Hey.
This is day three and I am encouraged by all of the messages / comments I have been reading. I so want to get rid of this excess baggage and move on to a healthier me. I don't want to gauge a room of women by checking the group to see if I am the heaviest.
I am committed to the program and will see it through. However, I have always looked forward to Wednesday night summer golf league and Saturday date night with my husband and a few glasses of Chardonnay. Has anyone else felt deprived? And, how did you deal with it?
Don't misunderstand... I am going to see it through. I am just wanting some advice from those of you who have "been there done that." You are all my inspiration!

Good morning Dunkadora and welcome!! I too enjoy a nice glass of wine or a cocktail a couple of times a week (well I did up until 16 weeks ago!) and I thought I would have a real problem with not being able to indulge here and there. Honestly, this diet works so well that it makes everything else seem so insignificant and unimportant compared to how good you look and feel. I have now attended happy hours, parties, dinners out, and even an overnight trip to Vegas and haven't had a drop or even cheated at all. It will be hardest at first - especially this first week - but as time goes on it just gets easier and easier. Part of it is also the chemistry in your body working in your favor eliminating the physical cravings for those bad things. There is always the desire to deal with, but again, knowing that if you deviate it can set you back for at least one week or more makes it entirely not worth it. Day three is probably the hardest of all.

When you do go out, substitute a diet soda for your "fun" drink, or Iced Tea. You really just need to get in the mindset that you can still have fun without having the naughty foods and drinks that we associate with fun.

We're here if you need good ideas and/or help! Glad to see you on the board.

hey there dunkadora-

i love my wine. i am a sauv blanc/champers/prosecco/cava/sanceere fiend.
BUT, i do not really miss it. i have a lovely posh black tie wedding this coming weekend at that will be hard. all that passed vintage champagne and special wines with each course, etc
alcohol is just is not part of my life at the moment. when i drink i lose my ability to curb my hunger or desire for off plan items.
i have been on the wagon for months at a time to lose weight or have babies and it is no problem. yes, i miss it. but my drinking has also led to me gaining 75 lbs that i lost in 2005. alcohol affects your body like sugar, so your insulin goes nuts and you get hungry.
i know i will have my wine again.
right now i order pellagrino and lime and pretend it is a gin & tonic.
i want to be slim more then i want to drink....
i am sure you do to.
also, if you do lapse and drink on cohens you will be a very sick drunkadora!!! LOL!

Hi Dunkadora,

I know the first week is brutal. There is so much change, and so much to get used to. And, at first the amount of food seems ridiculous and unsatisfying. I spent my first week thinking longingly of my birthday(when I decided I would have a cheat day). I couldn't get it out of my head that it would be weeks before I would be able to have anything that I really love to eat.

That was four weeks ago now, and all that has changed entirely! Now I am feeling so good about my body and that I'm finally heading in the right direction, that I don't have much interest in any of that food. I have decided that on my birthday, I would feel a lot better going out and buying myself a new outfit than taking any steps backwards on this diet.

Truly, these feelings will go away! You will start seeing the changes you are making towards a healthier (and hotter:cloud9:) you. The importance of the wine and other treats will diminish. The food you are eating will feel more satisfying and instead the amount others are eating seems ridiculous.

Just keep strong through these next few days and keep faith that all those feelings will be gone soon! And they will be replaced by joy, and pride. You can do this and we are all here rooting for you.:clapping3:

Thanks for the enlightenment, ladies. I am done with the pity mode. Your comments brought me back to reality that alcohol does heighten my appetite and I would trade thin for a glass of Chardonnay any day of the week. I am going to love the support that this program affords.

Have a GREAT week!
