me CoEhn Salad Dressing. Glad she is a better person that me!!!!

It's been 19 days......
I have become a parnoid mess........I don't think I will be able to ever go out to eat at a restaurant while on the plan. I am re-reading the guide everyday, double checking all my labels, I am so afraid to mess up on accident.
The good news is I have total confidence tht I am not going to slip up on my own. This Sunday will end my third week, which means I am 25% done with 1st 12 weeks!!!!
I tried deer last night...something was not right. 1st it was in the sausage form, but it was still real lean so I thought it would not be a problem, but It was sent to me by my boss and it was very spicy, not sure what spices they used in it (added to my paranoia). This morning I woke up a felt like crap.....called everybody else who ate it last night, and they all felt fine, so something in it did not agree with my new cohen stomach. I gave the rest of it away.
I decided to post my menu's again and that way if I am doing something wrong, somebody might catch it. I started doing this orginally and then stopped because I thought nobody wants to read what I eat. Now I want people to read what I eat.
I am not going to smoke my meat this week either. 2 reasons...1st the smoking process really shrinks the meat so I feel like I am eating less, which would not bug me for 1 meal because it taste so good....but doing it for everyy meal in a week, I feel like I am cheating my self...even though I am still getting all the nutrients.
2nd I am going to the state fair with my 7 year old neice. I was not going to go because my favorite pasttime at the fair is eating. I mean come on: Fired Twinkies!!!!! Fried Snickers Bars....Fresh home Potatoe Chips, The JUMBO Corndogs.......ok that is enough, it will be a test, but I don't think it will be a problem, even right now that stuff does not sound good. Once the smell gets into my nose hopefully I will still feel the same way. My Mom and Dad will both be there, and they are both very supportive of my diet, I may give them my wallett, just incase I have a moment of weekness I still won't have any money. I really don't think it will be a problem though, I am still just so excited about the changes my body are going through.
So far today:
Breakfast--1 Egg and allowance of lettuce (It was quick and I was not hungary)
Lunch-celery and fat free phil. cream cheese.
Dinner-(planned)Chicken Seasoned with black pepper and salad with cucumber and tom. (Balsalmic vinegar/ not more than I tblsp.)
I have aplles and crackers for snack--doub I wil be hungary for them as I am till not real hungry.
Well that was a long post.......

Big Pun,
First, I don't think I ever said hi and welcome. Second, you wife sounds amazing with helping you on your rough day. To be honest I was grumpy and moody on and off for 2 months straight. I hated it. Then this third month has actually been really great. My lows are not like they were and I find it is getting so much better.
That is funny that you will be giving up your wallet at the fair. It can be difficult to be around all the temptations but if everyone is on your side I know you can easily do it. Just keep in mind the end result will come quick!!

Hey guys...just wanted to check in. I survived the State Fair. It was find of funny, the smell sort of got to me, but when I saw the food (and the prices), it just did not look that good. I took my veggies and cheese and had that so when everybody else ate, I pulled out my lunch. I was with a 7 year old, so did a bunch of walking. I did ride a couple of rides with her, and I was able to fit in them, even though the safety bars were a little tight, but I thought how fun it will be next year to jump right on the rides and be comfortable as everybody else. And I will have to have a SUPER CORNDOG next year!!!!! They new thing at the fair this year was Fried Dr. Pepper....did not even sound good. They mixed Dr. Pepper syrup with the batter and deep fry it. That is the one thing I told my dad today, I dn;t think I will ever to be able to eat stuff like that agin...in the past I probly would have tried it, just to try it....
Hope everybody else had a good weekend, I hit the road this week with the job, so a little more prep work for me.

Well I was on the road again visting schools. Easier than I thought. I actually found more time to go and visit school because I was not visting the drive thru's. Started off the day with yogurt and splenda, had ground turkey breast patty and celery, and for dinner TB patty with onions and celery in it, and the rest of my veggie allownace in salad. My wife made me more dressing so I had a tbl spoon of that on my salad. No fruit or crackers today...was just not hungry.
Hope everybody is doing well and hello to all the new people that might read this.....

I know you said you weren't going to smoke your meat this time -- but if I lived anywhere near you, I'd make you smoke mine! I haven't had any turkey since I started this diet... maybe I should do that! WELCOME BACK HOME! xoxo

Hello All.......
Lil NS.....I would gladly smoke your meat for you, usually I smoke more meat for other people thn I do for myself. I love the turkey, we have a store that sells ground turkey breast, I make it into patties, and put a little onion in it, so good.
Well this week was a tough week. Not because of the diet, but I lost a close friend. Katie had faught MS for about 8 years now, and MS finally took over. She was one of the best people that I knew, and I will miss her dearly. I know she had a spot in heaven waiting on her, and she is no longer suffering.
The one positive that is coming out of this experience is, I have not turned to food or alcohol for comfort. This is a big change in my life. Before 1pd this would have been a reason to hit my favorite restaurants so I wold fel better, and get by with all my favorite adult beverages.
Monday would be the end of ny fourth week from when I started, but I think I am going to wait until friday to weigh so I will be on the same schedule as my Cohen official start date. I can't believe it will already have been 4 weeks....that's a whole month. I hope that the next two 4 weeks segments go as well as this.
One of the other Sales Consultant's that I work with started this week. It's been nice to help her through her 1st week.
CJ...if you are reading this I'm thinking about you!!! DRINK YOUR WATER!!!!
I get to go through the whole cirle of life on Monday. I am a pallbearer in the funeral on Monday, then after the funeral I am going to head to the hospital to see my New Nephew who is scheduled to be born on Monday....Hayden, can't wait to meet you......So I ask everybody to keep Katie's friends and family...the VanKurens in you prayers, and also to keep Jean and Bruce, in your prayers as they prepare to bring a new family member into the world.
Thanks everybody and I hope all is going well!!!!!

Hey BP!
I'm SO SORRY about your friend! That was really shocking for me to hear because just this week I found out that one of my closest friends/family member has MS. She's only 33. I am just learning about the disease and hadn't found anything on it about death, so I'm feeling very scared and shocked. After only 8 years?! I'm horrified. I suppose I need to get prepared for whatever lies ahead. Anyway, I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend. I'm sure she's feeling much better being free of her run-down body. I will pray for her and her family that they (and you) get through this difficult time.
Oh--and good for you for sticking with the plan through all this and I can't wait to find out how much you've lost! You and Pumbza could probably have a competition going. :)

Big Pun,
I am so very sorry for your loss!!! I will keep Katie, her family, and you in my prayers. I just recently lost 2 family members (not at the same time) and I know how hard it is. You are never prepared...
It looks like we are on almost the same weigh in day. I get to 4 weeks on Thursday, so we will be finding out together how much we have lost. Keep your chin up, and have a good week.
Blessings,
Jen

Jen and Lauren,
Thanks to both of you guys...you words mean the world to me.
Lauren....She had a severe case of MS. She had memory problems, sight problems, and could not keep any weight on her. She was about 5'7", and I know for a while she was down well below 100 pounds...I think like she was around 80 pounds for a while. The great thing was she never got down. I know her heart was what finally gave out on her. Many people with MS, live long productive lives, she was just one of the unlucky ones.
Jen, we can do like they do on the biggest losser and combine our weight loss!!!
Thanks again,
Big Pun

BP-
:comfort: to you in this hard time. I know you can never be prepared for this. I know its hard to convey how much my heart is out to you and her family right now.
I'm glad you have a blessing coming into this world when such a bright light had to leave, but I'm sure she guided your nephew to your family in health.
I'm here for you if you ever need anyone to vent too.
P.S. My 4 weeks is up on Thursday and my "official" day is Saturday!

Well I made it through another tough few days. The funeral was nice, nd we really tried to celebrate KAtie's life. One thing that came from all the stories is that Katie lived her life to the fullest and was greatful for everyday. She never let herself get down even when MS was taking its toll on her. Even though she passed away at 31, she lived a full life, taking advantage of everyday she had.
Friday is the end of my 1st 4 weeks. I am really looking forward to stepping on the scale and seeing where I am at. I am wearing clothes that I have not been ab le to wear in a long time. I did get to wear jeans my wife bought me for christmas last year, that still had the tags on them. I hope I can stay in the groove I am in right now, because I am not temted in the least bit to stray from the plan. I am going to reread my guide tonight to make sure I am not missing anything. I did realize it had been several days since I had taken a vitamin. We all have our struggles on this plan, and I think my is taking my vitamins. I have never liked taking pills or medicine, and I have to be really sick to actually do it, so I have to come up with somekind of system for my vits.
Thanks again to everybody for their support. It's seems since I have been on the diet, life keeps throwing things at me that usually would make me turn to food. Every challenge I think is making my resolve stronger, and I am actually finding that I am dealing with the stress better.
Hope all is doing welll, and I will post on Friday with the new weight!!!!!

Big Pun -
Sorry to hear about your friend, Katie. I'm sure she would consider herself better for having known you.
MS is a nasty disease - which seems to have a different plan for everyone. Sorry it's plan for Katie was so devistating.
Lauren, sorry to hear about your friend too - keep in mind, there is no set course of this disease. Most people do go on to live a long productive life.
I suppose it's a shocking reminder to all of us to take advantage of today and enjoy life. Sure sounds like Katie did and would recommend that to all of us!
Thanks Big Pun for sharing with us, your 1PD Family - hang in there buddy! Looking forward to hearing your progress on Friday!
