Hi everyone! My name is Julie and today is my second day!!! So far so good! I live in a small town south of Portland, Oregon with my wonderful husband Brian and our two kids, Aaron, almost 6, and Hannah 2 1/2. I have been seriously overweight for a while now! I was born and raised in California and played volleyball 6 days a week and was always in great shape. I moved to Oregon when I was 23 and slowly the weight came on. I did real good losing weight for my wedding buy shortly after began gaining. I am sooo tired of being fat and am ready to do something for myself. My husband tells me all the time that I put everybody first so I have decided this is my time! I want my body back and am sooo ready to make so lifestyle changes. You all have inspired me for this last month and I am excited to be on this journey with you and get to know you!

I made it thru dinner. Tonite my husband came home late so I made the kids spaghetti and french bread. I had such a hard time but did not cheat!!! Oh the smellllll!!!!!! It is still lingering! I'm trying to suck down the water in hopes that it will curb my appitite! What have you been having for breakfast? I don't want to get bored! Yesterday and today I have been having 1 egg scrambled with green pepper.

Hi Julie, and welcome to the Cohen clan!!!! Congratulations on making the decision to become healthier and slimmer!!! We have a great group here, always ready to support you whenever and however you need it. Happy dieting!!

Oh, and for breakfast, I love the zucchini hashbrowns. I'm not much of a plain yogurt person, so I pretty much have the hashbrowns every morning.

See you in the threads!!

Welcome to day three poster girl and sexymama! Does this mean we are diet triplets??

Yes, drink water all day long. Anytime I had a twinge of hunger I slammed a full glass of ice cold water. I read that ice cold starts your metabolism, so first thing, have a full glass. Have a great day, and remember: YOU CAN DO IT! Blessings,

Sexymama,
I can't help you much with preparing meals. I am a very BORING :aint: cook!! I had cheese, crackers and cucumbers for breakfast. Then for lunch and dinner I have a salad with my protein thrown on top of it. I do add a little water to my meat and let simmer. It makes an awesome dressing for my salads. That is as exciting as it get here!!:party1:

Good morning Julie and welcome! I'm SO GLAD to see you hear. Your first post reminds me so much of how I felt before I started the diet. I was very active growing up as well - I was a dancer (tap, jazz, and ballet) nearly every day and after quitting dancing in my early 20's I started gaining. I too lost some weight for my wedding but afterward gained even more and more. Now I've taken charge of my life and my health and through this diet I have reached my goal and feel amazing!!! You can do it too!! How much do you want to lose? Be sure to create a ticker so we can watch your progress.

I must reiterate that this is the best diet ever. I have tried everything over the last 15 years and was actually about ready to give up, accept my body the way it was and try to love myself anyway. So glad I didn't go that route and that I found 1PD.

One pointer, when you are fixing dinner for your family (and I know you can't do this every meal or every night) but try your best to make them the same food that you are having. They, of course, don't have to measure their portions and you can make them a side of beans, bread, pasta if you want, but it'll help you if all you have to pass on is the one side and not the whole dinner. Plus - your family will benefit by the healthy food too.

P.S. and yes - what a SEXYMAMA you will be!!! My husband now says he's thrilled he's married to a M.I.L.F. (From American Pie)

Hi everyone! I have had one busy day and just wanted to check in and say hello! I know I'm not supposed to weigh in and yes I am a scale addict!!! This morning I was down 7lbs!! Monday will be my one week and my husband is going to hide my scale until week 4! Thank God!

lfingers11
i am boring too!!I have been eating the same boring stuff as you. I am going to try to change it up over the weekend. I will let you know if I find some simple choices we could do!

mei mei I think that does make us triples! I have been drinking tons of water especially when i feel hungry! I'm getting tired of going to the bathroom but I know this is helping!!

Gettingskinny
I am going to try the zucchini hashbrowns!! I have been doing 1 egg and some bell pepper. I has been good so far but i don't want to get burnt out!

Bronwyn -- I have been so busy I haven't had time to figure out my ticker but I plan to do this over the weekend. My starting weight is 232.5 --- WOW -- I have only fessed that up to my husband!! Hoooo! They suggested I weigh 144-150. I am 5'9 and 37 yrs old. I got back down to 155 for my wedding and would love to be 144 but I guess I have been over weight for so long I can't picture myself at that weight! I think I will have to see when I get down there!! It would be pretty cool!!!!!!

Thank you all so much for your support! I know I have come to the right place!!
I will check back in tomorrow. Off to bed!

Julie,
I have been on this for three weeks now and I did not realize until I read your post that I am not using the bathroom as much as the first two weeks. I mean I still go alot but for me it slowed down just a little.:party1:
They want me to get down to 120 and that will put me 15-20 pounds under my wedding weight. I thought I looked awesome at my wedding so I can't imagine being down to that weight. So I am totally looking better than my wedding day too.
Hope you are having a great week.

pumbza you crack me up! You are so right!! That is a great way to think of it! All day everytime I have to go to the bathroom I thought of what you said! Flushing the fat down the toilet!! I have had a few giggles! Thanks!

Pam -- I can't wait till my 3 weeks! R your clothes feeling loose?

Today was great! I was totally prepared and things went smooth. I do great when I'm at work and not around my family! Something about them makes me want to eat!!! Ugggggg!!!Dinner was hard. I worked until 5pm and didn't get home until 6 so I decided to make something quick for the family and ohhhhhh it was smelling good. I stuck to my thing though and it was great! I have to take it one day at a time. If I think about my final goal I get discouraged and I will have not of that!!I need to try some recipes from the recipe section that I can fix for my whole family. For sure this weekend!
Well I better go get Hannah to bed! Talk to you all tomorrow!

Welcome. I started on the 22nd and it does get easier. I also have a family I have to cook for and its hard. I never realized how much I taste when I cook or how much I will pick on my 14 month old son's leftovers till i could not anymore.
According to DR cohen I have about 60 or so lbs to lose but I would be thrilled losing 40 lbs. I know when you have a lot of weight to lose its overwhelming. Really try to focus on little goals. Like my first goal was to be in Onderland. We are all here for you and best of luck to you.

Pam,
I am a little confused. I was not given a target weight. I gave myself one. Should I e-mail my consultant and ask? I chose 120 also becasue that is my dream weight. I was 130 when I got married, but I am much healthier and stronger now. I go up and down a lot, and I know that isn't good for me. I'm ready for some stability in my weight and emotions. I can't wait to get there! I weighed in this mornign ans was up a half a pound, so I am wracking my brain as to why. I have been 100%. So I think I will drop the gum and the crackers. Trying not to feel bad, maybe it is the day 5 blues...:(

You should have received your target weight in the letter your consultant sent you with your diet. If you did not get it ask your consultant for it.

Hi Ladies,

Mei Mei - Yes - you should email your consultants for your target weight range. Also - keep in mind that you are only supposed to be weighing every 4 weeks for that very reason. Don't let that you're up .5 discourage you as that can lead to cheating. If you can't help it, then ask someone to hide the scale. Remember that as women our weight can fluctuate because we do tend to hold onto water weight, etc. much more so than men.

Rachel, Julie, and Ifingers11: When I received my target weight range (114-120) I thought Dr. Cohen was crazy. I weighed 110 when I graduated high school. I chose 120 as my target weight just cause I didn't even think I would need or want to get down to that. Turns out once I hit 120 it was pretty obvious I had a bit more so I changed it to 117. I started Refeed at 116.8 and ended up at 115!!! So, get ready girls!! You're going to look the best you've looked in many years if not ever!!

The range works this way: The higher weight should be chosen if you have a larger frame, and the smaller weight if you have a very small frame. If your frame is of medium build you would choose a weight somewhere in between. It does seem to be fairly accurate.

Mei Mei

Bronwyn,
I realized my problem. It is "girl" time. That explains the moodiness. I will e-mail my consultant, as I am curious to see what they say my target is. I chose 120 because I got ther two years ago while training for a triathalon. I just odn't have time to work out that much now. Anyway. I hid the scale myself :) I am neurotic about the scale. My hubby is out of town again, and will be alot this month. that's why I am relying on my diet buddies so much for support. Thanks for everything!
Blessings,
Mei Mei

Hi everyone! I'm so glad it's Saturday!! I had such a busy week with work but everything with my diet was great!

Rachel--your are so right! I never realized until I started how much I nibble off of my kids food. We are potty training Hannah and everytime she goes to the potty she gets a M&M. This is sooo terrible for me because I have had 2 this week! They are now in the cupboard and I have my son give her her reward! I just can't help it. Dinners are so hard but everynite I keep saying to myself "Think of the big picture!! I WILL BE A SEXY MAMA!

Mei Mei --
I agree with Rachel, they should have sent your goal weight. Have you heard from your consultant yet?

Brownyn --- I think I will go for the 144! It makes me smile to think of myself at that weight! WOW!!! I am only weighing myself this week and Monday my husband is putting away my scale. I will weigh again at the end of my 4 weeks! It will be hard but my clothes will tell me! :)

Sharma -- Congrats on your success!!! That is so wonderful! Keep up the good work and I will for sure will be here to get encouragement from you and the others! So far I'm down 8.5!! I hope I can do 20lb the first month! I am going to Hawaii with my family Sept. 26. I'm not setting a weight goal because I dont't want to get discouraged but I hope I look a heck of a lot better than I do now!!! Swimsuit --- ugggggg!

Thanks for listening everyone. I probably won't be back unitl sometime tomorrow!

Julie,
I am going to use that same strategy. Since this is my first week, I will continue to weigh myself, but put the scale away on Monday until August 28. So far the scale says I've lost 6 pounds. That makes me happy. I would love to lose 20 in a month. Way to go Sharma!

Mei Mei, I almost asked if it was that time of month for you, but as a woman I hate it when people go there right away just 'cause I'm cranky or something. Glad to hear that was the case and that explains everything. Be sure to let us know what weight range your consultants give you. I'm curious...

Rachel... Just a thought, but why not give your little girl a different type of reward other than food? Maybe a sticker board or choosing a new toy out of a bag (you can get a bunch of little cheap toys to choose from that she'd be thrilled with) or something along those lines. It might help her much later in life to not associate rewards with food.

Hi everyone!! What a great first week! It was better than I thought it was going to be. I have to say this weekend was the hardest! We took the kids to the Fair and I thought I was going to die with all the good smells!!! But ---- I did it. I was a little grouchy towards the end but I came home and had my dinner. Tuna lettuce wrap! Yeah for me!!! My mother in law even brought over a few brownies for the family and I had no desire to eat them!! My hubby even put a cute note on top of them for me to see this morning--"It's Not Worth It" !!!

So today is the end of day 6! This morning I was down 9.5lbs!!! Wow! Tomorrow is my last weigh in since I weighed exactly one week ago. I will be praying for that 1/2 lb!! Then my dear husband is going to hide my scale until August 25!! I can't wait!!

I am feeling so good and so inspired by all of you! This time around just feels different! Like it really is my time!!! I KNOW I WILL BE A SEXYMAMA!!!!

Julie

PS - - I have been giving Hannah stickers everytime she goes potty instead of M & M's!!!

Yeah, good for you resisting temptation. It was a great week. I know you can keep it up. I bet you will hit ten lost by morning. either way, what a great start! This doesn't feel like a diet as much as a life change. I am going the same route. I will hide my scale in the morning. Or at least I will make it a pain to get to so I won't weigh. I needed the incentive of the first week. My friend at church noticed that I had lost. That was fun for me. Keep it up.

I do have a question - - - It seems that I cannot have cheese when I have meat? Is this correct? I have not had any cheese yet because I figured the meat or fish would fill me up more.

I try to avoid the cheese for the same reason. Just once so far I had cottage cheese on a rice cake with kiwi. It was yummy but I find my eggs and veggies more filling. I just worked in Yogurt and when I tell you its so delicious. I get low fat greek yogurt which is super creamy. I take 1/2 apple some diet sprite and cinnamon and stick in the microwave for 3 min. Then I drain it and mix it with my yogurt Take one cracker and smash it and mix it with stevia and sprinkle it over the top. So delicious and does not feel like diet food at all.

I can't have my husband take it because he is leaving town for work, and won't be back until the beginning of Sept. Past my 4 week mark. So, I will have my big boys hide the batteries. I will let you know how they turn out. I don't think I have ever seen low fat greek yogurt. Is it by the regular yogurt?

Hey Mei Mei my husband took it today! Thank goodness! I am such a freak about it! That is great if your kids will take your batteries! Just think when your husband comes home he will be wowed!!!

Week 2 is going good! I really don't feel hungry at all! I am going to try to get a little more creative with the food. I want to make chicken stir fry but can't use soy sauce. Any ideas? Anyone??

Julie, I've done stir fry with LOTS of garlic (I'm Italian ... EVERYTHING has lots of garlic) and I used a dash or two of vinegar (I happened to use cider vinegar -- not the white stuff). I believe I seasoned with rosemary, onions, freshly ground pepper and a bit of salt. I didn't think it would be good, but it was. A lot of marinades call for vinegar too - which is why I tried it.

Yay! Congratulations on your weight loss so far, Sexymama, and I'm so proud of you for hiding your scale! That was really hard for me too, but it keeps me curious and I can't wait for the big surprise at the end of the month. I figure if I lost two pounds a week (and I know I'm losing way more than that), then at the end of four weeks, I would have lost eight pounds. So that's what I'm going to expect and I'll be pleasantly surprised when it's more than that. I just don't want to get my hopes up too much, thinking I lost 45lbs like Pumbza (hahaah! Just kidding--that's extreme!) and then be disappointed. :) Keep up the good work, ladies!

I eat my cheese, but not in the same meal as meat, of course. I love the low-fat mozzarella melted on vegetables. MMM!! It's actually quite filling too--especially if crackers are involved. Check out the garlic bread recipe under "Cracker ideas". That's excellent!!! I served it with some sauteed spinach & onion on the side. You're really creative with your foods, Rachel! Good for you! I'm more of a recipe-follower than a "chef". But I love all the recipes on the forum! I got so sick of making the same things over and over out of that recipe book they give us. :)

This is definitely more than a diet--it is a life change! You know how much we're thinking about what we're putting in our bodies and planning our meals right now? To a certain degree, we should plan meals for ourselves for the rest of our lives--not to such an extreme, of course, but really just paying attention to what we're doing so we don't end up having to do this diet again (like me). Nobody wants to do this again, right? :) Not me! I'm going to be really careful this time and I'm so happy to have you guys inspiring me along the way and afterwards!

Hi,
I cook alot with fresh grated ginger, Yesterday I had ginger and peach prawn stirfry, did the same in the evening with chicken (only had 1 peach as they are imported and expensive at the moment so made the most of it). We have tinned peaches which are in a sweetened water, so I'm hoping they will be ok in small amouts and uses them from my fruit allocation for such recipes, the sweetner is saccharin and its not on my list of allowables so I'm not using them as yet till I know for sure.

Sexymama
08-06-2008, 11:13 PM
Lauren you are so right! This is a lifestyle change!! I like cooking for myself but it is so much eaiser to just throw something together for the family. I am such a recipe follower and I go for easy!

Bronwyn thanks for easing my mind!! I love throwing tuna on my salad. I take the remaining and put my one tsp of mayo and have my crackers with tuna!

Sharon the ginger is a great idea. See I never think of things like that! That sounds good with chicken!! On the subject of peaches --- can I send you a peach tree to plant?? I bet they wouldn't do very well there? The only fruit I have been having is 1 apple, usually with my lunch, and in the evening a orange. It says we can have 3 servings of fruit.

I hope you all will say a prayer for me. I am going to my Dr. tomorrow. I have been having a problem for a few months with my heart. I'm sure it's nothing but sometimes at nite when I'm trying to go to sleep my heart starts racing! It's very weird, and yes I'm very realxed, not thinking of anything. The other nite it happened 3 times! Anyway, we will see and I appreciate the good thoughts!

Oh yeah and I made it thru another day without my scale!!! Uggggg!!! I guess I get to weigh in tomorrow at Dr!!! Yeahhh!

Julie, I will definitely say a prayer that everything goes well at your doctor appointment. My oldest daughter used to have problems with a racing heart. Hi Julie,

I do hope all goes well for you today at the doctor's office. I know that weight gain and a "racing heart" can at times be symptoms of a hypothyroid condition which is easily treatable with hormones. Best of luck, and know that we're here for you!

Hi everyone! My Dr. apt went good. She did say it was pretty normal. As a precaution I am picking up a heart rate monitor on Monday to wear for 48 hrs.

On another note my husband didn't hide the scale very well!! Of course found it right under my nose and hopped on this morning. Yes I'm a little frustrated --- I weighed the same as Monday. Tonite I am going to have him put it AWAY!!!!

Hope you all are having a good week!

Julie

Julie,
I am so glad that your doc appt went well. I had to do the 24 hour monitor for my blood pressure. It was a bit of a pain, but you will get through that also. :)

Thanks for the scale update. It makes me glad not to weigh myself. I know this diet works, but the sceptic in us has to test it against the scale don't we?
Blessings,

Mei Mei

Hey Sexy Mama
First off welcome to the forum. I saw your note about the racing heart. About 8 years ago I had that happen out of the blue. I could actually feel my heart slow, kinda clunk like, then kick into the very rapid beat. It went on ALL night long. Like you it started when I was in bed nodding off to sleep. I couldnt sleep cause it was racing so fast. I finally took 2 tylenol PM's and conked out, I guess those relaxed me so much that at some point it changed back to the normal beat. However, about three days later, it happened again and I headed to an urgent care center, then they sent my to the emergency room.

The ER doctor went thru a whole list of things that could be causing it all of which were negative for me (too much caffeine, cold medicines with caffeine, drugs, stress, thyroid etc). She said it is called Supraventricular Tachycardia and said that sometimes it will suddenly appear then disappear, for others it continues. In my case they suspected that it was a genetic thing, meaning that one of the nerve endings in the heart is defective and fires off "the wrong way" causing the heart to kick into that fast beat. They wanted me to go in to see a cardiologist that specializes in electrical studies (or something like that) on the heart. I had two episode and then nothing so never went in. I went for a long time with nothing, then I was working out at the gym a lot and would lose a TON, and I mean TON of water from sweating, and my electrolytes would get messed up, and guess what, I started having it again, apparently due to the calcium, magnesium, etc which helps regulate your heart beat. I would drink some Pedialyte and it would seem to stop the problem.

I still periodically will get it, but very infrequently. I was told they treat it by going in and cauterizing the nerve ending, so I said NO THANKS, Id rather deal with it when it happens, since its not very often. Anyway, just wanted to give you some heads up, and apparently lots of us have had it too. Take care.

Hi Nightshift, thanks for the encouragement. You must have started a week before me. Monday will be the start of my 3rd week. I'm loving it so far!! My husband didn't hide my scale very well and I hopped on today. Down 13.5!! :party8:Of course he noticed my delight and asked me if I found my scale - - uhhh NO -- he said since I hadn't been complaining about not weighing in I must have found it and has now REALLY hidden it!!

Mei Mei --- Oops!!! I told you I was addicted to that darn scale!!! {oops}

rbride05 - - I agree!! I wouldn't have it cauterized either!! Of course the day after I was at the Dr. I was telling my mom about all this. She told me that she and my grandmother have the same thing and not to worry about it! My Dr still wants me to wear a heart monitor for 48 hrs so I will do it just to see but I'm sure it's fine. This has been happening off and on for a few months and dosn't happen every nite. From what I hear it's pretty common.
Off the subject when did your start? Great job on the 24.5 lbs!! I bet you are feeling great!! {congrats}

Also yeah for me!! 100% OP today! Even went to the Aquarium with the family and brought my food!!! {wave}

Talk to you all soon!!

Hi everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was great! I did have one boo boo though! I knew I had melon on my list and so yesterday as one of my fruits I had watermelon! I had a strange feeling and looked at my list (after eating a small bowl) and it is not a melon on my list!!! How bad is this??? I am so mad! Tomorrow I am starting my forth week!! Can you believe it!! Don't I have to request for my blood test? Do I just email my consultant?

I also have a wonderful revelation!!! For at least a year or more every month before I "start" I get terrible migraines!! Usually lasting a day or two. Well, guess what??!! I started today and had not migraines! Not even a slight headache!! Not even cramps!!! I know this has to do with my hormones and the food I have been eating!! This for me is HUGE!!! I feel so great on this diet and know this is how I will eat forever!!!!

I also tried some new meals this weekend and have to say I LOVE the zucchini hashbrowns!!! I think it is now my favorite thing! I am going to try the melon sorbet this week.

Well, hope you all are doing good! Have a great evening!

And 10 out of 10 to Julie for taking that great advise!!! :clapping3:

To confirm canned tuna is 100% - simply drain and weigh your portion. Canned fruit however is a no-no for now…
