Is onion powder and garlic powder ok to use when I cook my food? It looks like garlic can be used under the herb catergory but does the onion need to be used under the vegetable? How do you measure it when it is so small? I just want to make sure I am not making any mistakes:party1: Thanks.

Hi Pam, I don't have an official answer, but I suspect that regardless of how onion is ingested (diced, chopped, powdered) it must still be considered a vegetable. I actually never used onion powder or onion salt before staring this program but went out and bought some thinking I could flavor my food without the added vegetable weight by "considering" onion powder an herb. Then, upon reflection, I thought "What am I thinking? I'm taking a vegetable, drying it out, powderizing it and suddenly calling it an herb???? I'm not a magician, it's still a vegetable!" So now my onion powder sits in the spice rack and will likely never be used. So while not an "official" answer, at least you have my approach to thinking through the problem. :) Good luck! - Shawn

{hi} there lfingers11 & Shawn
Onion = a vegetable {goodjob} as such it needs to be weighed and has a rather strict limit on the diet ie: ONION (max 2 tablespoons / 20gr per day) which forms part of your Veggie allowance :crying:
Please do not use onion powder while being on the program, you may however use it when you have completed your Re-feeding Program, which for some is going to be just around the corner…

Would this have messed me up if I used onion powder under my veg's for the day? I will definately not use it anymore and instead only use the max of regular onions. I found some at our farmer's market this weekend that look so yummy. I am a stickler for the rules, I use to be a teacher before I stayed home with the boys. :innocent4:
I just want to confirm about the garlic powder too. I have organic that I have been using. Thanks.

{hi} there Garlic Girls
Garlic fresh / dried / powder is fine… (just not in oil)
Just remember, it’s a herb for flavoring, :noway: a vegetable ie: you cannot fry and eat a bowl full – besides: :praying: PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR NEIGHBOURS!!! {rofl}
PS: lfingers11 - it's a honest mistake that anyone can make, but thankfully it's in the past and you'll know better for the future...
