Hi everyone,

I haven't officially started the diet yet...my start day is Friday. I am excited about it but I am a little apprehensive...the meal allowances seem a little small...and I am just getting back into running and i am concerned about not having the energy to keep it up. I'm in training mode for another half marathon. Has anyone had any difficulties with keeping up their physical activity while on the program? Just looking for some guidance.

Thanks,

NewfieNightingale

Hi there Newfie!! Well done on starting (and on being excited about it!)!!!

Don't worry -- "comical food portions" certainly feed your body correctly...the difficulty is in the first week or so (those "flu-like symptoms" that you've read about).

On exercise: when I began the diet, my consultant told me that as long as I kept the SAME level of exercise (as in, I'd been doing it for awhile and would continue at the same pace throughout the diet) I could successfully do the diet. I assume that when one changes one's level of exercise one's hormone levels change and therefore the efficiency and effectiveness of your personal diet plan might change. PLEASE ask your consultant this question!!! I don't know whether or not your training is a gradual increase of exercise ... but if it is, you'll need to be in close contact with your consultant throughout. I know that I kept my own pace (I lost 45 pounds the first month, by the way) -- I did 90 minutes of water aerobics every other day, and walked two miles on the off-days. I've been doing that for about 10 years. (And, by the way, it's a LOT easier without an extra 112 pounds on board!)

GO NEWFIE NIGHTINGALE GO!

Thanks for the feedback Gail. 45 lbs your first month...hopefully that will be me. I really want to get rid of my excess weight. I started following Weight Watchers which has worked quite well for me in the past...while I was waiting for this plan to arrive. My starting weight on March 31 was 237 lbs...I weighed myself the morning and I am down to 228....so I am hoping this plan will kick things up a little more.

I did put the question back to the consultant and I'm waiting for a response. How long have you been at your goal weight? Are you still on the same type of food restrictions? Haven't fully gotten through some of the postings on the re-feeding program and how that works.

Hi again! You're most welcome.

If you do the 1PD as instructed (read your new customer guide, ask questions, read your guide some more, and do what you're supposed to do) - you will succeed. You can't fail as long as you do what you're supposed to do. Dr. Cohen has made this simple -- he looks at your blood work and based on that gives your body exactly the nutrients it needs to shed the fat and get to its correct size! All you have to do is follow the map he's laid out for you!

I'm glad you've asked your consultant...you might want to make sure you have an answer by the time you begin!

Some things you should know as a newbie:

Firstly, (this was hard for me, as I was a "die-hard" Atkins dieter): If you do the 1PD, you CANNOT do ANOTHER diet at the same time. Any "rules", "truths", "good foods", "bad foods" etc. etc. -- all diets have differences, and if you do something OTHER than 1PD while ON 1PD you won't do well.

Secondly, the information in the forum works for the person who posted it, and might NOT work for you -- if anything you read seems contrary to what you're doing, ask your consultant BEFORE you decide to change what you're doing! (Remember, this is the first PERSONAL diet -- because it's personal to each of us! -- what works for me might not for you!).

Thirdly, do NOT think about re-feeding NOW. You should think about re-feeding when you're ready to re-feed. Re-feeding is "a whole other country" from being on the diet, and POST re-feeding is an even more different country. Just know that being on the diet and doing what you're supposed to do ("your food is your medicine, take it as prescribed") will get you to the place where Dr. Cohen and your consultant will give you your re-feeding plan. THAT'S when you should start thinking about the re-feed!

To answer your question, I've been post re-feeding for six months. A lot of the items which I was allowed to eat post re-feeding did NOT work for me, so some experimentation was needed. Yes, you DO have restrictions in WHEN you eat certain foods after you're done with re-feeding. The WHAT you eat isn't so restrictive.

The bottom line? I'm healthier (I'm ALIVE!), I'm happier, and though I still have restrictions on what I eat, I'm healthier and happier so don't care about having restrictions!

You will do GREAT. Just ask questions when you have them, and make sure the answers apply to YOU and YOUR personal diet!
GO NewfieNightingale GO!
:-) Luv, Gail

Hi Gail,

Thanks for the encouragement...I am stopping weight watchers on Friday when I start this plan. I am looking at it as medicine and I have made the commitment to myself to stick with this plan and give it a good honest try. I find a lot of things with weight loss starts with your thinking...if you think you can do it you will.

My train of thinking has shifted a little over the last few months...I am almost finished a book called "The Power of Now" by Eckhert Tolle ( I have A New Earth to read next) and it has really started me on the power of positive thinking band wagon. If I believe it...it will happen. And I believe that I can do this plan and that it will be a success...LOL!

There have been a lot of stressors in my life over the last few months and I have found comfort in food and ended up putting on 15 lbs or so. I am still finalizing a separation after 11 years with my spouse...it was more my idea and he has not taken things very well...to put things nicely. But I came to the realization that I need to put myself and my happiness first.

That is where the book really helped....I'm looking forward to embarking on a new chapter in my life and it all starts with the 30 is going to be great...a journey to the discovering myself again and looking my absolute best in the process...LOL.

Hello NewfieNightingale and welcome on board

As pointed out by Gail, customers are welcome to try and keep the SAME level of exercise they had before starting the program. Since you are going to reduce your food intake when you start the program  you may need to slow down with the level of exercises. This is the reason that the email you received with the payment details, included the following:

Please take into consideration that you may need to reduce your physical activities in order to be successful on the program as your food intake may be smaller than what you have currently.

In addition, you were asked on your registration form to provide a list of your physical activities. If you write "Marathon training", you get a polite reply that this program is not suitable for you while you take marathon training.
:weights2:
Basically, no strenuous sport activities are recommended while you are on a weight loss program. Please do not start the program if you insist starting the marathon training at this time.

Welcome on board !!!

Welcome Krysta and Mary!!!

I used to be very active my whole life - beside running up the hill with my dog, also gym:weights:...
I also thought I would be ok, since I was so fit...but - there is a reason they tell you to cut back on sports...

Gail is right - you have to listen to yourself, what means is right for me, might not be right for you...but I really had rough first week. I was weak weak weak, I needed lots of sleep and my blood pressure was terribly low (but I didnt know I was so tired from that! - if you have low blood pressure itself - coffee might help? Since I've been drinking more coffee, have some more diet coke and use a little more salt, I feel much better!)

I do have one advice - eat your crackers if you're hungry:praying:.
I felt soooo hungry (I'm 22nd day) the entire time, trying to be good and not have crackers...but now I decided to add them and I do feel good:party1:.
You simply have to find your own way that works the best for you.

I went up the hill once and I was sooo weak... last night I went for a walk with my friend and she was shocked how out of shape I was...I asked her to slow down, I was too tired - usually I'm the one that needs to be held back...

But!
I must say - I feel ok. I had some hormonal problems and they are almost gone - I did lose weight and I do recommend to get busy in the first week. You might get hungry, or not - some women here aren't hungry at all. My mistake was - not being busy enough... So all I did was dreamed about food.

Anyway - welcome!!!

thanks for the words of encouragement...I am determined to make it through the next week without deviating from the plan...I am going to take it on a week by week basis as thinking about lasting the 12 weeks right now is a little overwhelming.

I look forward to sharing my success with everyone.

I also start 1pd tomorrow (friday). I am glad you mentioned that you are a runner. I swim a few days per week plus do yoga & pilates. I am concerned about my energy level and have thought about stopping the activities all together at the beginning of the diet (just to see how I feel). However, my workouts seem to be a great stress reliever for me. - I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it all goes.

Good Luck to You!!!

{hi} there Newfie Nightingale & Mary

i just want to wish you both well for starting your new healthier lifestyles tomorrow :bighug: a very warm welcome to both of you!

Remember the first week is the hardest and because some clients can feel hungry I recommend that you avoid the yogurt and the cheese options and rather choose more filling meals such as egg, or fish, or chicken or meat and veggies.

Also taking a second vitamin at lunchtime for the first few days can also help...

{boing} I'm looking forward to seeing your progress...

Remember you build your success ONE DAY AT A TIME!

YOU CAN DO IT TOO!! {cheerleader}

Welcome Newbies! Best of luck on your journeys! You're gonna LOVE the results of this diet, even if you don't always love being on it. I have to say that a majority of the time I am not hungry, I have energy, and I don't mind how restrictive it is. I also have to say that I am already in love with my new body and I still have some weight to go so can't wait until the end. It really is all worth while! Enjoy!

Hi All,

Here goes....my first official day on the program! I am so excited that I decided to embark on this journey. I can already tell it is going to be a lot easier with these forums. They are proving to be a great source of encouragement and information.

That being said...I am having a little trouble figuring out the cracker servings....if someone can explain it to me it would be greatly appreciated. I am also wondering what crackers everyone else is using and how many equates to one cracker serving.

{hi} there Kristy

Following is the link to the crackers page and it was working right now:

http://www.1stpersonaldiet.com/crackers.htm

Saltine Crackers – Nabisco are the most popular in the USA and the best part is that you can have two crackers for every one in your allowance. You may eat 4 Ry Krisp Crackers for every 5 crackers on the diet.

Crackers should always be plain, no seeds or flavorings. You weigh your crackers to see how many make up one portion - a single portion weight must not be more then 5.85 grams.

You must never eat more than 2 x cracker portions at a time, so the maximum amount in weight is : 11.7 grams. Following this you should wait 2 1/2 hours before eating more crackers.

Crackers can be had with your meals or between your meals as snacks.

Crackers are optional and if you like you can eat your full allowance every day or if you prefer you may leave some of them out if you are not hungry.

Wishing you all the best with your diet! {cheerleader}

Hi there Kristy,

I started out eating the Premium Saltines (you can have four squares at once) and then found the Ka Me Rice crackers (they are listed on the link above) and I LOVE them. You can have 7 Ka Me crackers and they taste a little like corn and are salty. You have to get the plain ones. I couldn't find them in the store so ordered them on line and now have a case. Well worth it and my friends and family even like them too so the case will be put to good use. Also - I use the RyKrisp crackers when making the "pizza" (you can find in the recipe threads) as they make a good base for the pizza. I'm not a big fan of Rye or fennel so don't eat them by themselves.

Well here I am on Day 3 and so far so good....I am impressed with the amount of food I am allowed to eat. I have been eating some (but not all) of the crackers and fruit servings. I am using them in between meals if I start to feel a little hungry. I find that the amount of food I am able to eat satisfies me and doesn't leave me completely stuffed (a common practice before) and I have started to slow down and enjoy each bite of food.

I have some really good support from family and friends and I am sure that they will keep me on track...and with the help and support from everyone on here...how can I possibly fail. I have made an agreement with my best friend that I will wait 4 weeks until I check my weight. I will weigh myself on Monday and go 4 weeks from that date because I will not be near a scale at my actual 4 week mark. What does everyone else do with regards to weighing themselves...do you weigh weekly..or do you wait for the 4 week increments.

The only thing that I think I am going to find overly challenging with the program is the time I am travelling on meetings. Usually meals are provided and there is no say in what you have. I'm thinking it will be a lot of tuna consumed that week...LOL...I'm just going to have to do some creative planning and take my scale with me. I am determined to stick with this plan. I've also started keeping a log of everything I eat.

I can't wait to see the results!
Kristy

NewfieNightingale, regarding how often to weigh, I think that is up to the individual and finding what works best for you. I know that Dr. Cohen only wants us to weigh once a month, most likely so we won't get discouraged if we aren't losing as much as we would like. However, I am a member of a weight group that my mom started, and for that group I must weigh weekly. But, even beyond that requirement, I actually weigh daily -- but again, that's what works best for me. I don't get discouraged easily if I don't see the scales go down and I don't freak out if they go up. I just use that information to help me analyze the previous day to see if I made a change that may have affected my weight in a negative way.... maybe I consumed more salt, maybe I didn't drink all my water, maybe something I ate tends to make me retain fluid, maybe its my TOM.... it's just my way of learning what works best for me. This method may not work for you though. Again, you have to decide what works best for you and you alone. Just my two cents. :)

Hello Newfienigtingale! :party1:

Welcome to the forum! Wow third day! At first it goes slow, but it is going a lot faster, well at least I think it does. This is starting my sixth week and I really have NO cravings! I can serve dessert and even fix meals and treats for my family and it is OK! I think the support from your family is the best. It gives you one more readon to stay on track. I wish you the best on this new journey and keep the forum posted on how you are doing!:)

Hi All,

I am so :) with myself. I actually made cookies (chocolate chip and oatmeal) this morning and I did not even lick the little bit of melted chocolate off my hand. That was a true test of my committment to the program. Chocolate was one of my favorite sweet tooth cravings.

So far I have not had any cravings. I made a delicious chicken stir-fry with garlic, chicken, mushrooms, green pepper and tomato for supper (all required measured portions). So far so good. I am really enjoying eating the healtier meals and I can't wait to see the bigger me disappear.
