Hi everyone,
I am writing to you from Toronto, Canada.

Well... have already purchased my diet scale and I am looking forward to my very first day on the diet...TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY!

I was reading the guide last night and I have a question re: nutritional supplements. Dr Cohen mentions that "a good supplement" is very important, but I would like to know what brands have been proven not to interfere with this very specific diet?!

I am presently on GREENS (i.e. a 100% organic and wild-crafted whole food vitamins, minerals & probiotic supplement) - no synthetic vitamins, no chemicals and no preservatives.
Anyone taking any whole food supplements?

Any feed-back is much appreciated :praying:

Cristina

Hi C! Glad to see another Canadian here (I'm in Brantford). I don't take the whole "Greens" supplement, but I do take the once a day women's with a chromium supplement and that keeps me on track.

hope this helps.
Leanne.

hi, cristina!
the wrote 2 me that "centrum" meez their requiremenz, eventhough i think centrum is trash- yours sound much better!
make sure u write your consultanz whaz in your tablez and ask if they approve!
i had taken "source of life" as they gave me green lite on them, but as i asked again, mailing them the xact ingredienz they told me 2 stop!
now i am allowed 2 take "pure" (encapsulation 365 aio-formular), they have a high bio-availability and the trace-elemenz r chelated, so the body can also use it and not store it somewhere cause the molecules r 2 big 2 process (like in loz of other producz)!

what u have 2 make sure is that they contain no sugar, fruit-xtracz or soy-milk-lactose-oils-wheat and less than 5mg of vit b6... easy, hum?!

all the best 4 your start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

{hi} there ChristinaL

A very WARM WELCOME to you :bighug:

The rest of your life begins today {cheerleader}

Remember that the first few days may be difficult, but please hang in there. I recommend that you avoid the cheese and yogurt meals for now as these are the least filling meals.

The multi-vitamins you have seem to be fine - please remember to check that they do not have more than 5 mg of vitamin B6 in them per day.

As Cyberella said your vitamin should not contain any sugar, fruit flavoring, milk, wheat, preservatives etc.

I wishing you much success and I hope to hear from slimmer healthier you soon! {boing}

Welcome Cristina!!:peace:

Sounds like you've been given some good advice on the vitamins. I also take the One a Day for Women/Weight Control version and I love it. Sounds like you're more into the all natural stuff though which is awesome.

Mostly, just wanted to welcome you and wish you the best of luck on this incredible journey. This diet is awesome and does work!! We're here if you have questions, need to vent, need to brag, etc.

Enjoy!

{hi} there Bronwyn

Just to check, you mention you take the One a Day for Women/Weight Control multi-vitamin - I would just like to be sure that your vitamin does NOT contain any appetite suppressants...

Have a super day further :bighug:

HI Shasha,

You are always looking out for us! My vitamin has Chromium which I believe works as kind of a natural appetite suppressant, no? The other "diet" ingredients listed are green tea, caffeine (only a bit), guarana seed (powder & extract), Cayenne. Is this okay?

{hi} there Bronwyn

I see two problems with your vitamins {oops}

1. Guarana seed (powder & extract),
2. Cayenne

Both the above are not allowed to be used while being on the 1st Personal Diet Program as they will slow your progress down and, :noway: we don't want that happening!!!

Please try to find a multi-vitamin that contains only vitamins and minerals. The Chromium is very {goodjob} and you should try to find a vitamin that contains this.

Oh NO!!! :crying: Thank you Shasha!!! I'm trying to do everything so right so that's terrible that my vitamins are so wrong! {duh} I'll look for a replacement immediately.

Mrs. Peel, if you read this, what do you take? Since we are in the same area I could probably find it easily.

Hi, Bronwyn!

We-e-ll, since I see a nutritionist and that pre-dates my 1PD enrollment, I take a variety of vitamins & minerals that she has had me on for some time. So I don't exactly take a "multivitamin" but I do get the same effect from a variety of supplements. I was fortunate in that the B vitamin supplement I take does not exceed the 1PD recommended limit for B6. I stopped a couple of my regular supplements because of ingredients that were not allowed on the diet (broccoli, for example). So I'm not much help! :(

My Recomendation - LifePak Nano from Pharmanex

[link removed by Admin]

Its Expensive, but its the best Multi-Vitamin / Life suppliment you can buy In My Opinion. And it seems to meet all requirements even BARELY meeting the 5g B6.

The best part is its delivery structure - Apparently its condensed in a way that allows the body to assimilate 90% or so of all the vitamins listed in the Supplement Facts, which is a mile long. Other Multivitamins are arount 10%-25% assimilation rate.

If you can find it, and the moderatiors say its OK, this is the Porche of suppliments, does much more than just your daily dose of Vitamin C.

{hi} there Everyone

Below is an example of what your daily multi-vitamin should contain:

Vitamin A 3000 I.U.
Thiamine HCL 3mg
Riboflavine 3mg
Pyridoxine HCL 3mg
Vitamin B 12 25mcg
Ascorbic Acid 100mg
Vitamin D 200 I.U.
Vitamin E 10 I.U.
Folic Acid 0.4mg
Magnesium 100mg
Zinc 15mg
Ferrous Fumarate 40mg
Iodine 0.1mg
Manganese 0.2mg
Calcium 50mg
Molybdenum 0.01mg
Inositol 5mg
Chromium Polynicotinate 200mcg
Selenium 0.02 mg
Nicotinamide 3mg

From the program's perspective, you may take essential fatty acids such as Evening Primrose Oil and Salmon Oil in capsules and no more than one capsule of oil a day no matter the strength. We suggest that you consult with your doctor regarding every medication that you start taking on a regular basis.

I'm hoping this helps. Taking various vitamin supplements that contain the above will also work ie: you may take separate vitamin C, zinc, chromium etc. That is 100% fine as long as what you are taking does not contain things that you are not allowed on the program ie: roots and fruits and preservatives etc.

I find all of this incredibly interesting because I am always looking for better supplements.

Shasha - here are the ingredients in Lifepak Nano -- do you mind taking a look and giving us a final approval or disapproval on these particular supplements? Also, I had a question about one of the supplements you listed -- Pyridoxine HCL 3mg -- which is Vitamin B6 -- and in your listing it says 3 mg, but the program allows us up to 5 mg. Just thought that was interesting and wondered about the difference.

Thanks!!!!

From the looks of things above, I'm not sure those will be approved. Sounds like incredibly cool vitamins though. I actually went and looked today and it was very hard and frustrating to find a one-a-day that doesn't have to much B-6 or that doesn't contain some additional, root-based ingredient and/or even starch & sugar!!! It shouldn't be this difficult. I wish the consultants could recommend a few brands like they did with the crackers.

{hi} there Gettinskinny, Bronwyn & Everyone

 I have read the ingredients of Lifepak Nano Vitamins and am really not sure about these particular vitamins so I have written to Dr Cohen e and hope to have his feedback shortly...

In the meantime, I have asked Secretary if it would be possible if we could please post a list of suitable vitamins on the Forum...

:innocent3: I think that can be very useful to everyone, so let's see what happens :flirt:

{hi} there Everyone

Sorry the feedback took a little while - you wont' believe me, but I actually lost this post! Which is a great sign because that means that our little forum is growing... {cheerleader}

Anyway, Dr Cohen advises that we cannot recommend a specific brand of multi-vitamin. Dieters should ask their pharmacist for a good multivitamin with Vitamin B6 content being less than 5mg.

When asked about some of the ingredients in the Lifepak Nano Vitamins such as grape seed oil, Citrus Bioflavonoids etc, Dr Cohen advised that these are not vitamins and that Dieters are to please use multivitamins and minerals only. (So no plant extracts etc.)

So, that's all for now folks!
