View Full Version : Falling off the bus...and then some...
Sharma

So, I have officially fallen off the bus...but my foot got stuck and I'm being dragged down main street trying to get back on.
I got really sick with a bad cluster migraine this weekend and between the 'can't keep anything down' and the doctors orders I feel like I have committed a serious crime.
It started with the soup my husband made me, then onto the "I can't cook so let's order salads from applebees" (all within allottment fyi) then the 3 mozzerella sticks I ate and the diet drink from sonic and then today....Stupid, weak, me went to gelato spot and boy oh boy....one bad stomach ache later....WOW did I mess up big time. :crying:
Once I started it was hard to stop...one question...why? I figured out it has a lot to do with convenience and the change one mess up made to my body and how once I tasted the food I've been used to eating it wanted more, More, MORE!
I'm not ready to eat regular food yet, end of story. I have programmed my body to an extent but not to the extent it needs to be programmed.
So...now that I am done laying my sins out to my diet buddies....I pray {praying} that I have not totally screwed myself up and hope that when I get back on my high diet horse tomorrow that I will be able to push through, stay happy and free from sin :innocent1: until me and my body are ready.
Ok...bring on the kick in the rear....I need it..please :)
Loves to you all.

Hey Sharma
No butt kicking from this diet buddy. You know what they say, dont wag your finger at someone for doing something that you just might end up doing yourself tomorrow. So far, so good for me ( did blow it Sat/Sun by only eating 2 meals instead of 3. Good grief I never thought NOT eating would be an issure for me). However, tonight at World Market, the chocolate was calling my name..........until I told myself "NO YOU CANT HAVE THAT RIGHT NOW" and got the heck out of that store.
Dont beat yourself up too bad, from my own experience, that is usually my excuse to just give up and throw in the old diet towel. DONT DO THAT. Just get back on the plan at the next meal. Just curious, did the gelato make you feel sick since your body is no longer used to the milk and rich stuff?
Hang in there, dont give up.

Wow--good for you for owning up to your "sins". I'm sorry to hear you had a weak moment, but let's just treat it as such--a weak moment. Tomorrow is a new day and don't beat yourself up too much. However, you must not ever let that happen again because it's too easy to get in the habit of it. Then there's no point in even being on the diet if you're not going to really do it. You'll just be adding weeks and weeks to the length of time you have to do it. I totally understand not feeling well and looking for an easy meal, but you would have been so proud of yourself if you'd just made yourself do it and stay with it. I hope you don't feel too miserable tomorrow. Just live in the moment and move forward from here. That's all you can do. We're all in this together! :)

Good Mornin' Sharma,
Sorry to hear about your migraine and I hope you're feeling better today. I'm also sorry to hear that you went off program again and that your husband wasn't a little more supportive in helping you stay on plan. It really is a team effort. He could have made a soup that was "plan-approved." I think many diet buddies have found that one deviation can lead down that slippery slope where another comes and then after a few you think "Well, at this point if I'm going to cheat I should just go all out!" I'm glad to hear you didn't go THAT far!!!!
If you chose to go off plan, then you can choose to go back on plan. You've lost a good amount of weight, and hopefully these few poor decisions will not slow you down too much. The great thing about this plan is you CAN choose to get back on 100% and pick up where you left off. It just might take your body a little longer to get back into "balance". You can do it if you want to.
I"ll also be the first horrible person to encourage you to consider whether you really deep down inside WANT to change your life through changing your eating habits. Your willingness to go off plan ever since you first started - even by having extra crackers - appears to be a statement saying that you want to lose the weight but you're not willing to do what it takes. You say you'll go on plan and that you're committed 100%, but then you choose to go off plan. This plan works, but only if YOU CHOOSE to follow the rules. The plan requires you, in essence, to change your eating behavior. That's the hard part, we all have to put in the work. The stomach stapling was easy -- someone else did the work, you reap the benefits: your stomach's so small that you're not able to eat as much, and then you lose weight! This program asks you to make healthy choices and to take responsibility and ownership for those choices. You have to do the work - someone else won't do it for you! Knowing your success at work I know you have the potential to get the job done, it's just a question as whether you really want to.
I give you a lot of credit for coming online and sharing that you went off plan. That takes courage and shows that you believe the program can work once you decide to follow it. If you don't think you want to change your eating habits for a few months (that's really all it is: three-six months for many people) then the program might not be right for you just yet. You can always come back to it, but I think it's going to take some soul searching. You may find you'll have limited success with the plan by following it "most of the time" and perhaps that's all you want. You have to figure out "what is my goal?" and "what is it going to take to get there?" Once you know what you want and what you have to do to get there, then comes the hard part "Am I willing to do what it takes? Will I follow the rules?"
I hope when you give it some thought, you decide that THIS TIME you are REALLY willing to stick to the rules and that you're not just saying that because you feel that's what we want to hear. Enough is enough already - either you're going to DO THE DIET or you're going to do what you want. We want you to be successful, but if you don't really want that for yourself, then there's not much we can do to help you. We can say lots of positive things on here and encourage you to go back on plan, but it really is your call. Do you want it, or don't you? We'll support you in whatever decision you make, because this diet obviously isn't for everyone at any time. It's for those that are willing to put in the work and who actually do so, not just talk about it. You CAN DO IT!
Hugs,
Shawn

I am proud of you for being so honest. Speaking from a person who has also fallen off the bus i know how it makes you feel mentally but then when you get back on ( which I did immediatly) you feel so much better. I know that one deviation i did made me realize i will never do it again. 1. because I don;t like gaining and not losing weight and 2. I really felt sick after eating not so great food.
I think Shawn hit the nail right on the head and I think everytime i want to deviate I will come back and read that.
When I first started this diet I remember I had challenges, going away then stress about my health and then my TOM. Well guess what we can't lock ourselves in a box for the rest of our lives. Everyday we are going to have challenges and that is not an excuse to go off plan. I know I need to train myself that food is not the bandaid for all these other issues. I now try to do something nice for myself. Like take a bath or even take a shower with out a 1 year old banging on the bathroom door. LOL. Something just for me.
I hope this helps and I wish you much luck getting back on track.

Shawn, your advice is exactly right. Commitment to the plan is the basic skill that is required, and one must set one's mind to the task.
My version of that is:
There is not one thing that I could put in my mouth right now that would be better than the way I feel at 158 pounds - 8 pounds from my goal weight. It has literally changed my life.

Shawn is definitely not pulling any punches here but he is hitting the nail right on the head. It takes a total commitment and I have to admit Shawn's words although tough talk have strengthened my own determination. We can do this!!!

Thank you so much everyone for your support and kind words, I appreciate it.
Shawn...WOW...what a kick in the rear...and I totally needed it and you are SO RIGHT!! I have struggled but let me tell you, the icky feeling from eating things not on the plan and the fear of undoing all the good I've done I'm ABSOLUTELY READY TO STICK IT!!!
I KNOW I can do this and of course I need everyones help...my husband, my dear husband saw me this weekend going off the plan a bit and he said last night that he will make sure he makes more of an effort for me...but it will also benefit him too! ;)
Rbride...Yes I got a bad tummy ache before I was even done eating the gelato. And you know what....I'm glad...it will help keep me off of it for good.
I can't thank everyone enough for your kind words and the nice kicks in the rear to help me get back on the horse and keep going!
Loves to all!!! :bighug:
Sharma, that's the way to think, get your mind made up and DON'T deviate. This is not a diet that you can cheat and not pay for it. As you know one screw up and it sets you back a week or more. Keep you mind set right and i know that you can do. YOU CAN DO IT, DON'T LET ANYONE, SICKNESS, OR ANYTHING GET IN YOUR WAY FROM REACHING YOUR GOAL. MIMI

Hi Sharma,
Seeing as I just jummped off and back on the bus I feel a little kindred spirit here.
I know that when you allow yourself that freedom to deviate it can be a really good excuse to let it all go. DONT DO THAT! You are on your way to a future so fantastic it's hard to imagine. You will be in control of food, in control of your body, and feeling fantastic about yourself. Yes food will still be there and it will still be tempting but you'll also really have a better understanding of what it was costing you. Your cheat is just that, A cheat! Unless it becomes many cheats. You decide.
You can do this! But Shawn is right, you have to really want to do it too. I wish you all the best, good luck!

Your HALF WAY.. YIPPPPPY
Rach, i know. I have not weighed in over a month and i am dying. I only have 5 days left of my 12 weeks. I hope i'm really close to my goal. I don't know if i will be at my goal weight but i hope so. I don't know whether to weigh now or wait for my 5 days to end. What do you think my 1PD friends??? Let me know. :love8: MIMI

Well I would be a total hypocrite if I told you to wait. How long have you been on plan?
Rachel
Rach, my start date was May 30, 2008. It's my 78 day and i have 6 days left (not 5). I really do hope i'm close to my goal. I'm contemplating weighing??? I don't know. Help me 1PD friends!!:innocent3: MIMI

Do you think your at goal already? I can't imagine I will get to my goal in 12 wks. And we had about the same amout to lose. So you are inspiring me. Can i ask you a few questions? LOL
Did you deviate at all?
Do you eat all your fruit and crackers?
Any tips?
Rachel
Rach, i'm just going by what Dr. Cohen's is saying, he says i have 6 days left of my 12 weeks. I'm probably not at my goal but i hope i'm close. My first month i lost 30 lbs. The next 3 1/2 weeks i only lost 5 lbs. I used my cheese wrong and it cost me a lot. I was totally sick about it, but i bounced back and have been 100% since then. SEE WHAT DEVIATING DOES, EVEN IF I DID NOT DO IT ON PURPOSE, IT STILL COST ME ABOUT A MONTH OF WEIGHT LOSS. Moving on, I hope i've lost at least 20lbs this month. I would be very happy with that. The only tip i have is just please stay 100% so you won't suffer any consequences. LOL MIMI

The reason I asked is because I did deviate as we all know that one time and it really cost me a week. I think maybe I would be close to a 30 lbs lost rather than fighting for a 20.
You didnt answer did you eat your fruit and crackers?

MiMi,
I would say, reduce stress and ease your mind. You are doing so well on the diet, and know you will continue to do well. I can't help but weigh myself. I need it for motivation. I noticed when I wasn't weighing that I was much less tolerant. Today I weighed and no change from yesterday, but the day before I saw results and that motivated me. You have to know yourself. If you can give yourself a break by weighing, do it. You aren't cheating by eating food or anything!
God Bless,
Mary
Thanks, Mei Mei your right i just need to chill, maybe i'll weight tomorrow, i don't know, but thanks for you imput. MIMI
RACH, i know that you cheated but you've lost almost 20bs, that's awesome. YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE YOUR GOAL. Yes i do eat my fruit. I usually eat an orange for lunch and an apple after supper. If i get too hungry after supper i will eat my extra fruit and crackers if i have any allowance left. The only advice i have is you know what it cost you when you deviated so please try not to DEVIATE again, it will be so worth it girl. HANG IN THERE YOUR DOING GREAT!!!! LOL MIMI

{hi} Mimi!
Don't do it!
Try to wait until the day before your support ends to weigh in, that way if you're close to goal you can order your refeed before your support runs out (they won't send it to you if you're not on a support plan). If you're far from refeed you'll know that you'll need to stay strong and stay on plan. I'd be worried that if I weighed early and didn't see the results I had hoped for, then I would be tempted to say "screw it - I'm having a pizza!".
I'd be lying if I told you I only weighed in at 4 week intervals. I checked weekly. But I also was making progress so I never really saw the scale go up. It held steady for a whlie though, and that was kinda a little let down. So if you can hold out, I'd say hold out until the day before your support ends - particularly if you think that you're close to goal.

I can almost guarantee I will not deviate. I am going to Disney in October if I am going to deviate it will be then, but I will be away for my last week of the 12 wks so I am sure I will not deviate then either.
Thanks Shawn, i think i'll take your advice. I'll just grit my teeth and wait it out. So i'll order my refeed the day before if i'm close to my goal, Shawn. What if i like a few lbs reaching my goal can i go ahead and order it? Sorry, i'm asking so many questions.
Mei Mei, thanks i just wanted a little change. LOL :love8: Rach, i'm counting on you to stay on plan. :munchies: NO MUNCHIES....HEE!!! HEE!!! :innocent3: LOL MIMI

Sharma, thanks for posting"your fall of the wagon" message. Your message and Shawn's reply is a sobering reminder not to take myself for granted. What I mean by that is on most weight loss plans I have tried, I have what I call a honeymoon period where following the plan is easy. Then, at some point, life intervenes with challenges, stress and emotions. At that point, the honeymoon is over!
As you can tell, this is not my first (nor 2nd, 10th, 15th) weight loss adventure. And, obviously, I did not give up. In my last attempt, I actually lost 35 lbs. and about 5 clothing size - then I stopped loosing. The food plan I followed was something I made up - it was a basic eat less and move more. last month, I was introduced to 1st PD, researched it and then decided I wanted to do it. Over the last 2 1/2 years, I have been more committed to my overall health and well being as a result I have learned some things that help me. I would like to share them with hope that they may help.
My 25 years of over weight is a combination of emotions and eating. For many years, I didn't know what was behind my eating and binging. Not surprising since most of emotions are buried behind our many rationalizations. In an effort to understand what was driving my eating behavior, I decided to pay attention to my emotions and my thoughts. This was no easy task nor did was I an overnight success at this but I learned a lot. I uncovered a lot and in the process healing happened. I also found my desire and commitment to eating healthy improving. But, I was still drawn to those wonderfully delicious deserts and other "forbidden" foods at those times when I was stressed or dealing with some emotional stuff like grad school. So the next thing I tried is to wait out the urge. I know this sounds crazy and it is not easy the first few times but it does work. Practice makes it a lot easier. So the next time a strong urge hits - stop, recognize it is just an urge and it has no power over then find something to do and wait it out.
(Normally, I wouldn't post much on a forum but this group is positive, self-determined and committed and that is exactly what breeds success in my book :) )
Hope some of this helps.

Mimi, I think you have to be within 4lbs of their goal weight for you otherwise they won't send it along.
I'm totally going to try blending my own meat -- I figure if it can crush ice, it should be able to handle steak!
Thanks, for the info Shawn. Please, do try the blender it works beautifully. MIMI

Mei and everyone else,
I am doing better thank you. Even with falling off the wagon I've lost 3lbs and dropped a few more inches so life is good. :clapping3:
I have had to eat a bit extra food for the medication sake because it makes me so sick, but it is 1PD approved...and I only do it when i feel super sick and I hate having to do it but it's the only thing that keeps me from becoming super sick.
I hate taking medication especially when it makes me so sick but I have to do it for my migraines. :gurney:
My migraines are getting better, been seeing the Dr. and have an appt. with a neurologist next month so keeping my fingers crossed they can get me on a good regime for keeping my head from hurting.
I've read your posts and everyone is so great. I appreciate that you are all thinking of me I appreciate it, I think of you all often as well.
We truly are a great diet family here. :)
