Did you see the piece on Good Morning America, yesterday (Friday) morning about Kate Moss, the model, that claimed that her motto was "Nothing tastes as good as Thin feels" and that she is getting hell for it from the press? This is because the eating disorder websites are using this same phrase to promote anorexia, etc. Funny.. and I thought it was a phrase our Phyllis (former 1PDer) came up with. I use that phrase to help me get through many situations of keeping away from bad food choices. It's too bad that Kate is catching some heat for making a simple statement that helps her get through. She can not help that others may misuse it. It's terrible to be in the limelight and to have to weigh everything you say as to whether it will be misunderstood or taken and used in a negative way. It's all a matter of personal perception. What do you think?

I read a little bit about it. I tell myself that whenever I want to eat something I shouldn't. It doesn't relate to all food in my mind, just "bad" food. The first time I heard it was at Weight Watchers.

I said that to myself A LOT today. Hee hee. I "do feel" much, much better! I think its up to each individual person.

I have heard that before and the phrase does not sound dangerous to me. If I said that, being overweight, everyone would smile and agree.
It is probably because she is "anorexic" thin and a lot of anorexic sites look up to her that it just didn't sound right...

Like if a big girl said something like "I don't watch what I eat", it would probably be brought into the limelight as a dangerous statement...yada yada, but when thin people say that we just roll our eyes.

Don't we all like to believe that once skinny, we can just drop that phrase forever? lol

This is what I say to myself:

"NOTHING FEELS AS GOOD AS BEING FIT FEELS"

The word thin DOES have neg. connotations, whereas the word fit relates to overall health, not just looks. ;)

Ms. Crackerhead... Thank you! That resonates with me. I totally agree that the word "thin" has negative tones to it whereas "being fit" does not. I want to strive to be fit more than just being thin.

BRILLIANT!! My new mantra! I'veb been too concerned with only "looking" good. There are many ways a woman can look good but at a huge cost to her health!! No more!

NOTHING FEELS AS GOOD AS BEING FIT FEELS!!

Enjoy!

I think a lot of people got angry over this because Kate Moss represents a body type that is very hard to achieve for most people without being dangerously underweight or starving themselves. The fashion industry is starting to scrutinize those who use dangerously underweight models and is trying to shed the "anorexic models only" stigma, and a lot of houses are starting to use models that aren't the Kate Moss body type, even going so far as to use size 10 and 12 models (obese in the fashion world). Just recently Ralph Lauren came under scrutiny for photo shopping a size 4 model to look anorexic in his print ads, then fired the size 4 model for being "too fat". When Kate Moss used the motto that many anorexic sympathizing communities use (to say it's okay to starve yourself) just so you can wear certain clothes, she really is going against a healthy ideal. Just as you can overeat you CAN undereat and you can be underweight.
