Hi everyone! I'm a newbie who started the program on June 13th (it was supposed to be the 6th, but I procrastinated), and have already lost 9 pounds!! :party1: A little about me: 62 year old female (just got in under the wire!!), married, living in Reno, Nevada (and a beautiful city it is). I'm sure I'll be posting more as time goes by.

Hi Helenteeples,
Good to have you aboard - I just started the week before last so it's good to have a few new beginners around who are having similar experiences and are at the same phase.
Living somewhere as hot as Nevada you must have no trouble getting through 2 litres of water a day!
Stay strong and keep us all up to date with your progress, won't you.

I heard about the program from some families who have been on the program for a while and look amazing! I decided that I'd like to try. I started at 185 and am targeted for 146, so I have a few pounds to go. Having never dieted before, it's a little tough, since I'm a milk drinker big time. But I still have my cottage cheese which I love and I'll see what happens.

Hi Gorda23,
I got my bloodtest results on 11 June and faxed them to Dr Cohen on 12 June. I got my diet menu on 16 June with a recommended start date of 20 June. Not sure if you faxed your results - snail mail might mean a longer response time.

{hi} there Helenteeples
So nice having you aboard – I do believe you will do very well on the program and look just as great as your friends do, please do keep us posted on your progress :flirt:
Always remember, this is for a limited time only - the closer you follow your eating plan, the better your results will be {wave} Look to the future, your goal weight is there just waiting for you!!!

I just started as well so I hope to get and give some encouragement along the way. I am so "non techy" that some of these things like smilies and icons and tickers really give me a hard time. So I will try ... just like I am trying to lose this horrible fat that has found a home on my body.
Sometimes I feel like an alien ... I see myself in the mirror and wonder what happened. And I get so excited over a new diet and expect great results ... and nothing happens. I do hope that this is not another one.
From all that I have been reading from you all it seems like this one will work. But I don't think that I can measure and be as pure as it requires not because I don't want to but because my schedule includes so many "events" where eating is involved. I can't take my own little lunch or breakfast or dinner ... I just have to make the best of what is presented. So far (one week) it hasn't been too difficult ... I approximate after having weighed the portions out and seen what it looked like in terms of ounces. There was only one event that was COMPLETELY off the program ... there were literally NO options that were healthy. So I picked stuff out the best I could and drank lots of water hoping that it would wash the bad stuff away!
Anyway, I'm glad you all are here for help ... and I'll try to be a help too as time goes on.

On the main Forum page, second topic from the top is "1st Personal Diet Tickers" - click on that and it will take you to the window where you can design your ticker and select a PIN for it. Once you've made your choices and saved them, you will be given the option of copying a link in HTML or BB code. Copy the BB code and then go to your Control Panel page. Select "Edit Signature" at the top left, and when the window appears, paste the BB code for your ticker into the box. Preview your signature to see that it works. From then on, when you update your ticker on the original link, the changes will automatically show up in your posts.
Easy!
irmikenz, welcome to the 1PD! I know you will succeed - it is an amazing system. BUT - you have to lose that word "can't" - as in, "I can't take my own little lunch or breakfast or dinner". Yes, you can, and you must if you are to succeed on the plan. There are a myriad of threads & posts on the Forum to help you deal with restaurants, event food, vacations, and just plain getting stuck away from home but needing to eat. Those who know and love you will be only too happy to help you cope - those who don't know you will also be helpful, but even if they aren't, who cares? YOU CAN DO IT. I have been on the plan since Dec. 18, 2007, and I have made it through the holidays, business trips, awards dinners, a wedding, and meetings in restaurants. I am less than 20 pounds from my goal weight and I feel terrific. I've lowered my blood sugar and my blood pressure, sped up my metabolism, my knees & feet no longer hurt, and I am wearing size 31 waist pants, down from 40!
I repeat, YOU CAN DO IT. But you have to set your mind to it.

Welcome Irmikenz! I agree with Mrs. Peel... you MUST stick to the plan at all times and there is always a way to do so. I also have been on business trip, gone out to business dinners, etc. and managed to stick to plan. The plan only works if you stick to it. Every time you deviate you set yourself back. We're here to give you ideas and support. If you've got a situation coming up that you aren't sure how to deal with, let us know so we can lend our advice and support ahead of time. You also need to put yourself first so if you're afraid of looking different, or hurting someone's feelings 'cause you're not eating their food, you'll need to move past that and just do what you need to do for YOU!! Most restaurants are happy to make minor changes to orders to accomodate your diet needs. Let's face it, people understand that people live on diets so you aren't going to appear "weird" or "rude" but you're going to appear as someone who has taken charge of her health and her life and is proud to be eating right! I know you can do this!

{hi} there Irmikenz
A very WARM WELCOME to you :bighug:
Mrs Peel & Bronwyn have given you excellent advise, and so I’m not even going to go there other than DITTO the above. {grouphug2}
One thing that I want to ask you specifically to do is to PLEASE get rid of your bathroom scale right away – pack it away or ask someone to keep it for you. We don’t want you being distracted by this – so, honor Dr Cohen’s advise and only weight yourself once every 4 weeks.
I’ll leave you with a quote from AZKAT – one of our successful DIET BUDDIES who always use to say: To be thin in body; must be thin in mind

If we can't drink milk, would almond milk be ok? I don't see nuts on the program.

{hi} there Helenteeples
{sorry} but you are not allowed to have almond milk or any milk while being on the program. Nuts are high in starch, you can eat them again after the Re-feeding Program in moderation, but you must follow the starch rule which says to only have starch once a day…
