I've been asked to post probably one of the WORST photos I've seen of myself (which prompted me to start this diet) along with more recent ones. So Let's see if this works (embarassing!!!!)

I'll have to try to get some "new" pictures of me because this one is still about 10 lbs back, but it's the latest I have. Maybe I'll smile in my next one to show how happy I am at losing all this weight! :)

August 4, 2008 -- Removed the old pics and updated with some new ones. First one is March 2008 at a conference. I was BIG. Believe it or not someone posted that photo on Facebook and I happened to find it and cringed. The second is a candid photo in April the day before I started the diet -- you can see me eating lasagna at my niece's birthday party in a shirt I bought at the conference. (Mind you it was supposed to be a fitted shirt and the guy at the store said "Maybe you need an XL" I was MORTIFIED). Other pictures are from me over the past two weeks. You can see my smirk ... not quite a smile, but deep down inside I'm really happy!

WOW Shawn!!! I love it though! You are adorable and what a difference from your before picture. Yes - a smile would be nice, but so glad you posted anyway. I'm waiting until I'm completely done withe refeed (should be done this Thursday) and then I'll try to post some before and after too. So.... When are you starting refeed my dear? I've lost 3 pounds since starting. It's GREAT!!

Thanks Shasha! To be honest, I couldn't have done it without this forum and all of you gals (well, mostly gals). The ideas, tips, tricks, advice and just positive energy that everyone puts out there REALLY helps get us through the tough days. And isn't that what life should really be about - helping others?! I can't wait to watch everyone reach their goal weights and start their refeed programs ... this program really works if we chose to give it a chance. I can't believe I dropped 53 lbs in just three months with NO EXERCISE. To me that's amazing. Of course, once I'm done with refeeding I'll be in the gym to tighten up a bit, but to lose that much weight on diet alone and to not feel hungry between meals.... AMAZING. We all can do this!!!

Your blue eyes just shine with good health and happiness. Hope the refeeding part of your plan is just as easy and rewarding for you. Hey, did you ever dream you'd have such a huge group of female groupies like you found on the 1PD Forum? Have fun and enjoy your new found physique and health.

Well, even I was a bit shy to say it… but, the :surf:Girl and other ladies have said it quiet right: You do look FABULOUS and very HOT indeed!!! Yes, it’s fantastic to see what gorgeous HUNKS and BABEs all of you are turning into – I’m so happy to be a part of this and to see all your fabulous transformations!

No matter how much you tell someone the diet works… there is nothing like actually watching it in action!!! Seeing lives change and watching a real live online hero drop 53 lbs in just three months is a wonderful testimony to the success of Dr Cohen’s 1st Personal Diet Program… {goodjob} and if you could do it – so can your friends, family and loved ones...!!!

Thanks everyone - it's so embarassing to receive all this attention, like MiMi's "stunning" That put such a big smile on my face along with everyone else's kind words ever since I first posted the photos. Over recent years I've gotten used to being the chubby unattractive guy - so this attention is a little overwhelming, but in a good way. You guys are great .. I'll try not to let it go to my head :)

Mei Mei, I'm totally happy that I lost this weight and that I didn't really deviate too much from the program (with the exception of one really small deviation maybe a week or so ago). I still have some loose stuff to work on and I guess that's what my gym membership is for!

Pumbza, thanks for the encouragement. Can't you see my smile? I guess it's more of a sarcastic smirk, but I was trying to "make love to the camera" as they say to all the models. LOL Seriously though, you're off to such a good start with the right attitude and such a big heart. I know you'll do fine and the three months will fly by. I feel like I just started the diet a few weeks ago!

Shasha, thanks for all that you do here for me and for everyone. We all appreciate it soooooo much! You are a beacon of hope, support, and confidence when we all really need it!

I found another photo of me taken the day before I started, so I posted it with the original post. I tried to find a smile photo as well. :)

Hey SHAWn loved that making LOVE to the CAMERA bit I was Rolling on the GROUND with laughter and when ever I have a picture taken I will definitely be smilling much more because of that analogy it was excellent the camera won't be the same(it will be like a elephant making love to the CAMERA the CAMERA will break!!Ha Ha!)A:innocent4:About the smiling bit I was pulling YOUR leg YOU are as YOU are I think Bronwyn or Bitten mentioned the smiling bit so I just climbed onto the BANDWAGON to tease YOU!!!Ha Ha!(Could Not resist it I am a Bit of a TEASE ask my KIDs I drive them MAD!!)Thanks for your kind words but one more question and I may have missed it somewhere how long does the REFEED go on is there a specific time frame or not!!!Have a SPECIAL DAY and YES YOU are STUNNING but in the MALE sense NOT the FEMALE sense!!Ha Ha!!!:innocent3:

SPDeRosa
08-05-2008, 07:20 AM
Pumbza -- lol --- I know you were teasing :) I thought it was funny. Refeed is a 30 day plan. However, depending upon your bloodwork, Dr. Cohen might tell you to skip some days. So for me, I don't start Refeed on "Day 1" of the plan, I start on "Day 3" of the plan. Then I continue the plan until Day 10 which I skip. I do day 11, skip days 12 and 13 etc. So out of the total 30 days, it looks like I only have to do 18 of them.

Then there are some rules that you have to follow as I have to now weigh myself every day. If I gain 2 lbs (1kg) I have to go back and redo my last two days. The book says it best: "Re-feeding ends when you have reached the last day of the program, or if you had to go back and repeat the same 2 days more than once. (Example: You gained 3 lbs (1.3 Kg) by Day 16 and went back to Day 14. When you reach Day 16 again, you notice that you again gained 3 lbs (1.3 Kg) — meaning that this is the maximum your body can tolerate without going up in weight. Therefore, your Re-feeding ends here. Just note the quantities you have consumed, as these will be your limit."

I'm so excited to be starting ... can I tell you that last night I was a little bummed by my weigh-in yesterday. I was 156.4 and I thought there would be no way that when I weighed in this morning that I'd be down to 155 lbs. I seem to lose 2lbs or 3 lbs a week, so most certainly 1.4 lbs overnight would be impossible. Well, when I got on the scale this morning it read 154.9 lbs!!!!! I've since stepped on and off on four occasions and it seems to be sticking at that weight. So I don't know what happened to cause me to lose that much overnight, but I'm taking it as a great sign and more importantly it helped me reach my goal of 155 lbs even though my lower weight has never been my true goal. My true goal was to just get thin - the actual number didn't really matter to me. :)

I'll start a new thread under My Progress about my refeed. Not sure if it'll be as detailed as Maya's, but we'll see how it goes!

I just love the new photo with you smiling in the navy blue shirt – please DO NOT delete this one!!! It really shows off your smile and your gorgeous blue eyes!!!

When looking at your photo’s I ended up laughing cos I remembered your 1st post on the Forum back in April with the ‘OH NO’ green pepper and egg breakfast – your first ever Cohen meal, which you ended up stir-frying… I still smile when I think of that!!! It was incredibly funny {rofl}

Yes, you are bound to get a lot more attention now… life is just like that… so, just smile and enjoy the compliment… although sometimes it can get a bit embarrassing…

I’m curious to know: when last have you seen your family??? I look forward to reading your Re-feeding thread… so long as you promise not to leave when you’re done Re-feeding… Like Bronwyn, I really want you to stay… {cheerleader} that way we can all keep an eye on you and you’ll remain both focused and accountable and a very big source of value to the Forum… is that a deal???

Hi SHAWn thanks for that input and I agree I think YOU should start a NEW thread on REFEED because it sounds so DAM confusing and maybe if we get ur insight we will know exactly what to do when and HOW and we may all be successful would that not be GREAT!!!I am still DIGESTING ur message(as there is so little Food Around!!Ha Ha!!:innocent4:) and will have to do a reread a couple of times BECAUSE I AM THICK AS A BRICK!!!Ha Ha!You had me in stich's rolling on the FLOOR laughing I actually laughed out LOUDLY about your bit about losing some more weight so quickly and you getting on the scale 4 times to check!!!Ha Ha!I have a reason why and please if you are sqeemach don't LOOK now as this is a FAMILY site but could it be that YOU went TO the TOILET the NIGHT before you LOST weight I know I DROP a Kilo or SO after a visit to the TOILET and I am not being FUNNY but SERIOUS and I know its NOT a TOPIC to be discussing in PUBLIC but I do apologise in advance sorry LADIES!!!The REASON I am asking its a bit of a boring story I don't know if YOU wan't to hear it I sound like a AGONY AUNT but I had a head on Colision in 1991 and My Hip Bone Became Seperated FROM my Thigh Bone (I know there is a song somewhere there Shasha!!Ha Ha!) and the BallJOINT cup on the Hip BONE was BROKEN and they put it together with some aliminuim SCREWS!!Thats all well and fine but over the YEARS SPURS (Pieces OF Bone) have grown out all over the Joint that was FINE while I was FAT and Round LIKE a BALL but as I get thinner I am starting to FEEL the SPURS protruding into my Muscles and its getting QUITE SORE to sit I must get a PILLOW now!!Ha Ha!!So i wan't to organise a operation to clear all this UP but I was scared to when I was OBESE because I was worried I would DIE on the TABLE (A REAL THREAT!!!) so I held of and what I wan't to dod is organise a operation when I finish REFEED which now looks could be up to 30 DAYS or so!!!I want to Book this so I can sort things out as soon as possible!!Ha Ha!!!Sorry for waffling on have a GOOD day!!!:innocent3:

Pumbza, your posts are always fascinating and funny to read (and scary too, goodness gracious, a head on collison?? So glad you walked away from that with "only" the hip problem, and I hope your upcoming repair job is a great success)

Pumbza, Ive gotta say that your banter back and forth with Shawn about his "making love to the camera" and your future picture taking CRACKED ME UP, especially the elephant stuff, your way too funny for words sir.

Shawn, call me crazy, but I dont think you looked so bad in the picture of you with the navy striped fitted shirt on. Yes, yes You look great now and incredibly trim and what's important is, that your much happier with yourself now internally, but just so you know that, your didnt look obese in that photo by any means. Keep up the good work on ReFeed, and keep those cover model photos coming. Ok, here I am after refeed in some of my new clothes from my amazing shopping spree (the one where I SAVED over $990!). I know I'm not smiling much and the photos aren't great - but it shows what I look like now 1 week after refeed! I'm still getting the "Have you been sick?" question, so I'm hoping that I don't actually look ill but rather that the question stems just from the rapid weight loss.

Feel free to let me know what you think. I'm happy to add on some weight if you think it's needed. :)

Shawn you look SO GOOD!!! I agree that you do not look sick or like you need to gain weight. I know you want to bulk up a bit w/working out-weight training so that'll happen when you can do it. I'm so happy for you Mr. GQ!

Phyllis, you are right about tucking in. I actually prefer to tuck my shirts in now as it actually looks better than when I don't! Honestly... It had been a long, long, long, long...long time since I had been able to tuck in, let alone prefer that look on my body! You'll get there!!

SPDeRosa
09-06-2008, 09:20 PM
:jumping2: Thank you ladies ... and Pumbza-lite. :)

I'm not sure I agree with the high ratings, but it's always been a challenge for me to hear that I look good ... I'm just not used to it. I'm just REALLY happy to hear that I don't look sickly. Earlier people were telling me I looked gaunt (too thin), so that was a worry.

Phyllis, you're so right about the shirt! I can't believe someone picked up on that!!! Although the "style" now is to have shirts untucked, I actually never did it for style but rather it just looked better on my chubby belly. On Tuesday this week I wore a shirt tucked in and I've actually started looking for more fitted shirts. LOL I have never had the body for a fitted shirt -- well maybe when I was 19, but that was almost 20 years ago. I'll try to get a "tucked in" photo sometime soon. Have a lot of shirts to show off from that shopping spree!

And you ladies are right - I need to start lifting again. Maybe I'll see what's on sale tomorrow and go buy "gym clothes". Seeing as none of my clothes fit I have to actually buy stuff just to do basic things -- like a new bathing suit, new gym shorts and tshirt etc.

Thanks again for all your kind words.

Shawn,
You are doing great; keep it up!

I have a refeed question. Once we sort of 'peak' on the refeed, that is, reach the highest amount without gaining weight, is that about what we should be eating for meals when we finish?
Also, you mention fruit as a snack. Are you eating only one piece a day? I'm a bit heartbroken about nuts. I didn't even consider that they have carbs...
Mary

SPDeRosa
09-10-2008, 04:04 PM
Mary, my understanding is that when you finish refeed, that should be about the amounts you eat from now on. I know I've added in a bit here and there, for example two eggs in the morning instead of just one, but as long as there's no weight gain, I don't see it as a bad thing. What I'm learning is that a lot of what we think of as "healthy" is simply "not as bad" as other choices. Nuts are good for you in certain limited quantities. Too many could be bad. I guess it's still the rule "everything in moderation".

Fruits - vary. I REALLY like having a banana/strawberry smoothie/sorbet (depending on how it comes out) for dessert. So that alone gives me two fruit servings. I'll occasionally have an apple or an orange. My goal is to have 3 servings of fruit as a minimum .... I think they suggest only one per day, but that seems below the recommendations of most nutrition experts. I'm reading elsewhere that women over 31 years should have about 1 1/2 cups of fruit per day and men should have about 2 cups of fruit. So I think that one fruit won't be enough. I suppose it will depend on the person.

I'll work on getting photos in my old clothes next ... I have a bunch to donate, so before I get rid of them I'll see about taking a few photos.

Thanks Pinked! That made me chuckle, I IMMEDIATELY thought of Lauren and her Avatar which I totally didn't even think was really her!

So I figured I should post some after-holiday photos as I started gaining some weight after Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's etc. So here we go - some random self-pics courtesy of the new camera. :)

From November 1st (Before Thanksgiving): myself with my cousin (whose arms are wrapped around me --- I edited her out as I didn't ask her if I could post her photo online)

Then some random photos of me in my messy living room.

Sorry they're so large --- I'd edit them down for size but I have to get some work done.
