I am finding something interesting as I go down in size. For some reason, over the years, I kept alot of my smaller jeans and have alot of size 14 stuff from 13-15+ years ago. At our local Kohl's store, I am currently in their size 12 dress pants and jeans. In my drawers of older clothes, not all of my size 14's are fitting yet! How's that for a shift to larger sizes and women might not realize they are growing.... Anybody else a pack rat and finding the same thing as we work back the years of clothing?

Yes, the garment industry has gradually changed the standards for sizing so as to make women feel better. You can see the changes most easily if you read the measurements on current and vintage sewing patterns. Sizes "0" and "2" didn't even used to exist in non-petite clothing!

Yes, last year, I took my daughter shopping, who normally wore a size 5, and we were buying 0's and 2's for her - I thought it was really bizarre. But Mrs. Peel is right, probably the industry's attempt to make us feel better and want to shop more. :)

{hi} there Everyone
While reading your posts I'm thinking  to myself, it's all just about making money... sigh, talk about making sneaky sales!
If a customer goes into the shop and the size 4 or 6 doesn't fit, she will probably be motivated to go home empty handed and go straight on diet. Now the potential customer is over the moon because look, she must be getting smaller - which no doubt puts her into a great mood and she then feels happy to spend money - result: they get the sales and she feel great...
This reminds me of food producers who add sugar even into non-sweet food products to make them more addictive only so you can want more and more and buy more and more. (Unrefined sugar is extremely addictive as it stimulates the same pleasure pathways in the brain that hard drugs like heroine and cocaine do.)
Thankfully our Diet Buddies on the 1st Personal Diet Forum are really smart and they've long since caught onto all these sneaky selling tricks :applause:

I learned this several years ago and I am a big saver of old jeans and I noticed the difference. What scares me is the idea that I was wearing size 18 before I started this diet, so I can't even imagine what size I would be in by older standards. Yikes. Lane Bryant has done something really interesting with their sizing where larger women can be in single digits and it goes by a number and body type. I felt very good going there in the summer last year and fitting into the smallest number they had, they also use color coding for body type. Ingenious!
