Thanks so much, Shasha! I will try this out very soon. My husband will be starting his 1PD this Friday, and I think he will like this garlic "bread", too!

Hi there Mrs Peel
I'm trilled to hear that your hubby will be joining you on the program because: TWO ARE BETTER THAN ONE!!!
The only small little problem can come with the plates... let's say you are making steak and salad for dinner. You've weighed each portion and put the lettuce, tomato and cucumber on the plate and drizzled it with a bit of salad dressing. Now you are waiting for the steak to finish. You quickly do something or the phone rings... you get the steak and by the time you turn around you forget who's plate is who's - are the the one on the left or the one on the right - oh boy!
A very simple little solution that can simplify the matter is to get two different coloured plates ie: a blue one for him and a pink one for you (or something like that) - this way you never need to wonder and can see at a glance who's meal you are preparing.
Happy dieting to the two of you!

Hi, Shasha!
Thanks for the tips - I'm already dialled in to the two different plates idea! And in the pan, when I'm cooking our different portions, mine is always on the left (I'm left-handed) and my husband's is on the right (you guessed it - right-handed).
I will make up a batch of the dressing ASAP - looks great! I also like to add mustard to dressing sometimes, to give it extra zip.

{hi} there Everyone
This thread is specifically devoted to CRACKER OPTIONS and your recipe IDEAS etc on CRACKERS... as well as the following rules about crackers:
HOW MANY CRACKERS AM I ALLOWED ON THE DIET?
The number of crackers allowed on your personal diet page is based on a 5.85 g cracker.
If your cracker weighs less or more than 5.85 g – calculate how many crackers you can eat every day. Example: If you are allowed 5 crackers a days = 5 x 5.85 g = 29.25 grams of crackers a day. 6 crackers = 35.1 grams crackers a day and so on.
WHAT CRACKERS ARE ALLOWED ON THE DIET?
The recommended ingredients are (per 100 g): Energy 1720 kJ/411.05 k/cal, Protein 12.80g, Carbohydrates 71.50g. Total Fat 7.90g.
Following are a few samples of crackers used by our customers worldwide:
Disclaimer: The above products are just samples of crackers that are used by our customers worldwide. We have not tested these products and cannot be held responsible for the quality of these products or their effect on your health. We are not affiliated with any of the manufacturers of the above products. The details of the above products were take from various publications. We are not responsible for the accuracy of these details nor we take any responsibility to follow up possible changes of these details.
In addition to the above, you may use any plain crackers such as Matzo or plain rice cakes.
Crackers should not be flavoured nor should they contain any seeds.
Always remember that you can have a maximum of 2 cracker portions at any time - so the maximum is 11.7 grams at a time. Crackers should be spread out throughout the day.
Crackers are optional and if you like you may leave some or all of them out. If you are hungry you should eat all your crackers.

There's a link in your Personal Diet Book to this page for more cracker info:

I posted a reply earlier about Premium Saltines and Ry-Vita crackers (you can get them at Whole Foods). Maybe Shasha can answer the rice cracker question?

the rice cake was a suprise 4 me, 2, esp. as the cracker-page hasnt shown any of that kind.
only a couple of days ago i was wondering, as i wanted 2 have one, but then realized that rice is forbitten in my diet plan :crying:
so, i also await your reply with loz of hope :praying:!

this is only the end of my second week and i only start 2 experiment, but then again thought that iz soo little food 4 every meal,..... y bother!
well, and the second thought: i have 2 stick with this plan 4 (most likely) a quarter of a year or more, so i will try more than my usual tuna salad, egg omelett, ricotta-fruit-cream or sauted tofu-veggies b4 they start boring me 2 tears.
i also like the constant support and knowledge u give us! thanka u so much!
so, go on being {king} my hero!!

mmmm...crackers
Some of my favorites:
Crackers with Mozz and veggies on the side for lunch
Crackers with apple or other fruit as mentioned above
As for cooking with crackers, I really like to crush them up and use them as breadcrumbs before cooking fish, shellfish, or poultry
Also - I've found the rice crackers are pretty crunchy, if you break them up they can act like croutons in a salad with your veg allotment.

{hi} there Cyberella
I’m glad you like the new recipe thread, it was hard work, but you’ve just made it worth it ~ thank you :flirt: - I will look at moving in more recipe’s in the near future, but today I just had to take a break from the whole copy and paste thing and get back to the good stuff of talking to you all, meeting newbies, seeing progress… Wow, how busy everyone has been while I've been locked up {rofl} in the food section! LOL!
For now, think to look for the favorite recipe’s under your PROTEIN option ie: yogurt, cheese, egg, fish, chicken, meat, tofu, etc. There is a veggie section for salads or veggie ideas etc as well…
Talk to you soon! :bighug:

Wheat Thin's lowfat cracker. Is there any issues with this cracker? I've been eating these and now wonder if these throw me off with my sugar. I weigh very carefully the 11 grams only at a time and spread them out over the day. Please let me know asap!
MrsPeel

Leskiya, you need to stick with the 1PD approved crackers! Here is the problem with your Reduced Fat Wheat Thins:
Ingredients: ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1], RIBOFLAVIN [VITAMIN B2], FOLIC ACID), WHOLE GRAIN WHEAT FLOUR, SOYBEAN OIL, SUGAR, DEFATTED WHEAT GERM, CORNSTARCH, MALT SYRUP (FROM BARLEY AND CORN), HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, SALT, LEAVENING (CALCIUM PHOSPHATE AND/OR BAKING SODA), MONOGLYCERIDES, VEGETABLE COLOR (ANNATTO EXTRACT, TURMERIC OLEORESIN), SOY LECITHIN. CONTAINS: WHEAT, SOY. BHT ADDED TO PACKAGING MATERIAL TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS.
There's a link here somewhere to the "good" cracker list - hope this helps! I'm sorry to hear about your high blood glucose.

wheat thins are very sweet & HFCS is a dangerous thing to eat full stop.

Hi, wrote this recently but not in the cracker section, as I still don't know the answer I thought I would paste it in a more appropriate place.
(Checking out the cracker isle at the local super and picked up a packet of rice cakes, saw they also had corn cakes, lower cal, lower fat, lower protein but slightly higher in the carb compared to the rice. Are they an ok substitute or is any form of corn out? )
Reading one of the past entries I am filled with disappointment, we have a new cracker here on the market which fits well into the plan, except for one thing a scattering of linseed, thankfully have only had them once, ah well up to the top of the pantry with them for now:(

The rice cakes are and I totally love it (and so do my kids)!! I wasn't to thrilled when I ate one plain but I saw the tread about crumbling it up and throwing a little cooking spray on it and heating it. Oh my gosh. I totally love the crunch and it does really taste good. My boys call it popcorn and they will sit down infront of the tv and have a small plate of it. They are 2 and 3 and it is so cute to see them enjoying something so much healthier than chips!

Ok, so if my diet says 6 crackers I actually get 12 saltines a day? Because if that is the case then I actually did not cheat the first 2 days because I was only doing 6 a day.
CohenInAz
02-10-2009, 05:45 PM
as long as you didn't eat more than two cracker servings at a time.
GailStout
02-10-2009, 05:50 PM
I'm confused -- please define "cracker serving" -- aren't we told no more than 6 crackers a day, no more than 2 crackers at a time? Has something changed since I did this in 2007?
CohenInAz
02-10-2009, 05:55 PM
You can have 6 cracker servings a day on my plan.
A Cracker serving is 5.85g
You have have up to 2 cracker servings at a time, so about 11g in crackers at a time.
Depending on your saltine, it works out to 3-4 crackers at time, as two cracker servings or for me 1 Wasa Cracker
You can never have more than 11 grams (which is 2 cracker servings) a time.
So I can have Wasa crackers 3 times a day as a double serving.
Plus I need to keep at least an hour between cracker servings.
GailStout
02-10-2009, 06:07 PM
WOW! This is a major revelation for me. I just realized I've been operating on VERBAL data (from an email from my consultant) rather than actually READING the guide. You're absolutely right that it's 2x5.85 g of cracker...which means that when I did the diet using the crackers I STILL eat, I could have had 12-13 crackers a day instead of the 6 I allowed myself.
Duh.
THANKS!
Just goes to show that one CANNOT assume ANYTHING. If it isn't written in the GUIDE it isn't true.

Cool... I can't believe I remembered the 5.85 from the top of my head.

When I weighed out my crackers I got 2 Premium saltines/cracker serving. Thus I can have 4 saltines at a time...up to 12 saltines/day. THEN I discovered the Premium Saltine MINI's!! I love these things. They taste so much better than the normal saltine, they're crunchier AND I can have 4 minis/normal saltine cracker. It makes my brain think I'm eating sooo many more crackers!! I've even toyed with the idea of putting down a layer of mini's on a cookie sheet, spraying them with butter flavored PAM, sprinkling them with either garlic powder or cinnamon and then baking them in a 350 degree oven for a few minutes!!! Doesn't that sound wonderful??? BUT...I'm sort of afraid to do that cuz they may taste TOO good! I may experiment with them sometime....

Here is my version of pizza that got me through the diet. 3 slices of tomato sprinkled with Italian seasoning, bell pepper, onion and mushroom adding up to vegetable allowance on top of tomato. Add your cheese allowance and put it in the oven until cheese melts and tomato gets hot (sometimes I sauteed the onion, bp, and mushroom in olive oil spray to soften them). Serve on crackers. I always had saltines because for me it was like a cheat. :) This would be my breakfast or lunch.

I couldn't find ryvita nor rye crisp and I went to Walmart, Publix and Target. I did find Wassa rye crisp at Publix. I haven't checked Whole Foods yet. Does anyone know if we are allowed Melba Toast. Someone I know said that they used it, but I don't see anyone refering to it here and wondering if that is slowing me down at all.
As for rice crackers...do they always need to be plain. I found some brown rice crisps that are scrumptious, they reg. black pepper, and sesame. What do you think?

Here's the cracker information I referred to yesterday in a posting.... It is my understanding that these are the only kind of crackers we are allowed (and of course the saltine mini's which are new to the market and basically the same ingredients as the regular saltines).
Phyllis
Do you think Unsalted Tops Saltine's or Multigrain Saltines would be acceptable.
I have them in the house because my son loves Saltines and I was worried about all
the salt- I have been using regualr Saltines I was just curious.
PhyllisRis
03-26-2009, 05:26 PM
I think the unsalted tops should be fine but we're not supposed to have any grains while on the diet....so steer away from the multi-grain saltines. Have you tried the saltine mini's???? They are really good and crunchy. I bet your kids would like them, too.
Phyllis
Thank you once again Phyllis,
I didn't know about steering clear of multi-grain, good to know.
I have to find the mini's - I love the crunch- I'll probably have to hide them from my kids..lol
Have a healthy day

You can keep a box for yourself....write your name on it!! Another idea I've had is spreading them on a cookie shhet, spraying with butter PAM, and sprinkling them with either cinnamon and equal or garlic powder...then baking in a 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes!! Cookies/garlic toast!!! I haven't done this yet but I might try this weekend.

Hello,
I was going through the recipes and I want to change up my breakfast, so I was looking into yogurt- (which I don't really like). I went to the store in search of some new crackers.
I was looking for the mini- saltines Phyllis recommended but they didn't have it, they had the rice crackers but only cheese flavor -- so I got plain, no salt Quacker Oats rice cakes. So my question is.. ( I know I'm dragging this out) how do you figure out what 1 rice cake is worth in regard to my cracker allowance? Any help would w/ this would be great.

04-02-2009, 09:50 PM
You have to weigh the rice cake and make it not larger than your cracker serving size. From Your Customer Guide:
"The number of crackers allowed on your personal diet page is based on a 5.85 g cracker."
Remember, we should never have more than 2 cracker servings (11.70g) at any given time....
Hope that helps!

Cohen Salsa
Dice up and mix together your vegetable allotment of tomato, green pepper, onion, and anything else that sounds appealing to you (celery leaves??). Add some garlic (fresh or powdered), maybe a little chopped up fresh cilantro (if you like that) or basil, parsley, and any other herbs. Let it sit for a little while to meld the flavors.... (If you want a runnier salsa you could grate the onion which releases more liquid.)
You can use mozarella cheese (shredded) along with the salsa on top of those Ka-me plain rice crackers (7 of those crackers equal 2 cracker servings)...I would probably microwave it for a few seconds to melt the cheese. Sounds really good and I may have this for lunch sometime...
Phyllis
Thanks Phyliss,
So if 1 rice cake is 8 grams, that would be alittle less than 2 cracker servings- (3.7g- of crackers not used)
I'm sorry I feel silly, I messed up on eating to many crackers. I was making a nice 9-12 saltine cracker pizza w/ tom & no fat mozz (so good) - I'm just trying to get on the right path.
Thanks for your patience
ps the COhen salsa sounds really good
PhyllisRis
04-03-2009, 05:26 PM
I do believe you did the math correctly. So if one rice cake = 8g then you could have an extra couple of mini-saltines to make up the difference (4 mini-saltines = 1 regular saltine = 5.85g....therefore, 2 mini-saltines would equal half of a saltine = ~ 2.92g)
Phyllis
Phyliss I love the mini saltines, I throw them in my salad and
it adds a nice crunch. Yesterday when I had company over for Easter, I took out my mini's and crunch away- who needs salsa & dip`lol. My Dad was even noshing on them too.
Thanks again,
and enjoy your day.:)

Thank you KMac for the cracker info.
I did the math anyway using my brand of saltines . I worked it and my "6 crackers a day" limit is equal to just over 11 saltines.
That just seems like a lot. I am continually amazed with how much food I can eat while on this diet, and the variety!
I have been eating 3 saltines with lunch and 3 with dinner and I feel pretty good.
I love my crackers! Can't wait to eat them. I found I love having them w/an orange & w/ my stewed apple w/ cinn. & diet coke-- yummy!
Phyliss turned me on to mini saltines, which 1 saltine = 4 mini ones.. They were great in a salad but I had to stop buying them, I was over doing it.
I nice how we all find out groove and make it work.

KMac... I too had to stop buying this particular saltine like cracker that I was over eating. That's why my last pounds have been slow to come off. I finally put my foot down and said to myself, "Self... no more of those crackers until AFTER re-feed!". I know I will see my weight go down even further because I have given them up. LOL!
Does anyone remember how much a plain rice cake is in our
cracker allowance?
I can't lind it on the old messages~ thanks :)

I e-mailed my consultant and they said that we can have 1 rice cake per 2 cracker servings.

1 Rice cake to 2 cracker servings is about right. My plain rice cakes I got weighed in at 9 to 10 grams so I just had one rice cake for the 2 crackers.
Thanks Girls- you are the best. Maybe I'll try the rice cakes again, the saltines are killing me -lol

And they also have Partially Hydrogenated Oil. I DID NOT EAT THEM AFTER ONE BOX AT THE BEGINNING OF DIET BECAUSE I NOTICED THIS. SO BE CAREFUL AND AVOID THESE!!

Can we only have plain rice cakes? What about cinnamon? Oh, I bet they add sugar to those! Dang it!

My consultant said the multigrain saltines are okay to have.
Mommabear---good question on the cinnamon rice cakes...but I bet they would say no because it is an added flavoring. Check the label. If it's only cinnamon and no fructose or other ose words, it might be okay. Ask your consultant and let us know.
Or you could try what I do....I put cinnamon powder on crackers and rice cakes and tastes so yummy...
I didn't know that about the Multigrain, I thought they were a no,no.
I'll have to pick them up, I like them.

I think just being careful there are no seeds in any of the multigrain types and sugar, is the thing.

Here's a recipe I came up with after missing one of my favorites: stuffing.
1 tbsp chopped onion
1 tbsp chopped celery (be sure to subtract the onion and celery from veggie allowance)
1/3 cup water
pepper (to taste) (or any other spices you like and are allowed)
4 saltine crackers
Cook the onion, celery and pepper in the water until veggies are soft. Remove from heat. Crush 4 saltine crackers and stir into the water/onion/celery mixture and let sit for a few minutes.
I roll the stuffing into a turkey breast cutlet and bake for about 25 minutes or until done. You could also use this rolled in a chicken breast.
This does sound tempting. BUT - I thought we could not use Butter flavored PAM. The guide says "cooking spray" or Olive Oil Spray.

Saltine Oyster crackers fit the bill though! I've been noshing on those as my cracker. Same nutrition facts as the regular size squares, and you get ABOUT 16-18 depending on their weight.
I especially have been hooked on my chicken soup and then adding these to the mix! Feels like the real thing.

I just read my saltines and they said they had hfcs, then read my Special K crackers... they have sugar and honey. Then I read the Multigrain Premium crackers and they did not have the hfcs in them. So... I will stick with those and my rycrisp types for now.
I am a carboholic so I know I have to keep a careful eye on my cracker intake. For now, it is like lays potato chips... you can't eat just one.

Hi, cracker specialists!
I'm living in India, so many of the suggested food items are not available here! And all the crackers, which I can get here, are different in their values (much higher in fat ). The only one I found similar in value (even less ! and surely without sugar or any other stuff than salt and yeast) as the suggested ones, is "Finn Crisp" a kind of crispbread. As I saw RyVita on the "cracker-page", which is also a crispbread, I ask the consultant team, whether I can have this as crackers, but also didn't receive any answer. Does someone also has so many difficulties to get the right and suggested foods??? What did you take instead of? And does someone knows "Finn Crisp" and whether I can have it as my crackers???
Would be so nice to receive some advice from the experienced dieters.
Thanks, Karina
