Hi all,
I just wonder if any of you are experiencing hair loss while on the diet. I am. I am not complaining, I have so much hair that every time I go to the hairdresser I ask her to thin it for me with those special scissors.
I started to notice in the last 8 weeks.
How about you? How about the ones that are in maintenance? Does it stop once you've finished? I definetely don't want it back. I just want to know, if this is another side effect of the diet.
Keep posting...

Hi Dayanira.
I haven't noticed hair loss on the diet, but I did lose about 25% of my hair (felt like 1/2) during the fall semester in 08, due to stress.
The only comfort I can give you is that my hair is growing back, now.
So, if for some reason your body has decided to shed some hair, chances are, in about 3-6 months, it WILL grow back.
On the diet, my hair loss has been normal.

I know in the summer you lose hair. I have thick hair too and every summer I think "Ok, am I going to have any hair for the winter"? LOL.

My hairdresser commented a couple of months ago that she thought my hair was thinning. She (having had gastric bypass surgery) mentioned that if your body isn't getting enough protein it can cause hairloss. She didn't mention it this past week when I was there and I haven't noticed a lot of hair in my hairbrush. I think you should contact your consultant and see what they say. Perhaps you need some extra vitamins?

Loss of hair can also be due to an increase in testosterone levels in your body. My pharmacist recommended Horsetail herb as a supplement to help.
Personally, I only notice my hair feeling drier and not as soft as it used to, but that could be due to the lack of oil in my diet. I took a lot of fish oil capsules before getting on this plan.

Hi!
I heard that while on this type of diet, your body resources are redirected to keeping you alive and less on things like hair and nail health. Because the calories are just above fasting, the hair will not be as healthy. Some people also report skin issues, such as more dryness, but less acne.
I experienced hair loss midway through at around 10-12 weeks in and it did not let up until a little while after refeed. I had big clumps in my hand after rinsing in the shower...much more than normal. It is now better, but now since I am back on the second day of a two week reset, it will be interesting to see what my hair does.

Great responses everybody! Very educative!
We're in winter and my hair keeps falling. I had only experience this kind of loss during my two pregnancies. But as I said before, I'm not worried. I'm just wondering.

{hi} there Dayanira & Diet Buddies
Hair loss can be generic, or caused by stress, emotional or physical trauma, thyroid problems, skin disease or other medical conditions. Taking a supplement like Autrin or Iron and Zinc may help but if the hair loss continues or gets worse, I’d recommend that you talk with your doctor regarding this matter.
I’m not saying you’re not taking enough vitamins… but... says Shasha, who is about to sing her famous old vitamin song, :innocent3: do please remember that vitamins on the diet (and off) play a vital role in a healthy balanced eating plan… our food nutrient levels due to many reasons are just not what they use to be and combine this with the added modern day plague of STRESS, :nerd: we ALL need ALL the help we can get!!
So, bring on those power-packed-oh-so-good-for-you-vitamins!!! {wave}

Thank you Shasha for your response. Recently, I've started to take 2 multi-vitamins mainly because I've been feeling very hungry somedays at around 4pm and a week ago I was dizzy in the mornings. Feeling better now.
Thanks

I began noticing I was losing alot of hair after about week 20. I was starting to worry I was going to be bald pretty soon! My hair dresser said the same thing about hair loss/ weight loss. She said she's seen it alot with people who lose weight quickly. My consultant said pretty much what Sasha said. So, I'd heard from a friend that taking prenatal vitamins gave her great hair and nails. I figured what the heck and started taking them last week. I just started taking 2 a day today. It seems to be doing better. I haven't noticed any horrible hair loss like before.
