Rachel, you have your own answer! Bring the food. Even better. Prepare your meals in advance, or at least weigh and portion everything out in advance. If they're truly your friends, they'll be supportive of your desire to be a healthier, slimmer you. Plus, in a month or so, they're probably going to wish they were on the plan too! :)

Hi Rachel,
Shawn is absolutely right. Not only will you NOT look stupid bringing your own food, your friends will be amazed at your strength and willpower as you are able to stick to your plan while being away from home. And Shawn is also right - the better you look, the more your friends will be supportive and maybe even a bit jealous!!! Take you food, your scale, and plan ahead. I had a couple of trips away during my 1PD journey - even had to do an overnighter in Vegas - and managed to stay on plan so I know you can do this!! The fact that you'll be at a house with a kitchen is fabulous!!! The hardest for me was hotel rooms because you can't cook and have to eat pre-made salads, hard-boiled eggs, etc.

Hey Rachel, Don't worry about looking dumb, just focus on how shocked they will be when the see you a few months/weeks down the road!! They will be wishing they had brought their own 'healthy' food. The biggest challenge may be all the junk everyone else is eating, but stick to your guns, it will be worth it and you will be sooooo proud of yourself... And 'if' you should slip up.. get right back on the horse', so to speak. Its about progress not perfection and every hour is a chance to start fresh. (usually I would say each day is an opportunity to start fresh, but I can do a lot of damage when given free reign for a whole day.. lol.. ) Good luck, remember we are here for you!

{hi} there Rachel
Your wonderful Diet Buddies have given you the best advise… {goodjob}
If all else fails: remember this: you are on a doctor’s diet to balance your hormones… :nerd: your insulin levels were too high and any slight deviation can send them soaring again. Your serotonin levels were too low and any slight deviation can drop them again – leaving you feeling really down in the dumps cos insulin is your happy hormone... Your growth hormone levels were too low, meaning that you don’t burn fat effectively but that you are prone to storing fat… putting you at risk of a WHOLE BUNCH OF MEDICAL PROBLEMS… and we don't :noway: want that to happen...
If your friends thought you were diabetic, they would never ask you to eat chocolate... so...

You are 100% rght and I am going to really try hard to think like that. The friends we are visiting are old friends of my husband so more his friends than mine you know what I mean? My other thing is I think I have been on a million diets and I always tell everyone and get no results so I feel like a failure. So I did not want to tell anyone. My husband even said is this the new diet of the week when I told him about this diet. Although since then I told him this is it and he has to be supportive, and he is. He brought home roses yesterday to congratulate me on my first day. :) Have to love him.
Well with all that said I can't and won't fail so I will be bringing my food this weekend and avoiding wine. I just keep saying to myself when they are all hungover Sunday morning I will feel great.

{hi} there Rachel
YES YOU WILL!!! {goodjob} on focusing that thinking…
Besides, what is more important? A weekend with your hubby’s friends… or YOUR HEALTH!!!
Flowers after day 1? !! Come now, that man of yours is really standing behind you and he really wants you to do well! Do it for you and do it for him!
Keep working on your thinking: I CAN DO THIS! I WILL BE THIN!
Past diets DID NOT BALANCE YOUR HORMONES… So, THIS IS IT!!!
And, you cannot {noway} afford to mess it up by even smelling wrong foods… besides, you do not need food or alcohol to be happy and have fun…

Hi again Rachel,
First off - What a fabulous husband to give you flowers to show as a sign of support! That is so sweet!! Also, I can so relate to what you said about having been on a million other diets, not sticking to them or keeping the weight off, and feeling like a failure. When I started this diet I could tell that other people, my husband included, were skeptical of my ability to do this and for it to work. Well here I am 6 months later, 53 pounds thinner, and many sizes smaller. You CAN do this and you WILL! The best part of this diet is that is does work if you follow your plan 100%. You will find that most people are fascinated with the diet, the science behind it, and especially once you start seeing the results it will become everyone's favorite topic which is kind of cool for you. My husband now beams when telling other people of how proud he is of me and everyone else who seemed skeptical in the beginning was very supportive throughout and are also amazed and proud of me for what I accomplished.

Hey Bronwyn
Thanks for your words of wisdom.
I just took my son to the park and ran into one of my VERY overweight friends. I backed out of going for a moms night out to a fondue restraunt in a few weeks because there is no way I would be able to stay on program. So she asked me why and I told her. I told her I am sticking to this for 12 wks and I won't be drinking or eating bad stuff etc etc. So she said to me you need to find a diet you can drink on. (She really likes to drink)
So i said I don't think that exists and she said yes it does. I said really what diet and she Nutri System. She said she was on it for 3 months and lost 20 lbs. i
I know from experience because she is so overweight she might continue to lose weight but she will eventually hit the wall if she is heading to the pub every other night to tie one on.
So the laugh will be on her.

Ha! Boy you got that right Rachel! Good for you for passing on the girl's night out. It's so hard at first but the longer you go along here you'll see how worth it those sacrifices are! And YES - if she's going to continue her "cheats" whether allowed on her program or not - she will not change her lifestyle and will go back to her old ways (and weight). You are most certainly on the right path!

Ok I am so proud of myself. My friend emailed and said that we will hit the grocery store and liquor store this weekend for supplies. I emailed her back and said I am on a diet and I will not be drinking and bringing my own food. YEAY I put down a good foundation for not screwing up this weekend. I just planned my menu for the weekend and I am about to head out to the store and stock up on everything I need.
i will be so proud of myself if I get through this weekend!!!!!!!

You will be proud of yourself WHEN you make it through this weekend! You can do it and it will be worth it! It's hard at first but then people see you are serious and they will either be supportive or jealous (sometimes both). Either way, you are doing this for you and the ones you love, so screw everyone else! LOL! You can do it and we are with you! I can't wait to hear WHEN you have successfully made it through your first challenge! You go girl!

Thanks Surfer
It will keep me honest knowing someone is waiting for me to tell them I made it through the weekend. My husband and I were just talking and we have so much Cr#P coming up. Next week we have a wine tasting, then a birthday party and then a BBQ and that is all in one weekend. I feel like I should just wire my mouth shut. I am trying to put a plan together.
The Wine tasting is easy. You are probably saying why even go. I have to go because I had one about a month ago and my best friend is pregnant and I made her come even though she could not drink, and now she is having one ( even though she still can't drink ) and I can't say I won't be coming because I can't drink. So my plan. I am cutting up some kiwi and mango and I will be snacking on it that evening. ( OOOPS is it ok to mix fruit? If I have a 1/2 kiwi 1/2 mango?)
As far as the birthday party and the BBQ i have yet to figure that out. The party is the first birthday of a distant relative and I don't think i can walk in with my own food and say excuse me im cooking this. So I think i will eat lunch before I go stay for 2 hours and snack on my crackers and fruit on the way home ( 1 1/2 hr drive). As far as the BBQ. This is a work thing for my husband so once again I can't walk in with my own food so no clue what I will do with that one yet.
Any suggestions?

Hi Rachel,
I really think the best way to get through all this is to let people know what you are doing. You are on a Doctor prescribed diet to level out your hormones, lose weight, build a healthy lifestyle and generally get your life back. This seems like a pretty admirable and important quest. While others may have difficulty when they see that you are facing your problems and taking care of them (because it reminds them of their own problems that they haven't faced), they should at the very least respect your decision.
It is a bit awkward at first, telling people, but honestly 75% of the people I have told, haven't cared, another 20% are super supportive and want to know more, and maybe 5% rolled their eyes (that was before I lost 50 lbs, no eye rolling anymore). People around you will have to learn to live with your new lifestyle, even if it means you bring your own food along to social gatherings.
I have brought my own food to every social outing for the past four months. I've gone to countless restaurants, visited many people's houses, dinner parties, you name it. People have been surprisingly okay with. At the restaurants, no one cares, really. I was surprised by this, but they really don't. They bring me a plate and I empty my Tupperware on to my plate and enjoy my food with everyone else. No big deal.
I think people will be more understanding than you expect. The temptations can be challenging but it's much better when you can have your meals instead of just watching everyone else eat cake, hotdogs, etc.
You can do this! Just stick to plan!
And you better believe I'll be asking how it went, come Monday!

Rachel, I just went through my first weekend and I was SCARED TO DEATH, but really... it was pretty easy. We had a company picnic to go to, so I bagged up my lettuce and deer burger and off I went. Needless to say, I had people wanting to pay me for my deer burger, don't think so :dance:LOL Interestingly enough, I had people inquire about the diet I was on and seemed interested. So... if I can help one person out buy being strict to my diet, then that there is one more reason to continue the journey~
Best of Luck~ you can do it :party1::applause:

Hi Rachel,
We will all be holding you accountable for this weekend. As SurferGirl put it, WHEN you have gone through the whole weekend (not IF) 100% on plan we will all be here to cheer you on and give you kudos. I know you can do it because I've done it, SurferGirl has done it, Mrs. Peel has done it, Pumbza just spent a whole vacation doing it!!! You can do it too!!! I also agree with SurferGirl's assessment of other people's attitudes and reactions to your bringing your own food. Most people and restaurants are just fine with it. At first I was embarrassed and so were my co-workers (they didn't say, but I could tell) to bring my food to a restaurant, but as time went on and the fat melted away they wouldn't think of letting me cheat. They would tell everyone at the restaurant to leave me alone because I'm doing so well and they are all so proud of me. People are very understanding and most are interested in the diet too. Let's face it... In this day and age and in this country especially who isn't on a diet (or should be on a diet)!

Hi Brenda - Good for you making it through your first weekend and big event!! That is so hard to do in the beginning. You have a good point though. Half the time, especially the longer you're on the diet, you'll find that the food you brought is so much better than the food being served! My first weekend away after the diet I was so disappointed in the restaurant food, hotel food, etc. and found myself wishing I had brought my 1PD food with me! I had been so excited to be free and to be able to eat out and I was miserable about the quality (or lack thereof) of the food everywhere!

Truly Rachel - Knock it off. Your words are setting you up to fail and you are giving yourself an out with every "if" you are uttering. You WILL do this! You WILL NOT deviate this weekend. You simply must take the option of cheating off the table and you must realize that it is not an option. I know it isn't easy, but you've got to set your mind that you ARE going to do this NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

Bronwyn, crack that whip!!!!! ;) But she's right, Rachel. I believe in the power of positive thinking. You have got to get those negative thoughts far, far away for this weekend. One little cheat and you'll be saying, well, I've blown it now, may as well go all out. DON'T DO IT!!! DON'T GO THERE!!! You don't want to throw away all of your success so far. We will be here when you get back and we want to hear that you were 100% successful. Anything less is unacceptable. Just keep telling yourself that!!! Now, go enjoy your weekend and check back in with us on Monday for all your kudos for such a great job!!!

Wow tough crowd. I am feeling more confident than ever right now. I went to visit my mother " The Home Of Junk Food" and my aunts were over and they were all eating junk and even my baby was diving in on the action ( I don;t normall let him eat crap but he did) and I did not deviate at all. I knew this was going to happen so I brought a diet soda and peach with me and I was golden. That lets me know I WILL do great this weekend, plus Im scared if I don't Bronwym might come beat me up :wacky: Just kidding,
Ok im off to go pack my food for the morning. Have a great weekend everyone.

I know you can do this and I look forward to hearing about how proud of yourself you are come Monday morning! Each success makes you more and more powerful - you will love that feeling!!!

Well the food is all packed. I even packed one extra fruit just incase I really need it but I am sure I won't. It is very strange every meal today I could not finish as I am getting full very easily. I also only had two of my three fruits today. Which surprised me because I worked out I thought I would be starving but I am not. I also have a crazy amount of energy today. I was packing for our trip and I decided to clean out my walk in closet. My hubby thinks im crazy. He might be on to something. Have a great night,

Hi,
I hope that your trip goes well.
I went out of town for a week and I took my own food and also an electric skillet and cooked in my hotel room. It worked out really well. I pre cut cheese and took vegies and smy scals and eggs and pre weighed meat for meals and it worked great. Survived a whole week on vacation and stayed on diet. Have a great time and enjoy your self. You will make it work and your friends will be proud of you, my family was proud of me:)

Rachel its all ways difficult when people around you eat chunk food or just to much food and in the beginning it does look very difficult! But sticking to your food you will not crave to eat chunk food or any food for that matter and with the CRAVING gone its a matter of saying NO!!!I know for a fact the thing that keeps me going is that one starts to lose huge amounts of weight on a "Weigh Less Diet" I was on I was chuffed on losing 1Kg a week and everyone said good job here at DR COHEN we lose that in a day or two!The one thing I must say if one tends to break the DIET as the manuals say 1 Day laps equates to 1 Week of Dieting so stick in there YOU CAN DO IT!!!Ha Ha!:innocent4:An we DIET BUDDIES are all there to support YOU no more words like CAN'T its not in our vocabulary and AUNTIE BRONWYN is so right to crack the WHIP but she does it with LOVING care and encouragement BECAUSE she has been there and done it she has the T-SHIRT to show this as well!!!Have a marevoulous week-end and show them all YOU CAN DO IT!!!!Ha Ha!!!:innocent3:

It was hard but I am glad I did it. Today I went to an amusemnt park and that was even harder I think. I packed my lunch but I have to tell you I wanted to jump out the window when I was cutting up a grilled cheese sandwhich ( fav food in the world) for my son, and watching my other friends eat burgers and fries. Then they had a snack of popcorn and pretzels. Also two of my favorite foods.

That is the best medicine!!! Support!! Do you have any snacks left to have? Fruit or crackers or a diet soda? Something to make you feel like you're having a treat. If not, just keep reading and/or go to bed early. I did that sometimes. You don't have cravings while you sleep, although a lot of us have posted about having nightmares about cheating. We wake up so thankful we didn't really do it. I swear the consultants and diet buddies scare you so bad about cheating that they can haunt you in your dreams!!

Hi Rachel
Today has been difficult for me (it's only day 5). I'm visiting at my parents house and my grandmothers garden is in full. Corn, tomatoes, red beets, etc. Everyone is enjoying all the summer fare and it's just tough. I came to the web board to give myself some inspiration and read through your intro, it was great to see We all struggle with ALL of these same things and it does help me to read to curb hunger pangs and that little voice in my head that says "It's only.....". I keep thinking of why I started this process in the first day and let me tell you at day 5 I'm not there yet!
Anyway it was reassuring to know that someone else reads to avoid eating or just to stay on track. Thanks for that

I am going on my 4th wk and I tell you I still have days like this . I admire the people who say after a few days they don't have cravings. Well I am not one of those people. I am not starving or even hungry but I think I eat for different reasons. I am an emotional eater and a location eater. That is what I named it. Going to the movies triggers the popcorn craving, going to my mom's triggers the cookie craving etc etc. I associate every place with food its horrible. I hope through this journey I get past that.
Tomorrow I am having a playdate at my house and I had to by snacks today and most of what I got I got blueberry flavor as I am deathly allergic but I did get chocolate chip cookies and I have not had one nor will I but they are haunting me. I am so ready to just throw them out because they are driving me crazy.
LOL i don't know if this helped but I just want you to know I share your pain. Hang in there.

Rachel -
What smart thinking - getting things you don't like. I had company over last week - over night guest. And I made spaghetti sauce, marinated mushrooms, garlic bread - my brother-in-law was over - major Italian family. And, I even made the guys Vanilla Malts for dessert. The only hard part was the mushrooms, I NEVER ate bread or pasta before I met my DH - never. Probably why I chunked on the pounds after we married. Well, part of the reason only, I'm sure - LOL.
I think most overweight people are emotional/location eaters - and we're all on journey to figure out how to overcome that. I love this forum because we can share ideas - and your's have been great!
Hang in there!

Hi ALL I think the thing that gets me BIG TIME and I must get use to it is we sleep part of our life we work we play and we EAT FOOD as a BIG PART OF OUR LIFE!!Now we basically take a BIG CHUNK of OUR LIFE AND PUT IT ON HOLD it feels like a HUGE empty SPACE and I think even though we will eat more we will have to be selective about HOW we EAT we can still EAT but more HEALTHY and at the right TIMES and the RIGHT FOOD!!!We also have LEARNED what is BAD for US and HOW to KEEP the WEIGHT down so it is a CHOICE FAT OBESE WHALE or Slim Happy and HEALTHY NEW ME (No CHOICE!!).We can still snack and eat as long as its HEALTHY and every now and then we can fall off the BUS to feel HUMAN as long as we go back to being HEALTHY!!!Anyway that's how I feel and was a HUGE emotional EATER and now I haven't emotionally eaten for 50 days SO FAR!!Well done LADIES you are ALL QUEENS and YOU are really doing well - YOU CAN DO IT!!!Being Mom and Caterer and National GUIDE to theme PARKS YOU ladies are SPECTACULAR and I do SO ENVY YOUR RESOLVE!!!Have a SUPER SUCCESSFUL DAY!! :innocent3:

Rachel,
Brilliant idea! My problem is, the only thing I am allergic to is bees and cats. Don't usually crave either of those. I do crave blueberries though. It is so hard not to pop one into my mouth. They are in season, and my hubby and littlest love them!
How did the play date go?

{hi} there Rachel
I’m really glad that you discovered the reason behind your cravings ie: too much sweeteners and I hope that by cutting these back you will certainly experience less cravings!
I had to by snacks today and most of what I got I got blueberry flavor as I am deathly allergic
I thought your party idea was excellent :clapping3: {goodjob} – what a great idea to get foods you are allergic too!!! :clapping3: getting foods that are not your favorite will go a long way to help you indeed!
