Hi Everyone!
Here is a question I sent to my consultant:
"If we use raw garlic you know, like cloves of garlic do we have to weigh them. I have been weighing fresh cilantro, but wasn't sure about garlic."
This was her answer:
"You may use herbs and garlic, salt and pepper in moderation to flavor your food while you are on diet.
Herbs and garlic do not fall under your vegetable allowance. These are condiments and herbs."
I am taking this to mean I DON'T have to weigh my cilantro anymore. Just thought I would share this info and see if anyone had any thoughts as to my misinterpretation of her answer!
I hope everyone is well and doing great on their journey today!

hi katra-
i do not weigh mine if it is a clove or a sprig.
but if i were to use a bunch to make a salsa or a head, i would weigh...
does that make sense?

Hm...but they told me that garlic can be used as long as it is measured as part of veggies????

{hi} there Katra
I believe your understanding is spot on, because this is my understanding as well.
Garlic is not listed under veggies, but with herbs :clover: on page 16 of your New Customer Guide where it says the following:
Condiments & Herbs: :clover:
You may use natural spices/herbs only.
BLACK PEPPER
CURRY (without starch)
MUSTARD (powder only)
VINEGAR (balsamic vinegar)
GARLIC
ALL HERBS (basil, rosemary, oregano, and the like)
CINNAMON
GINGER
CLOVES
SALT (only limited amounts)
VINEGAR (apple, balsamic or white)
Condiments and herbs may be used in moderation to flavor your foods - not to eat as food. You don't need to weigh any of these, only to exercise moderation, so why would you need to weigh the garlic?
FYI: You should try to limit balsamic vinegar to no more than 2 tablespoons per day, which is already quiet a lot - I recommend using a spray bottle as this will cover more salad area with less vinegar...

I was curious about the garlic and what does limited amounts mean. I use a clove when I make a spinach dish? So I just wanted to be extra careful. I was especially concerned about fresh herbs like cilantro that do weigh and kind of look like lettuce, LOL and I had been weighing fresh cilantro, but now I won't.
I never ever use vinegar because it sends me into a coughing fit, I don't know why, but it does, so if I have a salad and want dressing I have to waste a fruit lemon or lime and so I haven't been doing that. I suppose I could use a salsa, but it isn't worth it to me at this point!
Thanks for your responses and help!
It is always appreciated!

{hi} there Katra
A clove of garlic, or even two a day would be fine to use while you are on diet...
I do have another salad dressing recipe for you to try that is not just vinegar:
200 ml plain white vinegar
500 ml water
Sweetener to taste
½ teaspoon salt
Chop up nice fresh herbs – for example fennel, basil, thyme, rosemary etc - you can also use dried plain herbs (remember no msg and starch additives)… You may add mixes of the following: Sweet Basil, Parsley, Thyme, Mixed Herbs, a bit of Mint…
Just in case you like a creamy dressing: take 20 ml of the above and mix with your 5 ml of diet mayonnaise. You may add balsamic vinegar to the above to make a sauce to pour over your stir-fry while cooking - the balsamic helps to make your food brown and it will taste different when you mix it with the salad dressing recipe.
Hope these little tips help :hungry: Bon appetite! :P

Hi Katra - I've been making a 'honey mustard' type dressing that turns out pretty well -
1 tsp lite mayo
mustard powder - about 1/4 tsp
sweetener, 1-2 packets depending on how sweet you like things
salt
pepper
onion powder - just a sprinkle
water - 1 tsp
I use a few drops of white balsamic vinegar too, but you can leave it out if you like
hope this helps. (=

For sure use the spray bottle ladies. Since I have eaten all my meals as a chef salad since the start, I didn't figure this out until about 3 weeks ago. I believe the trouble I've had with my blood tests being off have been due to too much balsamic vinegar! I've got it straight now and the results the past three weeks have been as good or any in my first month.
I just use balsamic vinegar, water (half and half about) and some splenda. I"m not at all creative although I have a ton of herbs from my garden I use as well. :)
Spray it on!!!

{hi} there Everyone
{grouphug1}
Iisrias: I hope you don't mind, but I copied your recipe post into the CONDIMENTS & SAUCES IDEAS so that all the Diet Buddies will see it because it sounds really nice.
Lesley: Do you soak the herbs in the vinegar or just chop them over? I love herbs too and grow them as well :flirt: Which ones do you have and what do you like to use them on?

Hi Everyone!
I wanted to stop by and say Thank you for all these marvelous Ideas. I have been sticking to cooked spinach and green peppers and zucchini, as my vegetable options and I am very satisfied! I have copied your suggestions and will add them into my growing recipe collection!
Thank you all!
:)
