{hi} there Mrs Peel
Mmmm – mustard for a little ZIP you say? Mmmm ...
How about a little ZIPPY SEAFOOD DELIGHT ???:

Arrange on top of salad greens – cucumber, green pepper, tomato, lettuce – shredded and chopped.
Dressing: 1 teaspoon low fat mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons white vinegar, ½ teaspoon mustard powder (for a little ZIP), sweetener, fresh or dried herbs. Mix together and pour over salad.
ENJOY!!! {cheerleader}

CRUMBED WHITING & VEGGIE CHIPS:
Fresh Cape Whiting Fillets- or any fish you prefer from your allowance
2 Crisp breads
Dried Dill :clover:
Cooking spray
Fresh Asparagus (before weighing- see note below)
Baby marrow
1tsp low fat Mayonnaise
Juice of ½ lemon- (allowance)
Salt and Pepper
Method: :flirt:
Process crisp bread until they are fine crumbs & place in bowl. Sprinkle dried dill over crumbs and mix through.
Fill another bowl with water. Dip fish fillets into water and then roll them in the crumbs (the water helps the Crumbs to adhere to the fish).
Holding the ends of each Asparagus spear, bend until it snaps. Discard the ends and reserve the tips (often the ends become stringy when cooked). Chop the tips into ‘chip’ sized pieces. Slice the baby marrow into ‘chips’ by cutting lengthways.
Cook fish and veggie chips in a frying pan sprayed with a little oil over medium heat. When almost done (this does not take long), sprinkle lemon juice over fish and veggies.
Serve with mayonnaise and extra lemon juice if desired. Don’t forget to count lemon juice as part of fruit allowance! Season with salt & pepper and enjoy! :D

Shasha, Sweeney Todd was a barber in England (fictional, though some historians believe he's based in truth) who murdered his clients for their valuables and his lover, Mrs. Lovett, disposed of the bodies by using them in her famous meat pies. Now if that doesn't keep us on a diet, nothing will!
(you scared me with that "baby marrow"!)

On the diet guide, Dr. Cohen wrote:
Do not buy ground beef off the shelf, as it is often not pure and contains fats. If you want ground beef, select a lean steak with no fat, and ask the butcher to mince it for you.
In the life after the diet, I decided not to eat food containing ground / minced meat such as meat pie or meat-lovers-pizza. (lets no go to Sweeney Todd again) {noway}
The only ground / minced beef I buy is the 93% fat free meat pack I buy at my trusted butcher shop where I can watch the butcher preparing these meat packs.
I use these meat packs to make hamburger patties that my hubby grills for the family.{pot}

Does anybody know a recipe that uses crab? Crab cakes? I assume the fish allowance is the weight of the crab meat not the shell.
Shasha
02-11-2008, 10:38 AM
{hi} there AmyLynn
I think crab in a mixed salad with 5 ml of mayo mixed with salad dressing made from herbs, vinegar, sweetener and water will be lovely.
To answer your question: please note that you only weight the meat you eat, so the shell does not form part of this. :hungry:

I am not a big fish eater, but I do need some variety in my life so my husband picked up some fresh tilapia. First of all, it is a very inexpensive fish (like $4.99 lb here anyway - Tampa Bay, FL), it is farm raised and a very low mercury fish as well. about a pound is 4-5 filets. This fish is white and flaky when cooked and is fabulous with asparagus! we get it at the fish counter in our local supermarket (publix) and ask for the freshest they have.
Heat pan. Spray with olive oil spray. Add 2 cloves crushed garlic, then add fillet. Let it sear and once cooked, turn over. I stir fry the asparagus so that it is fresh, but cooked by adding it to the pan as well. It also picks up the fresh garlic (yum!).
I do add a squeeze of fresh lemon (and deduct from my fruit allowance) and add a dash of salt to all. :party1:
Takes less than 15 minutes to make and even my kids will eat it!
Also as an added alternative, take 2 saltines and crush them to crumbs, lay the raw fillet in the crumbs, then turn over to ensure that whole fillet is covered. Follow instructions as above and voila! you have breaded tilapia and it is fresh and yummy!

Yummmmmmmm! I had tilapia for dinner tonight! (Great minds think alike?) :eyebrow: I cook mine the same way you do, but sometimes add some dill - then after removing the fish from the pan, add a little water to get the goodies off the bottom of the pan, let it reduce, and you've got a delicious sauce to pour over the top!
MrsPeel
03-15-2008, 02:39 AM
Great recipes, you two! MrPeel and I are quite fond of tilapia, too, although it is more expensive here in L.A.
Just as quick & easy is my version:
Preheat oven to 350ºF - lightly spray a sheet of aluminum foil with olive oil spray.
Lay the fish (individual serving) on the center of the foil and sprinkle liberally with white vinegar.
Season as you prefer - I do it sometimes with lemon pepper & garlic, sometimes with a wonderful Provence blend of sea salt, dill, lavender and pepper -
Bring the two sides of the foil together and fold together so you roll it down to the top of the fish, and then crimp the two ends by rolling the foil up and lightly crushing it.
Put foil packet(s) on cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes.
I place the packet on the plate directly & open just before eating - the fragrant steam is delightful!

{hi} there Everyone!!!
Wow, these fishie ideas sound so great! I'll be off to the supermarket soon as I can!!!
But it will be hard to know which one of your recipe's to try first!!! They all sound so delicious!!!
Sadly now, in the official capacity of Cohen Cop, I'm going to have to be a pain in the you know where :crying:... and please don't let this dampen any spirit and please don't think I'm picking you Mrs Peel because your recipe is FABULOUS, and I really value your input, but duty calls and I still have to advise that "lemon pepper" is not allowed on the 1st Personal Diet Program because it contains goodies that will slow your progress down. But, you can use a little lemon juice from your fruit allowance or even balsamic vinegar if you like and normal BLACK PEPPER IS 100% OKAY TO USE.
Please remember that on Dr Cohen's program, little differences do count... and it's my job to help you to spot any mistakes you may be making, no matter how small they seem.
FYI: During the later stages of your Refeeding Program you can again bring in all those spices that you love. In the meantime it would be great to rather use something that is allowed so that you can get to Refeeding FASTER so PLEASE 4GIVE the correction & :bighug: 2 u!

Oh wow. This thread just made my life so much better! I LOVE fish and never used to eat it because my sisters hate it. But now that we don't eat together, I get to have it all the time! And that's great enough as it is, but it was getting kind of boring eating plain fish. These recipes are AMAZING! Who knew fish could taste so much better with just a little vinegar and lemon juice? You guys know how to make EVERYTHING taste good! (even plain yogurt *shudder*) It's awesome!

Here is a terrific recipe that I absolutely love!
Tuna Melt
Canned Tuna (in water only - drained) - allowance
1 tsp Fat Free Mayo
Onions (allowance)
Tomatoe (allowance)
Cracker (allowance)
Dill (if wanted)
Preparation : Mix together the tuna, mayo, onions, dill and any other spices that you are able to use and want to.
Place cracker allowance on pan, place tomatoes on top of crackers then top with tuna mixture.
Place in broiler until it bubbles and starts to turn a golden brown.
Eat and Enjoy! This is a terrific recipe for a cold day, but, I eat this regularly. You can replace the tuna with shrimp if you want and it tastes just as good.

other than that....just salady stuff, really-
i am trying to keep my foods very basic, like prescribed meds, as if they are too delish, i may go off plan...but, that is just me.

When I made this recipe it was so good, I thought it must be illegal! But as far as I can tell it is an on program option, if anyone else thinks it isn't please tell me because I have it a lot!
So here's what I concocted:
1 portion tilapia (grams for my plan)
1/4 section mango
fresh cilantro weighed with vegetable portion
spray oil
some powdered garlic
So I cut up the mango portion into square chunks and minced the cilantro as well. Then i mixed those together. I sprayed the pan with oil and sprinkled powdered garlic over it. I took 1/2 the mango and cilantro mixture and threw it into the heating pan and let it cook a little and then layed the fish on top of it, I sprinkled a little garlic powder on top of the fish and then put it on top of the mango mixture and then covered the fish with the other half of the mango mixture. I also found that if you want to brown the fish more you can just cook the mango mixture around the fish. I also gave the fish a little squirt of spray oil.
Note: I cook the fish 4 minutes on each side!
I served this with sautateed (who knows how to spell that), baby spinach and another section of mango. It was really good and really easy!

Grilled Halibut with Mango Salsa and Grilled Asparagus
4 portions Halibut
Salt & Pepper to Taste
Cedar Plank for Grilling
Mango Salsa (recipe posted under fruit idea thread)
Grilled Asparagus (recipe posted under veggie thread)
I make this all the time now - I like to use a cedar plank on my gas grill. The particular cedar planks I use are from Costco and need to be soaked for 20 mins prior to use -- so build it into your timeline.
All you do is place the portions of Halibut on the soaked plank and place on the grill over medium heat. Let cook 6-14 minutes or until just tender (the less you open the lid of the grill the more moist and delicious the fish is).
Serve with 1 serving of Mango Salsa on top - and grilled asparagus as a side dish.

Tried this couple of nights ago and it was so good my wife had me make it again last night for the whole family.
Orange roughy filet (allowance)
Crumbled whole wheat crackers (allowance) mixed with garlic powder, onion powder and powered mustard.
Wet the fish and press on the breading mixture
Fry in non-stick pan sprayed with cooking spray on high heat for approximately 4 minutes on each side. Fish will have a nice crispy texture.
Enjoy with a salad or your favorite veggies.

Sounds yummy -- and I'm not a big fish person. :) Remember that onion powder is discouraged as the onion comes out of your veggie allowance and it's difficult to weigh the onion powder, so if there's a way to use real onion or scallions instead that might be a "more accurate" option. :)

Oh Sweet Lord, I found my favorite meal. After 8 days on this diet, I licked my fingers for the first time today.
Take your alotted amount of shrimp (I buy a resealable bag of frozen shrimp already deveined, measure out my alotted amount plus 30 grams to compensate for shells and being frozen- just so I can put the bag away again, run them under hot water for a minute, pull off the shell and drop them on my scale to remeasure and it's always exactly right,) and drop them in a hot wok with pam and some diced garlic (just a smidge). Add salt and (if your me,) LOTS of fresh ground pepper for a kick.
Toss a couple times and then drop in your alotted amount of speghetti squash which you PROBABLY have a ton left over from the last time you cut one up, and just toss a couple of times. Oh my gosh- I swear tastes just like shrimp scampi.
The best part is, I went from standing in front of my fridge wondering what to eat, with nothing defrosted to done in 6 minutes because the shrimp takes 1 minute to defrost and then the rest gets zipped right back up in the freezer, and the speghetti squash was cooked in the microwave last week and I have a HUGE tupperware filled in my fridge for any meal any time!
Hope you guys like it! Tell me if you do!

I weighed out my cooked spaghetti squash into individual servings and put them into ziploc sandwich bags and popped them into the freezer.
Thanks for sharing....

Shrimp Sautee
I invented this dish the other day and it was amazing.
1.Chop tomato, mushrooms and onion, enough for your veggie requirements for the meal. Use mostly mushrooms since they're lighter and you get more veggies that way.
2.Weigh out your shrimp for the meal.
3.make a sauce in a separate small bowl with about the following:
*3 T of white vinegar
*a splash of balsamic vinegar
*salt and pepper to taste
*1/8 t of powdered mustard
*1/4 t of dehydrated chives
Sautee the veggies in a skillet with cooking spray in it on medium until the onions are clear and the mushroom start to get brown edges. if you have to turn the burner up a little higher to get that to happen, go ahead. (note: If you wash the mushrooms too thoroughly they won't brown as easily because they fill with water. so when you're cleaning them try to just brush them clean or put a little water on your finger to wipe any dirt off.) Once the onions are clear and a tiny bit brown throw in the shrimp. Mine were already cooked since that's how they sell them in the stores near me. If yours are raw you should probably boil them first until they turn white and THEN toss them into the fry pan with the veggies. when everything is coated and cooked, add the sauce, mixed it around for a few seconds. Done. Mmmmm.

Today I had one of the best dishes yet! It's a sort of fish and shrimp stew.
Tomato (3/4 allowance)
Onion (1/4 allowance)
Garlic
Mahi Mahi (1/2 allowance)
Shrimp (1/2 allowance)
Sweetner
Touch of Balsamic
Salt and Pepper to taste
Start by chopping the onion into large pieces and sweat them in a pan coated with Pam. When they start to glaze, add the garlic and the tomato. Add a little salt to draw the moisture out of the tomatoes and continue cooking. When to tomatoes have wilted, add a little water and black pepper. Continue to stew the vegetables and add a packet of sweetner and the balsamic. Add a little more water until you get the consistancy of stew. Add the mahi mahi (in chunks) and put the lid on and stew for 5 minutes. Finally, add the shrimp and stew together. Add salt, pepper and seasonings to taste.
GREAT for cold weather!!
So good my husband couldn't stop eating it.

Sasha -
Is a this ok for those not on refeed... is it considered mixing proteins because it is Shrimp and Mahi Mahi... or no because its all in the "fish" category?
Good question, was wondering myself if we can mix proteins in same group.
Does sound delicious!!
Gonna make crab cakes tonight, I'll post if it turns out good.
PhyllisRis

it's ok to mix proteins as long as they're in the same category....fish with fish, beef with beef, chicken with turkey. We just cannot do the surf & turf thing!! smile....
I've been know to add a shrimp or two with a piece of fish to bring the fish piece up to my allowed amount.

YES! Phyllis is 100% right, you may mix protein within a group, but not mix the groups.
So, fish & prawns OR chicken & turkey OR mozzarella & ricotta are all fine.

Hey Mr. Ed!
That sounds wonderful! Thank you for the idea! Do you think it would work as well for canned crab or would it ruin it??
My wife is going to get the Phillips Crab meat from Costco this weekend. It doesnt have anything extra added. Pure Crab meat. Need to find a way to make an approved Old Bay seasoning. It was still good without the Worcestershire sauce, egg, and loads of old bay seasoning.
I'll recap the Football thread here.
Your allotment of:
Crab meat
Crackers
Lt Mayo
1/4 tsp Dry mustard
1/4 tsp Parsley
Salt/Pepper
T water
1PD approved made Seasoning (since Old Bay is not approved)
pan fried and served with a splash of vinegar. MMMMMMMM

Did you ever figure out a good tuna recipe. I am boring, only mayo or just plain.
I forgot about this... for super moist tuna (with or without mayo):
Take your tuna allotment, and add cut up celerey and cucumbers.... or just all cucumbers. Let sit for a while. The water from the cucumbers spreads to the tuna and when you mix it all together, it seems like it has mayo in it.
Sounds gross but is actually yummy.

If you can get a hold of fresh yellow fin Tuna/ahi tuna here is a recipe......
Fish Allowance--yellow fin tuna
2 Saltines
Salt--just a dash
Pepper
Splenda
Lemon
Garlic--just a dash
Olive Oil Spray
Heat pan and add Olive Spray
Put crckers in large ziplock bag and ground into fine powder
Mix in Salt Pepper Splenda and Garlic--Use as much pepper if not more than splenda in bag of crackers
Cut Tuna into chunks--small squares like chucken nuggets.
Squeze lemon over chunks, put chuncks in bag and make sure they are covered with mix.
Put into pan, sear for a few seconds....not too long for only about 10 seconds on each side.......fish should still be rare in center...if you do not like rare sear longer...but I suggest trying rare center as it taste great and is ok to eat rare if fresh.
it will have the sweet taste from the splenda with the pepper after taste...so good!!!
You now have pan seared fresh tuna!!!!

{hi} there Big Pun
I :love4: TUNA and this sounds so yummy! :applause:
Just remember, the lemon needs to come from your fruit allowance. You don’t have to give up a whole fruit for a couple of drops of lemon – you can take ½ a lemon and ½ an orange = 1 fruit.

1 tsp lite mayo
tuna fish (allowance)

finely chop all your extra veg (not the big mushroom) and mix with tuna fish and lite mayo (you can add a little water to help it all stick together)

MSMarilia: Tonight I came upon your recipe. I didn't have any shrimp or fish in the house, so I used chopped steak instead. It was WONDERFUL. I am grocery shopping tomorrow to pick up some shrimp.
Thanks!

I made a good fish dish tonight. I browned (skin side up) tilapia in a little butter flavored Pam, flipped it over (skin side down) and then cut up fresh dill (one blossom and some of the feathery leaves) and put it on top of the fish. Cover the pan and continue cooking until flakey. YUM, it was so good! I also had fresh asparagus cooked in the microwave and added a sprig of fresh dill with that, too! It was a really good dinner!

Hello everyone!
I have come up with a new one for Tuna Fish!!!!! It's like a Tuna Salad and it's soooo yummy and filling!!!!
Stuff you'll need:
your allotment of:
Tuna
Mayo
2 inches of celery
about 10 g of green pepper
cabbage
Apple Cider Vinegar
5-10 g of onion
1. Weigh out your veggies and chop up your onion, celery and green pepper and put into a smaller bowl
2. Put your sliced up cabbage into a bigger bowl
3. Weigh your tuna and put it into your smaller bowl with the chopped veggies
4. Take your daily low fat mayo allotment and put it into a small container that has a tight lid. Then put in a 2:1 (in vinger's favor) vineger into the mayo container. Put on the lid and shake the mixture good until you have and liquid consistency.
5. Take a spoon and put 2-3 spoonful's of the mixture into the tuna and the rest goes into the bowl of cabbage for a 'coleslaw' type of mixture.
6. Mix the tuna together with the chopped veggies and then put it all into the big bowl and mix together.
7. Put the bowl into the fridge to chill for a few minutes while you clean up.
8. Add salt/pepper or spices to your liking and sprinkle your cracker allotment on top.
Then enjoy!!! It's a wonderful!! It's got a 'kick' to it because of the vinegar but it's totally filling and almost hard to eat it all!!!!!!!!
Enjoy!!!!

]Garlic Shrimp w/Pasta(kinda lol)
Not sure if this has already been posted as I haven't read through the entire list, but I just tried this for lunch and it was AMAZING! Was also very quick and truthfully since starting the diet, is the first time I was not only full, but still wished i could have more for simply how good it was lol.
Necessities:
Fresh Cloves of Garlic
Spaghetti Squash (Meal Allotment)
Basil/Oregano/Thyme/Rosemary (obiously if you don't like one of these you can leave it out)
Shrimp with Tails/skin removed (divide your allotment for that meal in 1/2 and you got it, otherwise you can buy the fresh/uncooked with tails/skin still, your call)
*EDIT* Upon speaking to my consultant I was told to weigh the cooked/skin and tails removed shrimp as normal, not to divide so yeah, I've been eating a 1/2 meal for last month, you should verify with your consultant on this portion of the recipe beforehand.
I'm sure most already know how to do spaghetti squash by itself, however for the sake of anyone who might read this and not I'll say how I did it lol.
1. Cut the squash in half and scrape the seeds/junk out of the middle with a spoon, fill a microwave safe bowl up a bit with water, and place the squash cut side down, put in for 10 minutes and walk away to get the other goodies prepared.
2. Dice up as much garlic as you want, I peeled and diced 3 good size pieces off a fresh clove, then sprayed the pan with Pam Butter flavored, and along with the other herbs, put all of this into the pan on medium heat and let the herbs/garlic simmer for a few minutes, then threw in my allotment of shrimp, lowered the heat as it is already cooked (if you're using uncooked shrimp you'll probably want to cook for longer/higher heat though i'm uncertain on that part.)
3. Stir this all together and add a little water, with heat low cover pan and let simmer for a few more minutes while the squash finishes(obviously this is assuming you are making the squash fresh, you could just premake and add cold spaghetti squash to the meal, it will get warmed up and flavored the same i'm sure.)
4. After the Garlic/herbs have simmered for a few minutes, throw your alloted ammount of squash into the pan, mix all together, add Pepper, Salt, a bit more garlic powder(obviously I like garlic and this is very optional lol), add a small ammount of water, mix all together well, cover and allow to simmer for another 3-4 minutes.
5. Remove from heat, pour into bowl, breath a sigh of relief that you're done preparing your food and can now eat it, or at least this was how I felt cause I hadn't eaten in 6.5 hours lol.

Hi all,
I don't think I've seen this on the recipe page but my 'go to' fish meal was "fried calamari". I took my allowance of saltine crackers, crushed it and put it in a bag with some salt, pepper, and minced garlic or garlic powder. Dumped the calamari in and shook to coat. Then fried it using a bit of cooking spray. That with my spaghetti squash made for a great italian meal!

Here's my favorite recipe-to-date for seafood: Take crab meat and shrimp and mince together. Add one teaspoon of mayo and 3 saltine crakers. For veggies, use celery and allotted ontion (I use 10g for half my daily allowance so I can have some onion for dinner). Saute the celery & onions in water with a titch of salt/pepper. Make seafood "cakes" and saute to get warm and lightly browned. Voila!

Shrimp Marinara with "Pasta" 1st Personal Diet style :)
Soooo I've been CRAVING an Italian pasta dish, and after purchasing Spagetti Squash I came up with this brilliant recipe!! (Patting myself on the back as we speak lol) I didn't read through the post, and if someone already put a recipe like this.. I'm sorry if I didn't see it before.
Main Dish Ingredients:
Spagetti Squash (allowance)
Shrimp (allowance)
Marinara Sauce Ingredients:
Tomato (allowance)
basil, oregano, garlic (allowance), white vinegar, water, ground black pepper
*You're going to have to eye the ingredients for the sauce depending on how thick or watery you prefer it to be add more or less of the liquid ingredients to the mix.
**Also keep in mind that you may not have more than 1/2 of a tomato per meal, and you want to make sure to have enough "spagetti" for the dish as well. So again.. use your judgement with all of this.
Bake Spagetti Squash in the oven the night before. Super easy. Poke it all over with holes with a knife or fork. Put in a pan in the oven, and bake for 1 hour at 375. Take out of oven, cut in half, take the seeds out, and take spagetti out with a fork.
Now your ready to go:
Grill shrimp (or however you would like to cook them. I'm a grilled shrimp kinda girl)
Warm up spagetti squash in the microwave (about 30 seconds should do it)
Mix ingredients for marinara sauce in food processor. Heat in a small pan over stove.
Put the shrimp over "spagetti squash", and pour sauce over top.
Garnish with basil or parsley to make it look all pretty - because your worth a beautiful, mouthwatering dish.. even on a diet!!
VIOLA! enjoy :)

I'm going to have to give this a try. This sounds very good. I'm surprised you didn't add mega amounts of garlic. I like to have lots of garlic to my Italian flavored dishes and shrimp with garlic is awesome together. Thanks for sharing this with us.
