I just got my blood tests back and my serum glucose is flagged high! I have been following this program 100% and I don't know what to do!!! I feel sick about it. I got the checklist from Dr. Cohen and I can't find anything that I am doing wrong. My work and living schedule is very different then most people and I am wondering if that has something to do with it. :( I have been very careful to keep the 5 hours minimum between meals though with my official snacks in between. I"m so depressed right now about it! (not enough to go off the diet though so no worries there!)

I'm waiting to hear back from the consultants again about it but I don't know what can send my serum glucose up like that. It's showing 111 and normal range is listed at 65-99. What is going on, does anyone have any ideas? I have started walking with my mom as the weather has gotton nicer, can that have triggered some process?

I also just compared this most recent blood test to my original test. The original test showed my blood glucose levels at only 95 - within normal ranges and NOW after 12 weeks of dieting, it is gone High? What is happening here?

{hi} there Lesley

{oops} {sorry} that is not nice :crying:

Please do let us know what your consultant or Dr Cohen said about this.

The exercises with your Mom should not have an impact like this.

For blood sugar to go up like that I wonder if you didn’t perhaps have something with hidden sugar like medication prior to go for your blood test? If you took cough syrup for example and this will send up the glucose levels. Do you remember anything like that?

Also, remember that your first blood test was done fasting. Did you do a fasting glucose blood test again? Or did you eat prior to going for your blood test?

I thought the first blood test was the only one I had to fast for? I did not fast prior to this blood test and I have the yogurt/fruit combination before hand... :( let me tell my consultants about not fasting.

LesKiya, the first blood test is the only one you have to fast for. Fasting for the second blood test is not required. I think Shasha was just trying to pick your brain to see what you had that morning prior to the blood test, to see if maybe that may have triggered the high level. I didn't fast for my second blood test and didn't experience any problems. I would talk to my consultant about my concerns and just see what they say. Good luck!!

{hi} there LesKiya

BINGO!!! THAT'S IT! I'm 99.5 % sure... you've just found the problem. {bighug}

Most Dieters don't repeat the fasting glucose blood test, they only go for the repeat Kidney Function Blood test. The Kidney Function Blood test is usually all that Dr Cohen requires to monitor your progress and so there is usually no reason to fast before the follow up blood test.

I'm guessing you decided to do the Glucose test just to monitor your own progress?

Fasting Glucose is only required in the very first blood test. If you did a fasting glucose test but ate before the time, your blood sugar will be  HIGH!!!

FYI: fasting or not fasting does not make a difference to a Kidney Function test or even to a Liver Function test, it is only important if you are doing a GLUCOSE test.

Did the Lab know that you were not fasting? If not, the range for fasting glucose is lower than the range for non fasting glucose.

If you added in a fasting blood test request and did not fast: BINGO! The results will be out because of eating before the time...

{cheerleader} Please keep us posted and let's see what your Consultant says...

My blood test results look like the same report as my first one so I guess it was a fasting glucose test. I dont know what I clicked on to get that but something :) Anyhow, I dont know if the sugar is why the doctor feels I'm not totally following the program but I hope mystery is solved. :)

{hi} there LesKiya

All is well that ends well... :flirt:

For extra safety, I'd like to recommend that you please read through the Check List you've been sent to make double sure you are following everything 100%... taking a moment to do this can't hurt...

I'm looking forward to seeing your continued success in the coming weeks {cheerleader} you've already done so well!! :bighug:
