Hi everyone!,
I will be starting this on the 21st. I am excited and nervous at the same time, only because I dont really cook. My husband was usually the cook when he was here, but now he is deployed. So I am going to have to step up to the plate. I do however cook for my son, but they are very simple and easy things to cook. I have read through a few posts and already notice alot of support on here. I know I will probably bug you all with alot of questions once I start. so please bear with me. I do have hypothyroidism and hormone problems, so I kind of have a double whammy. But I know if I stay on this diet, those problems will lessen and my body will thank me for it. I was wondering if any of you ladies had thyroid problems and did you not lose the weight on the diet because of it? Thanks for letting me join!

Welcome, Kristi!

I don't have thyroid problems but I did have a "sluggish" thyroid prior to starting the 1PD plan. My test results were always in normal range but slightly underactive. I have had no problems on the plan, and have lost 45 pounds in my 1st 12-week session.

As for cooking, I wasn't too big on it either, but I have found easy & tasty meals to prepare while following Dr. Cohen's guidelines. There are so many fantastic recipes on this Forum, and much of the accepted food on the plan is quickly steamed or pan-fried with no muss & no fuss!

Good luck, and we all look forward to hearing your progress!! :)

Hi Kristi and WELCOME!!
this will be great for you! One of my dear friend's mother did this diet and she definitely had a thyroid condition and was on medication for it for years. She had tried every diet and finally did this. She lost over 60 pounds on the program and to date this has been the only program that worked for her. So, there you go! :party1:

As far as the cooking goes, my home runs like yours, too. I have been cooking though since i started this program and I have found some ways to make it easier so that I can make a meal within 20-30 min tops (sometimes sooner). Anyway, we will help you out and you aren't going to be a bother, I assure you. That's what we're here for and we all go through the ups and downs. Let us know when you start and we look forward to hearing about your progress.

Kristi-
Welcome! Let me first tell you...Thank you to you and your husband for what he is doing for this country and for all the sacrifices you and your family are going through. I hope he will not be gone to long. He will be shocked at how good you will look when he gets back.

As for cooking- try the mini hamburgers in the recipe thread. It is a meal I make for me and the kids. Also try the stuffed portabella mushroom. ( I don't even like mushrooms, but love this), The veggie pizza is good and the egg in a bag is an easy and fun way to make breakfast.

There are very knowledge and supportive people in this forum who have get suggestion. Don't hesitate to ask anything! Good Luck.

Kristi - welcome and good luck!

as far as cooking - I am also very lazy when it comes to cooking for myself (I would spend hours cooking for my family and guests). I make fish - just sprinkle it with some allowed seasoning, throw it in the oven (bake or broil) and it's ready within 10 minutes. I make chicken (in a small wok) using one of the recipes on this forum. I follow Shasha's recommendation and add Balsamic Vinegar to the chicken, which adds some sort of "glaze" to the chicken (tasty and pretty...)
Regarding vegetables: I've been going thru quite a lot of Glad's Microwave Steaming Bags. I throw in some asparagus, cauliflower and microwave it for 1-2 minutes - throw away the bag and no dirty dish...
For a lazy person like me - this diet is perfect!!!!

Good luck!!!

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome!:) right now I am trying to get things together and organized before I start on this friday. Like grocery shopping and getting a good scale and a good water bottle. Do any of you have any suggestions as far as a good food scale to get? I know they suggest getting one that weighs in 5 gram quantities or something like that. I am so glad you ladies are here! Thank-You!!!{boing}

Hi Kristi!

Welcome to the boards and to the diet!! I agree with Amylynn - who put it so well by thanking your husband for what he is doing for our country and to your family as well. Must be so hard to have him away, but good for you for taking control of your health and for making this change in your life. The cooking gets easier. I, too, didn't cook much (much of my weight gain from fast food and take-out!) But I am learning that you really can throw together delicious meals in a short time and it is so much more rewarding and delicious than anything you can get from somewhere else! There are a lot of good ideas on these boards already and we'll always provide more if you get stuck. I got my scale at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. They had several to choose from and I picked the "mid-priced" one and love it. The brand is Salter. I think it was $40.00 and they had some that were less expensive and some that were more. Good luck and keep us posted!
