Hey all you fellow Cohenites. I just wanted to get a progress thread started and explain a little about how this is going to work for me -- a little differently than some of you and probably under the disapproving eye of the moderators -- :eyebrow: -- but I have some external influences that are driving how often I measure my progress.

My mom started a diet group at the beginning of February that includes only family members and meets in her home once every two weeks. Everyone in the group is allowed to follow the diet plan that best suits them, but we all abide by the same rules regarding our motivation, how often we weigh, meet, etc. Some of our basic rules are that you must weigh once a week and if you lose you are in the clear, but if you maintain you must pay $3.00 and if you gain you must pay $5.00 -- OUCH!!! Now, there's an incentive. :)

So, anyway, a little explanation there so you gals will understand why my progress reports will actually be made weekly, at least on the weight. However, I will only measure once a month, since my diet group doesn't track those numbers.

I have still not received my new diet, it took the lab 4 days to get my blood test results to Dr. Cohen. :( But, while waiting for my new diet since taking the blood tests this past Monday, I began following my 1PD plan from last year. I had to weigh this morning for my mom's diet group and I was down 5 pounds, hence the new ticker and progress reported on it. My beginning weight is the same I was when I joined my mom's group, so I am going to record that as my official beginning weight, even though I haven't officially begun my new 1PD diet plan, so I can stay in sync between the two.

So, here are my beginning measurements:

I am 5 feet 9 inches
Size 10.5 shoe
43 years of age
upper arm, 15.5 inches
chest, 44 inches
waist, 42 inches
hips, 52 inches
thigh, 23.5 inches
calf, 18 inches

Sorry for the really long post, but I wanted to lay down the ground rules that I will be following in this thread. I'll try to get a before picture posted soon, and I plan on taking a new picture each week to track my progress visually as well.

Reading all of the posts on this forum is soooooooo encouraging and I know with you gals behind me, I am going to do this!!!

See you in the threads!!

Hey, GettinSkinny! You join me and Cyberella as a tall gal - I'm 5'10" and started at 251. My 12 week weigh-in was 208, so I'm pretty happy!! Almost halfway there . . .

I wonder if you had the same experience I did, pre-1PD: I didn't really notice my weight creeping up until it was really ugly, as my tall frame could hold a lot of extra weight and not look too bad. It took seeing photos of myself to shock me into realizing that it had gone too far.

I look forward to reading about your progress!!

Go Skinny Go! I'm jealous... you will have such a great support system with your family diet group. Won't they be surprised when you don't have to pay a dime into the pot. Who gets the money in the end? I bet you will!!!! Then you can take all their money and go buy some new clothes! Good luck.

because with 1PD, I definitely have the advantage over them. :innocent4: I am sooooooooooo ready to not be the one paying into the pot. :) We all set our own weight goal in the beginning (and come to think of it, I think I set mine before I decided to go back on 1PD again and mine is set at only 175). But anyway, I digress. The person who reaches goal and maintains that loss until the end of 2008 gets the pot. If more than one of us reaches and maintains, I guess we will split the pot? Not sure, I need to ask her. That was so far off, I didn't ponder it too long. :) I know the pot is already close to $150.00 and it's just mid-March. The group (there are 13 of us) has gotten off to a slow start, I'm afraid. But I'm still amazed by their dedication. I hope my weight loss will inspire the others. And, if they see my success, maybe they will become Cohenites, huh? :thinking:

Me too!! I'll bet you're going to win the whole pot hands down. That is a very cool thing you and your family are doing. I just know that you are going to be so inspiring to them!! Hope you like being the center of attention because that's where you're headed!

Thanks gals, I appreciate having my own personal cheer team. {cheerleader}
I think that maybe once they see how well this diet works, they will want to learn more about it.

I got my new diet plan today, but there are a couple of problems with it. I have posted a message to my consultant and hope to receive a reply sometime Monday. Basically, my meal 2 had two options for chicken and 2 for fish. And my meal 3 didn't have a fish option at all. I just thought this was all strange. I would expect only one option for each protein at each meal, and wasn't sure why I would not be allowed fish in Meal 3. So, I think they just messed up. I'll let you gals know what they come back with.

GettinSkinny
03-17-2008, 02:56 AM
So, I wrote to my consultant regarding what I thought was an error in my diet, and here's what she said:

The two options of fish and chicken in meal two mean that you can either have a bigger portion of fish/chicken but less vegs, or less fish/chicken with a bigger portion of veg - whatever you feel like choosing. You do not have a fish option in meal 3.

That makes this diet plan very different from the one I had last year, and makes me reallllllllllllly curious about the differences. A change of pace will be nice though, so I'm not complaining.

So, even though I unofficially began my diet this past Monday using last year's diet program, I will officially begin my new diet plan tomorrow. Glad to be joining the ranks of all the others who are already "official". :)

So, I said I would post a picture soon and here it is.... egad, is that really me?!??!? This picture was taken at a weight of 231 pounds, which was what I weighed the day I began dieting, March 10, 2008. I'll start taking pictures on a weekly basis now that I have my new diet program and have set an official start date of March 17, 2008. I want to give myself a visual record of my journey. OKAY, let's get this party started!!!!!!!! :party5:

Mornin' GettinSkinny!

Congrats on getting your official diet. Isn't interesting that it has changed?! I'm so glad you went the official route and started over with 1PD instead of just using your old diet. Well best of luck to you!!! You're going to do very, very well I know it. I forget that you're a grandma and now that I see your picture you don't look like one either!! This'll be fun to see your progress.

Today is weigh day for my Mom's diet group and it also means I just finished up my second week of dieting -- one week on my last year's plan and one week on my new official plan -- and I am down 9.5 pounds!!!!! Whooohooooo!!!! :cloud9: And actually, that's not even two whole weeks, since I started on March 10th and today is only March 21st. How great is that?!?!!?!??! :party1: I was so excited to weigh this morning because I could tell my clothes were already getting looser. Is this the best diet ever or what?!?!?!? :party8:

Well, ladies and gentlemen, I am off to hike in the wilderness for a couple of days. It's so wonderful because I will be hiking in the Sipsey Wilderness of Alabama and NO CELL PHONE SERVICE!!!! It's so peaceful and such a great way to get away from EVERYTHING!!! My son-in-law is going with me. We're leaving this morning and will camp overnight in the woods and return home tomorrow afternoon. This will be my first attempt at carrying everything I need on my back -- my pack must weigh about 50 lbs. or more -- should be interesting. :thinking: I hope you gals have a great couple of days and I'll catch up on all the posts Saturday night. See you in the threads!!!

{congrats} GettinSkinny! Livin' up to your nickname I see. That is wonderful news and I'll bet your family was so impressed too (and a little jealous maybe?) Yes - This diet ROCKS!! :party2: And does, indeed work so well. Good luck and have a blast on your weekend outing. Sounds pretty rigorous so be careful to eat all your crackers and fruit too since you'll be exercising. :weights: Can't wait to hear about your trip when you come back.

I'm off to San Diego for the weekend myself. Taking our boy to Sea World for the first time. I'm also planning most of my meals ahead of time and taking food with me.

BTW - Where is Cyberella??? I miss my friend and I'm sure others are missing her support, questions, and beautiful spirit...:flower:

Awesome that you started over, and that pot..that will be money for new clothes and shoes! I bet because you lost weight before and changed your body makeup for the better that is why your diet changed. Like the positive attitude that you will like the change. March 17th...hum..a lucky day to start! I can't wait to see the pictures weekly! And that ticker has already moved! :) Go Gettin'Skinny!!!

momof4, thanks for the kudos, every little bit of encouragement helps!

Bronwyn, just got back from my two day hike -- definitely one of the most awesome things I have ever done, but I am worn to a frazzle. :hypnotic: We hiked for 6 straight hours into the wilderness yesterday, and we had to ford the Sipsey River to get to our camping spot. It only looked about knee deep, but as we neared the opposite shore, it started getting deeper really fast, and ended up coming up to our waists!! Brrrrrrrrrr :eek: I know the water temperature had to be around 50 degrees or colder. But anyway, our camp was perfect, set in a canyon with bluffs on three sides and two waterfalls, and right smack in the middle, the largest Poplar east of the Mississippi, with a circumference of 25 feet at its base, and to top it all off, a full moon last night -- utter bliss. We built a campfire and I cooked my Cohen-friendly supper.

Today, we hiked out of the wilderness for 6.5 hours. We had to ford the river again, but this time we chose to cross using a beaver dam. But, when we got to the other side, no path. :( So, we ended up having to bushwhack (that means cut through the brush without the benefit of a clear path - if you don't happen to be a hiking fan and know what it means) for about 3 miles of the second half of our venture. Tore me up! But I was loving every minute of it.

But, I am proud to say, that I stuck strictly to my diet the entire trip. I packed all my fruits, crackers, supper, and two lunches and never deviated. I was really proud of myself. :flirt: Looking forward to a relaxing evening with my husband, tired down to the bone, but I loved every minute of the trip and wouldn't change a thing.

Hope you had a great weekend!!!

I promised weekly pictures as a visual history of my progress. In these pictures, I chose to switch to a smaller t-shirt so I could tell more about my weight loss, but I will most likely try to dress in these same clothes each time, so the differences will be more easily compared. So, the left-hand pictures are at 231 pounds with the comparing right-hand pictures at 220.5. Couldn't really tell much difference at this point, except maybe a little in the belly, but I can tell you that I am down a size in my jeans. Whoohoo!!! The after pictures also look like I may have lost a little up top, but I think I just had on a different bra? I don't feel like I've lost any in that area yet, although that would be nice. DD's are no fun!!!

GettinSkinny - You can tell the difference in both front and back!!!! Well Done - Are you sure it's 'only' 10.5 lbs?

GettinSkinny
03-24-2008, 01:20 PM
Awwwwwwwwwwwww, thanks! :flirt: But, yeah, only 10.5 pounds so far. I am fortunate in that I seem to lose weight first in my belly and hips. When I'm heavier, I have these paunches (as I like to call them) on the back of my hips that make by derriere look "square". I absolutely hate those and am so glad they are one of the first things to go. :) Thanks for the kudos. It's so wonderful to have others to share our progress with, isn't it???

Hey GettinSkinny!!!

First of all I am amazed that you were able to complete such an extensive hike into the wilderness and STAY ON THE DIET!!! Way to go!!! I can't believe you didn't faint as any type of physical activity is kicking my butt on this diet! The trip sounded incredible and I know there is nothing like being in the wilderness, although I must admit I've never gone "off-roading" like that. I like to camp in a campground and sleep in a tent... Oh yeah... and my favorite camp grounds are the ones with showers...

Secondly... Wonderful pics and I think the loss is already noticeable everywhere. You face even looks thinner. Thanks for sharing!!

Glad you're home safe and sound and I'll continue to look forward to your progess!

When you are at the end and you have to change your nickname to just "skinny" then your journal will become one of those threads that every newbie and cohenian comes to for inspiration!! Hey ladies (and gentlemen)... I've been kind of quiet on the forum lately, but I've been reading all of your posts, just been too busy to spend alot of time here this past week. Everyone is doing so good and I am soooooo proud of each and every one of you!!! {goodjob}

It's weigh day again, since I must weigh weekly for my diet group. And to bring you up to speed on my diet group, whose name is WOW -- Watching Our Weight -- last week, I came in second place with the most weight loss -- 1st place went to my Aunt who lost only 1/2 pound more than me. But this week, she gained 1.5 lbs. and I lost 4 lbs., so WHOOHOOO!!!!
Go me, go me, go me!!!! {bouncing}
We also get one of those plastic coated, colored paper clips for every pound we lose, and I now have enough to make a bracelet -- can't wait until I have enough to make a necklace, and then a belt -- {boing}

My results can be seen below in my ticker and weekly update.... down 4 lbs. this week. Wish it had been 5, but I am NOT complaining at all!!!! I am thrilled with any weight loss!!! I will add my pictures later today. I have to wait on my child to get home from school so she can take my pictures for me.

Oh, and I also wanted to mention... I can't remember who contributed the recipe for Zucchini Hashbrowns, maybe Shasha, but OMG, it is now my all time favorite thing for breakfast. Breakfast has always been my hardest meal because I just don't like vegetables at breakfast. But, with these hashbrowns, I hardly know the vegetables are there and they are so tasty!!!!! :drool: So, thank you, thank you, thank you for that recipe!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow GettinSkinny! I think you can tell a lot - especially if you compare the 1st pics from the 3rd set! From the front your hips look slimmer and in the side angle you definitely have less "junk in the trunk" and look at your chin/neck!!! I think these pictures are so awesome and I love that you are sharing this with us. I wish I would've done the same thing. GREAT JOB!!! I am also looking forward to seeing you in that colorful belt! Congrats on winning this week's family weigh-in. You must feel so proud and I hope you realize what an inspiration you are for your family and that you are very soon (if you haven't already) going to be a leader figure for them to gather strength from. Hope you're up to being their coach!

A little late in posting my pictures this time -- yesterday was a busy day. But anyway, I was down another 3.5 lbs. this week!!! Wish it had been 5, but again NOT complaining. :) When I did the 1PD last year, I did average around 5 lbs. each week for the first month, and that's what is puzzling to me. That time, I deviated a little here and there, but this time I have been VERY strict about sticking to the diet, and I seem to be losing less each week this time. I just find that odd. But anyway, here are my pics. They came out a little blurry this time, not sure why. I also pulled together the beginning shot and this week's shot. Makes it easier for me to really tell the difference. :party1:

Haven't been very active in posting lately, but I read your threads several times each day and it looks like everyone is doing good and we have lots of new members. Congratulations and happy dieting to everyone!!! See you in the threads.

I'm not sure about my WOW group... my Mom was out of town so we didn't have our regular meeting. We all still weigh and call it in to her though. I think I lost the most for the week. We were out in the yard working and my daughter looked over at me and said, "Wow, Mom, you can really tell you've lost weight now." Hey Bronwyn, I talked to my mom earlier and got some stats on our WOW diet group. Here's the shakedown: there are 12 of us in the group, and as a group, we have lost a total of 107.5 lbs. since we began around the first of February (not including the additional 2 pounds I have lost since we last weighed), and with some of the members joining at later times. Out of the twelve, there are two gals that are ahead of me in weight loss -- my loss to date is 18.5 lbs., the next two closest are 20 and 27 lbs. I shouldn't be too long in catching up with them. On the upside, I lost the most weight for the week out of the entire group. :party1: Since we weigh on Friday and I weigh for 1PD on Monday, I'll start adding our group stats here, for anyone who is keeping up. Thanks for all the kudos and encouragement!!! :bighug:

Good morning, ladies!!!! Just wanted to check in this morning, as this is the end of my first four (official) weeks on the 1PD. From the beginning, this puts me down 22.5 pounds, from a size 20 to a size 16, and a total loss of 11.5 inches. :cloud9: Here are the stats on the inches:

upper arm, 14.5 inches
chest, 42 inches
waist, 39.5 inches
hips, 48 inches (wow, 4 inches!!!!)
thigh, 22 inches
calf, 17.5 inches

Wow, I am so thrilled to be at this point so quickly. In just 8.5 more pounds I will break the 200 lb. sound barrier :flying: -- so you gals be listening for it in the next two to three weeks!!!

I'll come back later today and post my pic for this week. I took a vacation this week and I'm taking advantage of not having to get dressed so early in the day. {shower}

Hey fellow Cohenites!!! I hope everyone is doing good. I took a vacation last week, so wasn't very active on the boards. I have alot of catching up to do with all the posts. Just wanted to check in and post my loss for the week and tell you a little about what is going on with my WOW weight loss group. Today is the end of my sixth week and I had a 2.5 pound loss, which I was pretty proud of, because it is that TOM and I usually gain around 5 pounds during that time, so any loss was especially fantastic for me!!! This brings me to a total loss of 25 pounds!!!! I am 1/3 to my goal and couldn't be happier. :cloud9:

As for my WOW group, I won two prizes at the meeting!!!! One was for the most weight loss for the past month, and the other was for the most lost in the past week (I tied with my aunt). I am now in second place with the most weight lost. I passed my aunt by one pound. She said at the next meeting, in two weeks, she would have me beat, if it meant she had to crawl into the meeting place. :disagree: I told her the fight is on!!! {slapfight} I only have 3 more pounds to lose to be in first place and I intend to be there by the end of next week (if not this week)!!! :weights:

I'll edit my post later this evening and put up my pictures. Pay special attention to them this week.... I'll be wearing my colored paper clip "necklace"....

Sorry diet buddies, didn't get my pictures posted today, will try to take care of that tomorrow morning. Had too much going on. But I do have some news to report. Heard back from the consultants concerning my 4 week follow-up blood test. They said:

"Please be advised that Dr. Cohen was satisfied with your blood test results and instructed that you continue with your program."

So, looks like I've been doing things right. Good to know. :)

F-I-N-A-L-L-Y...... sorry I'm late with posting my pics, but trying to get out of town tomorrow and things have been crazy around my house. But anyway, here are the pics. It's hard to see my "necklace" against my red shirt. I may have to switch out shirts next week so it can be seen better. In fact, I may switch to shorts and a fitted shirt so it will be easier to see the results each week from now on.

My husband says he has really begun to notice the changes. He's noticed before now, he just says that now you can tell a big difference. I am soooooo psyched about nearing the 200 lb. mark and can't wait to break the "pound" barrier. :)

Hope everyone is having a fantastic week!!!

Hey ladies and gentlemen!!! Just checking in with my week 7 results. Down 2 more pounds, finally breaking the 50 pounds and less barrier for weight left to lose. :) My weight loss has slowed as you can tell from looking at my weekly stats, but so long as it continues to go down, I'm a happy camper!!! This week though, the mirror spoke more words than the scale. I can now tell that my waist/stomach area is taking on an actual shape instead of just a blob of fat. :hypnotic: I'm still out of town, but I'll have my daughter take some pics this evening and get them posted. This week, I am going to switch over to some form fitting clothes to make it easier to see the results from now on. Have some more posts to catch up on... looks like everyone is doing great!!! Keep it up!!!! :weights:

Way to go! To me, I look at it this way... it does not matter that your weight loss slows down a bit, it matters that you just keep going, right?! I have found that by wearing more form fitting clothes that you actually will look slimmer! I never thought that before, but, I truly do now. Keep up the great work and show off those photos!

sorry to hear it is slowing down...i will hate when that happens, but you are seeing so many great changes that the scale is no the be all and end all, is it?

i am 5 5.5 and wear a size 10 shoe....so that is why i need to be 137 lbs!!! i'd love to be taller!

Let me confirm that your progress is right on track - it's normally when you stand still on the scale that you see your body shrinking...

All the time that you follow your eating plan, your body is breaking down the fat...

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments. I couldn't do it without you!!!!!!! :flower:

So, drumroll please....................... here they are. The new pics for this week, in the fitted clothing. :hypnotic: Hoping this will make it easier to see my progress from now on. Although, when my daughter took the pics, having been used to seeing myself in the loose fitting clothes, I looked at her and said, "Ugh, I look fat again." But then laughed uproariously, because I know that I look so much better now than before. Will take some getting used to with the fitted clothing, but will give a better visual aide of my progress on the diet. Oops, just realized that I forgot to don my "necklace" this week. Will try to remember and display it again next week -- plus it will be even longer than before.

I'm so glad that my journey is an inspiration to others. That gives me a VERY strong reason to carry on and see this to the end. I am more determined than ever. As I mentioned previously, I have been out of town since last Thursday, traveling back home today. I have not stepped foot into a restaurant!!! I have cooked every single meal in my hotel room, on a hot plate. And no one has pressured me in any way. It is great that people understand and don't try to influence me.

I'll report more on my WOW group after our next meeting later this week, but a little teaser for now.... my aunt, whom I had passed in total weight loss by one pound, lost 1 pound this past week to my 2. So now she is behind 3 pounds. Let's see her catch up now as I ride through in my blaze of glory!!!! {motorcycle} I am now only a couple of pounds away from being THE BIGGEST LOSER in my WOW group. How cool is that???? Two of the WOW members are VERY interested in my diet now, one of them is my Mom. :party1:

Well, I'm at work and need to get back to it, so I'll see you ladies and germs in the threads!!!!!! Have a great day!!!!

Hey everyone. Been reading the posts and it sure is great to see everyone doing so well and keeping at it. I'm a day late with my picture post, but yesterday was busy, busy, busy. So, I am now down 30 pounds. Yeah!!!!!!!!!! And only 1 more pound from breaking the FAT BARRIER. Be listening for it -- it should happen in the next few days!!! Better run out and get some hazard insurance if you live in close proximity of Alabama. {rofl}

I wanted to share some things with you in this post that happened to me this past week that really raised my spirits and renewed my commitment to the plan. First, on Friday afternoon, I had to go see my eye surgeon for a follow up visit. Unfortunately, the visit resulted in some bad news. I have to have surgery again on my left eye to remove the back of the natural lens that was left in place to aid in the healing process. They will do laser surgery on May 13th to remove that. On the up side, it should improve my vision some more.

But for the highlight of that visit.... :) it was my first trip there since I began the 1PD diet plan. The nurse forgot to leave my chart and my doctor stepped in the door, did a double take, then stepped back out to ask the nurse for my chart. He walked back in and just kept looking at me funny. We finished the exam and then he told me he almost didn't know me with the tan and new hair cut. He said, "How old are you?" (I bet he was wondering why he had done cataract surgery on someone so young :wacky:). I told him I would be 44 in a couple of weeks. He said, "Wow, really???? With that tan and new hair cut, you look at least 15 years younger than that!" He turned to his nurse and said, "Doesn't she???? I swear I didn't know who she was when I walked in here!" Of course, I realize that alot of it had to do with the weight loss and he just knew something was different but wasn't sure what, and credited it to my tan and hair cut. It made my week!!!!

Then, later that evening, I went to my bi-weekly WOW group meeting. I am now officially in the lead!!!! I have lost the most weight of anyone in the group. I was soooooooooooo excited!!! Of course, also added some links to my "necklace" which is still kind of hard to see in my pics. Next week, I may add one additional picture of just my necklace, so you can see it better. Everyone in the group was oohing and ahhing over my new svelte figure. :party1: It is so encouraging when others notice the weight loss!!

So, anyway, sorry for the long post, but I just had to spend some time blowing my own horn -- which is something I usually find hard to do -- but I just couldn't help myself. It's just so amazing!!! So, next week, my progress report will also include my measurements for the second 4-week period. Happy dieting everyone and see you in the threads!!!

Thank you for sharing and the work you have put into this section, it means a lot to someone like me who thinks nothing will ever work. I am too chicken to get someone to take my pictures and probably to computer stupid to post them, but since seeing how inspirational yours is. GettinSkinny

Shasha, you are so cute with your little cheerleader!!

Hey fellow Cohenites.... a little late with my post but at least I actually posted it on Monday. :) This was the end of my second 4-week cycle on the diet, so lots of information to cover this week.

First of all, I wanted to tell everyone what a huge success today was for me. I am now at 197 lbs., but more than the fact that it was a 4 lb. loss for me this week -- WOOHOO -- this now puts me back to exactly where I was last year when I was on the 1PD, prior to all my eye surgeries. And, ironically, tomorrow I have yet another eye surgery scheduled. But, I am NOT letting this one get me down. It IS going to be a piece of cake. And, I WILL NOT let this knock me off my progress train like it did last year. Phew!

Now, since I am at the end of my second month, I need to also post my measurements:

upper arm, 13.5 inches (down 2") -- Nice!!!
chest, 41 inches (down 3") --Wow, I was surprised!!
waist, 38 inches (down 4")
hips, 46.5 inches (down 5.5")
thigh, 21 inches (down 2.5")
calf, 17.5 inches (down .5")

So, I have lost a total of 17.5 inches. Partay!!!!! :party5:
I've just added back some walking, so hopefully, that will help with the inches too. I am leaving for another 2-day hike this coming weekend and I am just as determined as I was on the first 2-day hike to carry all my food and stay strictly on the Cohen course!!

Sorry, but I don't have any statistics on my WOW group since we didn't meet this week, but I'll try to get an update from my Mom. As far as I know, I am still in the lead though! :clapping3:

As I said, I have surgery tomorrow, so don't know if I will be able to post or not, but will try to at least get on long enough to let you all know how the surgery went. All of you are my constant inspiration and I love you all!!! :love4: Keep up the great work you are doing and I'll see you in the threads.

Oh, almost forgot... the last picture is of my necklace... right now it has 29 links, but at the next meeting, I will get to add 5 and how ever many I lose between now and Friday. Well on my way to making myself that belt!!!!

Hi Shasha, thank you for your very kind thoughts. The surgery is outpatient and my plan is to eat lunch right before I leave. They will not use anesthesia (which scares me a little), so I did not have to fast at all (which is good news for the diet)! I will take some fruit for later in case I don't make it back home within 5 hours for dinner. About staying positive... I am a FIRM believer in the power of positive thinking!!! I think that was one reason I got so depressed during my eye surgeries last year... because no matter how positive I tried to stay, things just kept getting worse. Even I can only take so much bending before I break. :sadeyes: But thank you again for your very warm thoughts and prayers. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks Bitten, Hugentobler, and Iisrias for all your encouragement and kind thoughts. You gals are one of my biggest motivators!!! I hope all is going well with you and I wish you much continued success on your diets!!!!

Well, almost time to go, so better get off here. I will try to post this evening to let everyone know how it went. Hugs to all!!!!

Good evening all. Well, I have good news and bad news. First the good news. The surgery went really well and there was no pain (yeah, for once they were right). My eye feels a little scratchy and they said it might ache a little tonight, but by tomorrow should be all better. Now for the bad news. He used his special microscope that he used to do the surgery on my left eye, to examine my right eye, and has decided that I need the surgery in that eye too. :( He said it's up to me when I have it done. If I just want to get it over with, he'll do it whenever I am ready. Otherwise, he'll check it again in three months and decide if it must be done at that time. Ugh!!! I am so ready to get this mess over with. I like my doc and all, but I'm sick of seeing his face!! :disagree:

So, really glad this one is behind me. Good to know there's only one surgery left that they can do (enough already!). And specially glad that it went well. Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers. With you gals behind me, I knew nothing could go wrong. You girls are the best and I mean that!!! {grouphug2}

Hey Hugentobler, Shasha and Momof4 -- thank you girls for your kind thoughts and concerns. Went to bed last night with a nasty headache, but awoke this morning feeling great! No more pain in my eye and no more scratchiness. Can't really tell a difference yet, but I think it takes a couple of days. I count each surgery that is a success a real blessing, because I know that sometimes these surgeries have really bad results. What amazes me most about you is how you just keep on keeping on... :clapping3: hikes and all... buying a two plate stove to cook in your hotel room... operation...

Well done Braveheart, WELL DONE! {goodjob} you've found ways to carry on when you could have given up! But you did not!! :D

I'm wondering how many links you still need on your necklace before it will go round your tummy?

Hi Shasha -- wow, you are on the ball. :) Thanks for the birthday greetings, what a nice surprise first thing this morning. As to the "necklace", looks like I may need around a dozen more paperclips to get it around my waist, and I am already due at least half that many at my next WOW meeting, although they have canceled the meeting because the leader and some others are on vacation. Soooooooo, will have to wait another two weeks, but who knows, by then I might just have enough to make that belt!!!! :P

Mornin' GettinSkinny & Happy Birthday!!!! Too cool. Bummer about the WOW group being canceled again, but you're going to knock them over next time with how much more weight you've lost. I hope the others are able to maintain without the support of your group meetings. To me, that's where other diets fall short in that if you don't meet you might be inclined to cheat. This one leaves no room for that.

Well - Enjoy your day! You are remarkable and inspiring and I hope your loved ones spoil you rotten.

Hi Bronwyn and Katra. Thanks for the birthday greetings. I had a peaceful birthday -- spent the evening with my cousin and her husband. They grilled me a steak and I ate a small piece with a Cohen friendly salad. It was nice to spend the evening away from home, away from all the usual stresses that home life brings. It was a nice break. :)

So headed back home on Friday to pack up and head out for my camping/hiking trip. To look in the back of my SUV, you would have thought a family of 8 was going on this trip. :hypnotic: What can I say? I'm a mom. Had to throw in a few extra things in case some of the others forgot something (and they did - teeheehee).

Packed all my Cohen friendly food, measured out everything on my scale and Ziploc'd it all separate so the cooking would be easier. Got to the camp site and they had the kitchen all set up. It was a nice setup and made things alot more convenient. That first night, I decided to cook me up a hamburger steak w/onions and saute some asparagus. While I was at it, I cooked a second hamburger steak and sauted some yellow squash. Fixed that up in a portable lunch plate and stuck it in my backpack for the hike on Saturday. Turned in around 10:30 that night, and bout froze my bootay plum off!!! It was 44 degrees in my tent, so had to be around 34 outside. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! But I made it through, up at 6:00 the next morning to get ready to go on the hike. Cooked my Cohen breakfast and had that with some splenda coffee - after little sleep the night before, I needed a pick me up.

We headed out around 9:00 a.m. and hiked up to the Walls of Jericho in Scottsboro, Alabama (which was about 7 to 8 miles round trip). A gorgeous place that I highly recommend, but not for the faint of heart. Man, that was one more difficult hike. Up and down hills all the way. Wore me out!!! I can't whine too much though. We had a 70-year-old with us, with three heart stints and who had just gotten stitches out from a surgery, and he had no problem keeping up with us. Hope I can be that spry at 70. :flirt:

So anyway, I digress. We ate our lunch in the canyon itself, at the very top. What a view! Some young whipper snapper from another hiking group came by and said, "You guys look, this lady brought REAL food!!!! You can tell she's experienced! Man, all we brought is peanut butter and jelly sandwiches." I just laughed and told him I needed it for energy. :) There were two ladies on the hike with us and they were VERY interested in my diet. I told them all about it and all about you wonderful people here on the forum. They were amazed at my weight loss in so short a time. We returned to camp around 3:00 p.m. for a nice, quiet evening. Settled into my tent around 9:00 p.m. (told you it wore me out). Woke again around 6:00, cooked my Cohen breakfast and packed up everything and headed back home. Boy do I have some sore muscles!!!!

I can't wait to weigh in the morning and see how I did over the weekend. I stayed 100%!!! And compared to my last hike, this one was much better. The beef definitely sustained me better than the tuna did on my last hike.

Here are some pics of the Walls of Jericho. I'll see you gals and guys tomorrow for the weekly weigh-in.

Hi GettinSkinny!

You are amazing! I cannot believe you are able to stick to plan 100% on that type of a trip and with so much extra physical exertion. You are such an inspiration and a true example of how it is possible to make this plan work in any situation. Thank you for sharing your story and your pictures. It looks like a beautiful place, well worth the effort to get there. So glad to hear you had a nice, peaceful birthday to kick off your weekend away. Can't wait to hear your weigh-in results! I wish everyone had as much determination and faithfullness as you do to make sure you follow your eating plan to the last DOT - that would be super dooper!!

And those photo's are absolutely awesome!!! The kind of pictures that dreams are made of...

Please do tell us what did the scale says... I'm curious to know and must say that sometimes when someone does exercises like this it can lead to some water retention, perhaps even muscle growth - all depending on how your body reacts so, I'm not sure whether to expect a huge loss or maybe even a stand still... but no doubt you will let us know soon... and I'm waiting in expectation to see how our Mountaineer Diet Buddie does...

Hey all, and thanks for all the posts -- it really keeps me going!!! And, Shasha, your post was an especially huge relief to me -- because I only lost 1 pound last week -- my lowest week to date. And I wondered if adding the exercise may have caused it -- it was a big relief after reading your thread to know that it may well have. :) I haven't posted any pics this week because I wasn't at home on Monday or Tuesday. Since I only had a 1 pound loss and I wasn't able to take the pics on Monday, I will probably skip this week and post new pics next week.

Thanks to everyone for your positive comments. I'm really glad to still be so committed to this diet this far into it. Unfortunately, I am one of those individuals who normally has a hard time sticking to something this disciplined. I would not and could not do this without all your support!!! You're simply the best -- all of you!!!

{hi} there GettinSkinny

This standing still on the scale after exercises :weights: or hiking is most certainly not what you or I would expect at all, we typically think more exercises means greater weight loss - yet it happens very regularly that smaller weight loss is experienced after exercises and I had a sneaky suspicion that you may have had this experience.

I believe the stand still on the scale or the experienced slower weight loss after exercising :weights2: is due to building muscle which weighs more than fat, perhaps even combined with some water retention.

I do believe that your inches should drop by quiet a bit in the coming week...
Let's see what happens to your body shape in this coming week... {cheerleader}

Hey everyone. I'm still here!!!! These past 12 days or so have been craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy for me. I have had to travel ALOT during that time and wasn't always able to pack and take my food with me. I know that sounds crazy after I did it for two hiking trips... but the circumstances were just too difficult to plan that far ahead. Finally, I am back home and things look like they will settle down for awhile now. I tried to eat as sensibly as I could with having to eat out alot, but unfortunately I did put back on about 4 pounds. So, back on track 100% today and looking forward to knocking that back off and then some in the coming weeks. I think I have about one week left on my first round so will be re-upping soon for my second round on 1PD. Need to spend a few days catching up on all the posts. Hopefully, by next Monday, I will be back on track with my weekly updates and up to speed on how everyone is doing.

Shasha -- unfortunately, I've not been able to add to my necklace because I missed the last meeting. We have another meeting this coming Friday, so will get up to date on my jewelry as well. Thanks for checking in on me. It means ALOT!!!!!

We MISSED YOU!!! :bighug: WELCOME HOME!!!

What’s really important is that you focus now on being 1000% (yes, I did not make a typing error, I meant one thousand percent) back on track. The reason for this is that your hormones would have gone for a loop and it is going to be hard to get back into balance – similar to when you started the first time… difficult, BUT YOU CAN DO IT!

We don’t want you going on and off and on and off and on and off and on and … you get the picture, ie: going nowhere fast. {noway}

So, you’ve had your trip, been there, done that, got the T-Shirt and NOW IT’S TIME GRAB THE BULL BY THE HORNS AND TO FOCUS ON THE JEWELRY AGAIN!!!

Remember: WE'RE GETTING SKINNY!!! {wave}

Hey everyone, thanks for all the kind thoughts. Just wanted you all to know that I am back on track at full speed and as of Friday morning, I was back to my WOW weight of 193 pounds and hope to be back to my 1PD weight of 191 by Monday. But, if it doesn't happen by then, I will just continue to work on it until it does. I am just as determined as ever to get to my goal. I actually made a conscious decision to go off the diet during those days, because circumstances were just going to make it too difficult to plan my days in advance, take/store my food, cook, keep up the 5-hour between meals schedule, etc. etc. So, I actually don't feel too bad about my decision. It was just what I had to do. I want you all to know that I am just as dedicated as before, and you will never know how very much I appreciate all your kind words of support and encouragement. You gals are the main reason I can stay so dedicated!!! You all ROCK!!!!!!

Will check back in with you on Monday and let you know where things stand.

And so... It’s now Monday...

How did your weekend go??? 100% I hope,??? What does the scale say??? Back down again I hope???

Please see today’s Positive Thought – I believe Sir Winston Churchill gives really great advise on what to do with things we may struggle with… KEEP GOING & YOU WILL GET THERE!!!

:surf:Girl: yes, the best way to do your eating plan is to follow it 100%, but if something happens you need to know that one little mistake is not the end... you simply have to focus and get back on track again... so that you don't stay off the bus and delay progress any longer than is absolutely necessary...

Wow, just when you think you are back in the saddle, something comes along and P-O-W, knocks you right back out again. I was going along really good, was back down to 192 on Monday morning. Then that evening, got a call from my best friend (all the way back to grade school) and one of her brothers had passed away -- only 48 years old -- massive heart attack. Now, while I did grow up with him and have always thought of him as a brother, we hadn't seen each other in years. So, you'd think that wouldn't have been so devastating.... but the thing is, I lost two of my brothers to a gas well explosion 13 years ago, and it was like living through their deaths all over again. I could literally feel the pain of that loss just as vividly again as if it were yesterday. My heart just ached for my friend's family and what they were going through. But anyway, I was off diet for a few days again. Wasn't really in a position to eat on the diet, but I tried to eat healthy and small portions. So, got back on the diet yesterday and going full speed again. So, will check back in with everyone next Monday and let you know how things are going. I haven't gotten on the scale since last Monday because I didn't want to be discouraged. I also have blood work this week, which I know will show the deviations. :( I will weigh again Friday morning for my WOW group and then will let everyone know my status on Monday for my Cohen group. I'll also try to catch up on everyone's posts to see how you are doing.

I’m glad to hear that you sound like your old self again and that you’re back on plan – about those blood tests, yes, the deviations will show, so please write to your consultant and she will probably ask you to go back on diet 100% again for two weeks PRIOR to going for your blood test. That way Dr Cohen can see if you are making mistakes that you don’t know about – not confirm mistakes that you have made…

Hey again, my wonderful diet buddies. It's late but I finally found about five minutes to sit at my computer and post my results. For those who have been following my scarce thread of late, you already know that I fell off the wagon, the first time by my own choice, the second time not by choice. I have been back on plan for several days now, 100%. I stepped on the scale this morning for the first time in over two weeks and was delighted to see that I am down to 190.5 lbs. When I fell off the wagon the first time, I was at 191 lbs., so I've lost some time that I probably won't make up, but it's wonderful to be back on track and back in the game. Below are my week 15 progress pictures. (Not sure why they are so blurry, will try to work on that). I haven't taken any measurements but plan on doing that again at the end of week 16, next week. I will also go for my bloodwork next week. The consultants asked that I wait until I was back on plan 100% for at least 10 days before any bloodwork. Hope everyone is doing well and hopefully, I can begin keeping up with all the threads and talking with everyone again. Goodnight ladies.

Believe it or not, I am traveling yet again... suddenly and unexpectedly again!!!! BUT, I brought my food and my hot plate to the hotel with me. Okay, ladies, I am checking in with my official week 16 results.... I was sooooooooooooooooooooo excited this morning when I stepped onto the scale. Not because I had a phenomenal weight loss for the week or anything, but because I am now at 186 pounds... a weight I have not seen in over 15 years!!!!!! :party8: I got down to 187 about 6 years ago, but that was the smallest I had been for about 10 years before that. So, I was super duper excited this morning and now more dedicated than ever to reach my goal!!!!! I have now lost a total of 45 pounds!!!! How crazy is that?!?!?!??!

Here are my measurements to date:

upper arm, 14 inches (up .5") -- I've been toning my arms, so this was only mildly surprising.
chest, 40 inches (down 4") --Wow, I was surprised!!
waist, 37 inches (down 5")
hips, 45 inches (down 7")
thigh, 19.5 inches (down 4")
calf, 17 inches (down 1")

For an overall loss of 20.5 inches -- WHOA!!!!!

I will go for what was supposed to be my 12 week bloodwork in a couple of days. The consultants wanted me on plan 100% for 10 days before I had it done, and then I ended up traveling again last week unexpectedly, so will go and get that done in the next day or so.

And I have new pics!!! My usual before and after, but I am also including a picture of my new diet "belt"!!!!! Even my 13-year-old when I showed her my belt was like, "Wow Mom, that's great and you suck!" (she is jealous because she wants to lose a little in her middle). :) My oldest daughter is now calling me a "skinny _itch". And I am loving it all!!!!!

So, now I need your help to come up with my next idea for my diet "belt" goal. I am thinking maybe a necklace connected to a belt.... hmmmmmm. :thinking: If you can think of any other ideas, I would love to hear them!!!

Oh, and I now have a new diet challenge buddy. :) My cousin, who had gastric bypass surgery about 4 years ago, has gained back some of her weight and feeling sad about it. We are now at about the same weight. She wants to reach 170 pounds, so now, we are both racing toward that goal, to help her reach the weight she wants to be. Of course, I have further to go, but this mini-goal that we have set will help me too!!!! {hi} there GettinSkinny

You SEXY THING!!! Just look at you!!! That belt looks sooooo amaizing!!! {goodjob} at being such an inspiration to all of us and to your cousin!

The race is on! It’s amaizing what a little competition and a goal can do to fire one along again!!!

{congrats} on having lost 45 pounds, on getting to a weight that you last saw 15 years ago – before the turn of the century LOL… :party6:

You look super without those 20 inches – now please keep going… we want you to win!!!

For now, I think your belt can dangle a bit… then you can make a belt and a bangle… and … maybe another necklace…

BIG HUG from me – it’s good to have you here!!!

Hey everyone, just checking in for the week. Only down one pound for this week, but I'll take it!!! :) I went for my bloodwork last Friday morning and got the results this morning. Forwarded them on to the consultants and hope to hear back this week. I asked the lab to also run my cholesterol numbers because I haven't had it checked in awhile and heart disease/heart attacks run in my family. Those numbers all came back great, including my ratios, but alas, my LDL is 122 :shocked: -- HIGH -- and they recommended an assessment of my risk factors. I know my risk factors and so tomorrow I will begin working on getting that number down. Since I am already on this incredibly healthy diet, the only two things I can do further to help, without the aid of cholesterol lowering medicines, is to lay off the red meat (which I mostly eat on this diet) and eat more chicken and fish. Plus, I need aerobic exercise, but for now, I am adding back in some yoga because aerobic exercise increases my hunger. That's about the best I can do until I am done with the diet, then I can get more serious with the exercise. I'll check in again and let you know what they say about my bloodwork. See you in the threads!!!

Well, I've now made it through a couple of days with NO RED MEAT. :hypnotic: I am such a huge red meat eater. This is a new experience for me. So far, so good though. I ate tuna salad for lunch and then chicken with vegetables for supper. I will have to get more creative though or I will get bored with it. Maybe I will have some tilapia today. I do plan to still eat some red meat, but only a couple times a week. I know you gals are pulling for me and I really appreciate it!!!

I haven't heard back from Dr. Cohen on my blood test results. Hopefully, I will hear something today.

While I'm here, I wanted to share some pics of my granddaughter, who has a birthday coming up on August 1st, since I had previously shared some of my little man. :) Emma will be 3 and she is our little drama queen, for sure! Here she is and here's a pic of the two of them together.... awwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

Thanks Pumbza, it means a lot to have my friends on this forum pulling for me. Yes, my grandchildren are my world, they are so wonderful, and funny too. And yes, I know all about the cholesterol meds and want to stay away from them. Both my mom and husband take them and tell me all the time how bad they make them feel. :( The change to chicken/fish should help, I hope, and at the end of my program, I will add back in some cardio. I just don't have the energy for it right now. Good luck to you as well. I hope you can get off those meds once you are done with the diet.

Hi there GettinSkinny & Pumbza-Lite

Ms Skinny: I told you before, there is {noway} I’m ever believing you’re a Grandma!!! and to be really honest, the first thought that comes to mind is:

I wonder which modeling agent she stole those princess pictures from? :flirt:

Emma is too gorgeous for words!!!
I think she looks like a little Princess and that butter would never melt in her mouth…
Clearly her parents are going to have to get a shot-gun, a big dog and a castle to lock her up in!!! :elmer:

The bottom pic is just too cute for words – what a treasure!!! :applause:

You want to enjoy as much time with them as you can… so it’s really important that you are as healthy as you can be – every little sacrifice you make is nothing compared to spending time with loved ones!!!

Nobody on their death bed ever said… oh, just bring me another burger… or just another candy bar or cookie… they all wish the could spend more time with loved ones…

That put’s it all into perspective hey!! You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do!!
Besides: THESE KIDS ARE WATCHING YOUR EXAMPLE!!!

I am so proud of you for taking control of your health so that you will be around for a long, long time to enjoy them and influence them while they are growing up. Hey Bronwyn, thank you so much... you are always the sweetest person!

And, Shasha, dear Shasha, you always make me laugh out loud. :)

I have been trying to take better care of myself these last few years because of my family history. And was a big reason why I wanted to lose this weight and get healthier. So I could enjoy playing with my grandkids and spending time with my kids. I actually still have a 13-year-old at home, so need to be there for her as well. Actually, I was a little surprised by my cholesterol numbers after having been on this diet for a few months now. Overall the numbers were good and I am grateful for that, but I was a little surprised by the high LDL number. I am anxious to get my response back from Dr. Cohen. I don't know if he will comment on the high LDL but being that he was once a cardiologist, I was sort of hoping he would weigh in with his thoughts on the matter. :)

And, actually, Shasha, I am a grandmother three times. I guess since I have shared pictures of the other two, I shouldn't leave out dear little Mia, the youngest one. She just turned one in June and she's the biggest mess of all. ;) Here's her pics:

Hi Gettinskinny and Shasha,
Just to echo what shasha has said its good for the kids to see your example I do believe and I stand under correction that a lot of obesety has to to do with how children dealt with food when they were small!!My parents were taught that kids must be feed they must get food when they want and as much as they want and as a result I just ate uncontrollably and as a young child I was as I would say it Pleasantly plump!!Ha Ha!My Mom even regrets this but I don't blame anybody it was just the mind set at the times and it can cause some problems and parents who show kids the real way to eat will do there kids a real service later in there lifes with proper nutrition!!!Lucky all my children dislike FAT and go to gymm regularly and they like a healthy life style and I have been a good "BAD" example for them so they are constantly aware of the dangers of overeating!!!Ditto SHASHA the bottom picture is really really CUTE you should enter it into a magazine or something its just so CUTE for words no wonder you are so CHUFFED beautiful kids from a BEATIFUL GRANDMA!!Ha Ha!:innocent4:You see not only do you lose weight hear you get tons of encouragement and huge amounts of flattery all for FREE and what in life is FREE!!!Ha Ha!Have a GREAT DAY and I will be thinking of these cute pictures of your wonderful GRANDCHILDREN all day today!!!:innocent3:

Hey GettinSkinny

Your grandbabies are adorable, you must be so proud. Its amazing how seeing such cute, smiling and happy little ones can make you feel so good. Keep us posted on the cholesterol #'s. Im very curious about that. Im moving into the end of week 4 and was given a glucose monitor by the Dr to check myself (not diabetic but have concerns about prediabetes and preventing the onset of the real deal). My numbers in the morning are in the normal range (80's) but fluctuate up into the 90's (????) some mornings, which I dont get, but anyway Im looking to get them back into the 70 range, which is what they were pre-massive weight gain. Keep up the good work and loved seeing your progress pictures. Very motivational.

Well, I am at the 19 week mark and so it's time for me to check in with my progress report. As of today, I am at 183.5 pounds, for a total loss of 47.5 pounds. I am quite pleased. :party1: The loss is a lot slower now of course, but so long as I am losing, I am happy!!!!! I still have not heard back from Dr. Cohen on my last blood test results and it's been a week today, so hopefully will hear something today. I spent the last few days reviewing my diet guide again and doing the "check list" that I know some of you have received from Dr. Cohen in the past. I have never received one but I just wanted to refresh my mind on things and make sure I am doing everything 100%. Plus, if I do receive one from my last bloodwork, I'll be ahead of the game.

An update on the race I am in with my cousin on losing weight... as of today, I am one pound ahead of her, but she forgot to weigh, so she is calling in her weight tomorrow morning. Will let you all know if I am still in the lead. :)

As to my WOW group, they seem to be slowly coming back together and I hope they will resume our meetings soon. I miss my WOW diet buddies.

Here are my pics... not much change from the last time, but wanted to go ahead and post them with my progress report.

I have included an extra picture. It is a picture of my "other" diet support group. :innocent4: I hope you guys won't be too jealous that I am "cheating" on you with this other support group. Some of you diet veterans may recognize the members of my other support group. These little fellows are rewarded at every 10 lb. loss by the NutriSystem folks. I tried their system for about four months but didn't have much luck with them. I lost 20 lbs. in the first two months, then nothing for the last two months. But, these bears are only available through NutriSystem and are not for sale. But you will notice that I have up through the 40 lb. loss bear. What I do is purchase these off of Ebay for a minimal price usually, just in case any of you are interested in cheating on your Cohen support group as well. :)

Happy dieting everyone and see you in the threads!!!

Well, I finally got my blood test results back from Dr. Cohen, and I was given the check list. :( I thought I was being really careful during the 10 days prior to my bloodwork, but I must have messed up somewhere. Since I had already reviewed my diet guide, I am already following the "check list", so all is good!!

Finally also heard from my cousin this morning, and she is up a half pound to 185, so I am now winning the contest for the white waters rapid weekend!!! :surf:

Morning' GettinSkinny, Well I got that check list after each and every blood test. Like you, I reviewed the list and just tried my best to make sure I was doing everything 100%. Can Dr. Cohen really tell that I had extra crackers one night last week? Maybe so. Congrats on being ahead of your cousin on the weight-loss challenge!! I just know you are going to win!!

Pumbza, after Dr. Cohen reviews your blood test your consultants will email you to tell you what he thought. It seems as though almost everyone gets the dreaded checklist which just pin-points things that you should review in order to ensure you are following the program 100%. I had a theory that everyone received the checklist 'cause I'm sure Dr. Cohen realizes how hard it is to be 100% (even from tiny accidents like not eating enough grams from your tuna can, using a spice that had sugar as an ingredient, etc.) but it does seem that perhaps some people have gotten results back that were just 100% positive you are on plan and doing well. GettinSkinny, Is this the first time you got the checklist? I guess if you are very bad and have deviated with cheesecake and pasta you get a "you've been very naughty" email and thankfully I never got one of those. If you do get the checklist try not to let it get you down. A lot of us have felt defensive and frustrated, feeling like we were on plan 100% and not being recognized for our efforts, but again, I think it's just to remind us of all the rules and to be sure we are truly following them all to a tee...

GettinSkinny
07-30-2008, 10:35 AM
Pumbza, I have no idea what he looks at to tell if we have deviated or not. I thought I was following the plan fairly closely, but I guess I must have slipped up somewhere. I just read my diet guide again and I am double checking all my food weights to make sure they are exact, and making sure I get at least 2L of water a day, if not more. I compared my blood results from the last time it was drawn, and really did not see any huge changes.

Here is the checklist they send. Hopefully, you won't get one.

CHECK LIST
===========
Are you following the Eating Plan 100%? ? If you are deviating at all, even if it does not seem that dramatic to you, you will not trigger the growth hormone, and you will not experience the energy boost triggered by the growth hormone. You cannot have more or less than what is allowed on the eating plan.

If not:

Do you have an accurate food scale that clearly indicates 5-gram intervals? On this Eating Plan every gram counts! Be sure to weigh accurately.

Are you weighing all your food raw, and avoiding processed, pre-cooked, battered and crumbed food?

Are you having only the specific protein and vegetables as indicated on your list? Never assume that anything is equivalent in value to replace a food type, as we are working with very specific food (and chemical content).

Are you having your full two litres of water?

Do you ever have more than two Crackers together in one serving? This will register in your body as a starch and show up as a deviation.

Do you ever skip a meal, or have less than your indicated quantity on the
Eating Plan? Skipping a meal or having less than your allowance will register in your body as a deviation, as you will not trigger the growth hormone fully.

Have you been taking any new medication or treatment? Certain medications, such as cough mixtures and throat lozenges, can contain sugar and alcohol, which will interfere with the Eating Plan.

Have you had to attend a function, eat at a restaurant or at friends? Even a once-off deviation can impact on your repeat blood test result.

Are you using herbs and spices? Which ones? Ensure that there is no starch, MSG added.

Are you taking any homeopathic remedies? These are often in an alcohol base- sometimes as high as 30% alcohol.

Are you using any fruit that is not specifically mentioned by name on the eating plan, or dried fruit, or fruit juice, or more than your allowance of fruit? Fruit is not a "safe" cheat, because of sugar level.

Are you using lemon-juice as a flavoring in your drinks or food (over and above your fruit allowance)? It is essential to count lemon as part of your fruit allowance; otherwise your sugar intake will be too high.

Are you using unflavored yogurt? Flavored yogurt, even if it says "Eating Plan" or "no sugar added" is a deviation.

Are you using flavored Tea? Flavored teas such as Berry, Apple and Cinnamon, etc are a deviation.

Are you using flavored gum, or flavored Cracker bread? No flavoring must be added to any of your food.

Can you think of anything you have had while on the Eating Plan, that is not specifically mentioned by name in the eating plan.

{hi} there GettinSkinny & Buddies

{congrats} on having won that white waters rapid weekend!!!
WOW, I can just see you GO!!! Whhooooooopppeeeeeeee!!! :surf:

I believe that the point of the Check List is to identify and eliminate mistakes so that you don’t do them on an ongoing basis…

Bronwyn: Dr Cohen won’t pick up a few crackers too many – he will pick up too much insulin and too little growth hormone in various degrees from what your body SHOULD be doing.

If anything, a Check List should always spur one to try to identify and eliminate mistakes… :weights:

As far as I know, Dr Cohen has 4 categories that blood tests could fit into: OK, borderline ok, borderline deviating and deviating. Only the OK category would mean that you don’t receive a Check List – the other three categories are all making mistakes from small… to serious…

Always do your very best… and, if you are or have been making mistakes, try to do better so that you can finish your diet as fast and as well as you possibly can...

I am super duper excited this morning and just had to jump on the forum and share my exciting news!!!! As of this morning, I have lost 51 pounds!!!!! I am now at 180 lbs., which was my next big goal for myself. Talk about soaring!!!! :plane: My 50 lb. NutriBear has now joined me on my desk (she had been calling my name for days now)!!! :party1: I just cannot believe this!!!!! I haven't seen this weight in YEARS!!!! It just seems unreal to me, like a dream!!! Okay, okay, I'll come down off my cloud now to share some other news. :cloud9:

Shasha, I haven't won the white water rafting trip yet, we are still in competition. But as of today, I am winning by 5 lbs. I just don't think there is any way she can catch me at the rate I am losing. I am soooooooooooooooooo thankful for Dr. Cohen!!!!

Update on my WOW group -- they have re-banded!!!! They are resuming meetings this Friday. But, alas, I will be out of town and will miss the first meeting. But I am really excited that they have decided to restart the group. Can't wait for the next meeting!!!

Have to share my Cohen "Road Warrior" story with you guys. I was driving back from my cousin's house last night (we spent the weekend putting up homemade salsa). I was on the road. It was 8:30 p.m. I was still an hour from home. I knew I was not going to make the 9:00 p.m. cut-off for my third meal of the day. Oh, but wait, (picture light bulb coming on). My cousin had given me some fresh cucumbers out of her garden. And, I had some crackers with me (because I had packed my food, of course, for the weekend). And, I had just stopped at the grocery store and picked up some FF cream cheese. Plus, I had my trusty scale with me too!!! (At this point, I am getting a vision of Pumbza in the parking garage eating his meal off the trunk of his car). I pull off to the side of the road. Whip out all my supplies and start putting together my meal on a paper towel. I was so impressed with myself!!! :P Thanks, Pumbza, as the song goes..... "You're my inspiration."

I will try to add some photos later, to mark my weight loss for this interim goal I had set for myself, and I'll take a new pic of my "other" support group so you guys can get a look at Encouragement Bear, my newest member. Hope everyone has a great day!!!!

I agree, beef is good. I had a buffalo steak the other day. I'm sure in the past, I have eaten way too much beef at once. So that is weird to look at a very small steak, but good! glad you enjoyed yours. How is everything else going?

08-06-2008, 11:26 PM
Hey Rachel, no such thing as a dumb question. When I had my last blood work done, I asked them to include a cholesterol panel. My father died of a massive coronary almost 23 years ago, and my mom now suffers from clogged arteries. So with that double whammy, I keep a close check on my numbers. My overall numbers came back okay, and my good cholesterol (HDL) is excellent. But, my bad cholesterol (LDL) was high. It should not be above 100 and mine was 122. The heart association has said that even having just the LDL number high is not good. So, in evaluating my diet, I was eating beef like twice a day, almost every day. So, I decided to make a switch and only eat it on rare occasions. Hence, my salivating earlier. :flirt:

Hey Mei Mei, yeah, I am definitely a "meat and potatoes" woman. So, now I can't have my meat or my potatoes. Gotta get that LDL down. Otherwise, everything else is going well. Staying on track, watching the numbers go down. Had a bit of a scare yesterday morning. Don't know how much of my thread you have read, but in the early days I talked about the eye surgeries I was having to have. Well, yesterday morning, got up and felt something cutting my left eye and no matter what I did, could not get any relief. Went to my local eye doctor and he said I had a stitch trying to come out. :hypnotic: I knew my surgeon had left a stitch in, because he said it would help while it was healing. But he failed to warn me it might come out.... so, my local doctor gets on the phone with my surgeon's office, who then asks me on a scale from 1 to 10, how bad was the pain. WELL, HOW BAD DO YOU THINK IT IS????? IT'S IN MY BLOOMING EYE!!!!! That's what I felt like saying, but I was nice about it. So, then took off to the surgeon's office. He takes a look and says, "Ouch, how did that happen??? Was this our surgery?" Yep, sure was. So, he precedes to numb my eye and pulls out the stitch. Yeah, that felt wierd. But, immediate relief. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. So now, antibiotic drops for 5 days. And, after he finished my checkup, he told me I gotta go back for laser surgery on my right eye sometime in next couple of weeks. Will this saga never end????? :innocent3:

Bet you're sorry you asked now, huh? :eyebrow: I do appreciate the concern. It's nice to have the fellow Cohenites here to lean on whether for diet related stuff or not. You guys are the best!!!!

Hi GettinSkinny I SIMPLY AGREE meat is so GOOD nothing like a peace of STEAK on what you call a BARBEQUE and the AROMA is wonderful!!!I also suffer from HIGH CHOLESTROL and HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE!!!I am hoping that by losing weight a LOT of weight maybe I will get of the medication I HOPE ANYWAY!!!OTHERWISE I will have to try EXCERSISE and other things and I am eating a lot of fish now I love Shushi now (Not eating it on this DIET!!) BUT I must ADMIT being from AFRICA and BEING landlocked we have grown up with MEAT MEAT and MOR MEAT and MEAT is really cheap here!!!I must also admit that now on this COHEN DIET I really appreciate the taste of the small pieces of MEAT now before I use to wolf down the meat in huge quantities now I appreciate every mouth FULL and I chew and Chew and I enjoy it so!!!!Ha Ha!!!:innocent4:Hope YOU all have a GREAT DAY!!!:innocent3:

Hopped on the scale this morning because I needed to report my 20 week progress to the consultants. I am now at 178.5 pounds for a total loss of 52.5 lbs.!!!! Also went ahead and took my measurements since it had been a month. Here are my stats:

upper arm, 13 inches (down 2.5") -- Those kitchen countertop push-ups are working!!! :weights:
chest, 39 inches (down 5") -- I don't see how!!! Still wear same cup size!!! :eyebrow:
waist, 36.5 inches (down 5.5")
hips, 43.5 inches (down 8.5") -- ZOWEEEE!!! :flirt:
thigh, 19 inches (down 4.5")
calf, 17 inches (down 1") -- wish I could lose more here

For an overall loss of 27 inches -- WHOA!!!!! :applause:

I am very pleased with my results. However, I was hoping to be done in 24 weeks, but I know that is not possible at this point. I would have to lose 22.5 lbs. in the next four weeks and that is not going to happen. Have no one to blame but myself because of the slips for an entire month. I want to do this right, though, so will be signing up at the end of the next 4 weeks for another round so I can lose the rest and get my refeed. I have NO complaints at all!!! I could not have lost this much weight in 5 months on any other plan. This is the THE most amazing diet!!!!

Hope everyone is doing well. See you in the threads!!!

{congrats}

You're doing wonderfully! The fact that you're willing to stick with the program despite any setbacks is great -- you're showing everyone that if they want it bad enough, they CAN do it! Wishing you all the success in the world as you continue onward in your journey to a smaller, thinner, healthier you!

Awesome job GettinSkinny!!!! Any new progress photos to post, I just loved seeing yours. I could feel your eye pain. Ive had lasik surgery and also had very badly scratched corneas years ago, and I have to say the surgery was WAY EASIER AND A LOT LESS PAINFUL than the cornea problem (I can still feel the pain). Keep up the great work, the inches lost is superb too.

{congrats}

Getting skinny, sounds like a bit of a nightmare! I'm so glad you got in right away to have the stitch removed. Man, anything in the eye hurts like crazy! Let us know about upcoming eye surgery, I will be praying for you,

{hi} there GettinSkinny

:comfort: Sorry to ear about the saga with the eye… not nice at all!!!

{goodjob} on having lost 52.5 pounds and 27 inches!!! {band}

Remember, fat comes off your back, under your arms etc too, so you can shrink in your chest but still wear the same cup size…

Please remember to wear your jewelry when you take your photo's!!!

So, Shasha, I must have had a really fat back, huh? ;) Just kidding with ya. I'm not complaining about the 5 inches, but I sure would love to go down at least one cup size. I am hoping it will happen before I am done. I am definitely losing weight in different areas but I also realize that as we age, our fat shifts around and that can make a difference in how we lose. I haven't lost this amount of weight since about 28 years ago, so there were bound to be some differences.

I will try to take some photos tonight ** with jewelry ** and post a visual progress report. Thanks for all the well wishes. I just love you guys and gals!!!

GettinSkinny, I did not lose anything at all in terms of cup size until very recently - but now that I'm 8 lbs. from goal weight, I have definitely lost some fat from the boobage!

Now, be careful what you wish for - some of that fat is responsible for giving the breast its tone and firmness, so I look forward to eating some "good fat" on the refeed :)

Hey everyone -- wow what a week!!!! I ended up with all three of my grandkids for three days, on top of trying to work (I work from home). Then had to go to Memphis to help my daughter and her family move. I survived, crazy as it was, and all of the grandkids are back with their parents now. Phew!!!! But, as a result, I am way behind on reading all of the posts and posting my own updates, pictures, etc. I will try to get caught up with everyone in the next couple of days. I'm anxious to see how everyone is doing!!!! Have a great day!!!

GettinSkinny - Where are you???!!!???

Hey Bronwyn, thanks for checking up on me. I am still here and still on the Cohen plan. In fact, I just re-upped for my third and what should be my final round. My daughter is in the marching band this year and between that and work, I've just been swamped and had to let some things go. So, that's why I haven't been around. She has practice four days and week, then a game every Friday night, plus I joined the band boosters and I have been volunteering left and right for everything because people just don't want to help it seems like and I want to do my share. I don't know if things will settle down enough for me to get active on the board again any time soon, but I will try to post some updates periodically. I hope everything is going well for you. I will try to catch up on your progress when I can. {bighug}

Hey GettinSkinny....glad to hear from you. Good job on your diet....the end is coming soon!
{band}
Also, congrats on joining the Band Boosters! As a former 2 year president of our schools' Band Boosters I know how important it is to the band directors to have parents involved! The teachers cannot possibly handle all the things needed to have a successful band program and that's where the Boosters come in. It's also good for your children to see you give back to your community.....then someday they'll give back, too. Community Service is very important, I think.
I truly enjoyed my 12+ years that I was involved with Band Boosters! I also chaperoned 7 band camps, 2 trips to Disney World, 1 trip to Disneyland, and a trip to Chicago with band kids. Band kids are the best!! (of course it helps that I also continue to play in band...the Dexter Community Band! I am a founding member of the Community Band. In 2001 we toured Europe and performed in Croatia where many of the people had never seen an American, let alone hear American band music! It was a wonderful experience!!! Kids learn sooooo many more skills other than music! It's a great thing! :applause:

Nice to see there are other band parents out there. I am a former Vice-President of Band Boosters, and still a member. My last daughter is a Senior, so I am training my replacement for future seasons. I stay involved year round with this group. My kids are involved in Winter Guard, the colorguard inside on a basketball floor, for the winter season. I have 12 kids in this group, so I know them well, their parents, and we all have a ball together. Band kids are the best!

Hi There,

We haven't heard from you in a while. I know you are really busy but I'm just checking in to see how it's going. Are you cruising towards refeeding? How's the band stuff going? I miss your fun pictures and hearing about your beautiful family. Catch us up. Send you lots of Cohens love and hugs.
